How To buy - Abandoned Storage Unit Auctions in the UK

Updated on March 13, 2016

Finding Storage Auctions in the UK

Since reading my article on finding abandoned storage units at auction, many people residing in the UK have asked me about finding storage unit auctions there. I did some research and found that the process can be quite similar to that in the United States.

The concept of storage unit facilites in the UK is a bit newer than here in the United States, and some wording can be different. The changing of the wording can making it difficult for newcommers to the industry to find what they are lookiing for.

This is not by accident. This is to help the industry to control competition because rising competition creates rising prices. Units that sold here in the U.S since storage wars came on T.V have more than trippled in many places. I can assure you however, the show is completely inaccurate. I expect the spike in prices to go down after the show loses ground.

If you are serious about purchasing these units I invite you to read my other hub about how to do it. This doesn't really change from my country to yours. Still the same concept.

Storage Liens, Containers and Lockers

Where and how do you find abandoned storage auctions in the UK? You can use internet searches with different wordings. A good example is storage unit liens, in the UK. Other words you may find useful are storage containers, and lockers.

In the U.S they are generally called units, and for-closed on, or abandoned. However, in my U.K searches I have found that other variations of wording are extremely helpful in locating these auctions.

I also found Yahoo UK to have the most information. Though I did not read through all of it, I can tell you to try using this particular search engine there.

Were To Find The Storage Auction

There are over 1200 storage units throughout the UK. They hold auctions the same as the U.S.

A good way to know when and if the site will be having an auction is to simply call them and ask.

We do the same thing here in the U.S. While many hold theirs on site, there are a few who hold their auctions online.

Look up the local storage units in your area. Call them and ask them when they will be holding their next auction.

From my research I did notice that they can also be listed in your local paper. You can check there, or simply call and ask.

The The Self Storage Association United Kingdom (SSA UK) is a members only site. However, it seems if you area member you will have access to the information. Now, they have sites similar to this in the U.S also. I don't use them because I find the auctions on my own, through the channels I just explained to you.

The site does cover plenty of useful information however.

Also, if you go to wow.com and type in storage auctions uk you will find a whole new wealth of information.

I love the TV show, Storage Wars, so this article was very interesting for me, even if I know I will probably never land in England:( and if I do, it won't be to buy a storage unit, but probably to see the sights. Great hub.
