Black Friday & Cyber Monday Shopping Tips: Most Popular Days to Shop and Save

If you love to shop for bargains you don't want to miss Black Friday or Cyber Monday-two of the most popular shopping days of the year. Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, marks the beginning of the Christmas shopping season and all retail stores put on huge sales and even open the doors early and stay open late so the public can flood into the stores and take advantage of the marked down prices. Being "in the black" is a term used when retailers start to gain profit. This is one reason Black Friday got its name.

But what about Cyber Monday? Cyber Monday is the Monday following Black Friday. It was created by retailers and companies to help persuade people to shop online. So it's the Black Friday for online shoppers. Just like Black Friday, Cyber Monday offers great online sales and promotions. It's quickly gaining popularity and each year more and more people are shopping on Cyber Monday to take advantage of the awesome online sales and deals. In fact, according to the National Retail Federation it has officially replaced Black Friday as the most popular shopping day of the year.

Black Friday Shopping Tips

  • Plan Ahead- Make sure to get the Sunday paper with the sales circulars for Black Friday, also you can go online ahead of time to where scanned Black Friday sales circulars can be found from all of your favorite stores. If you are wanting to go to a specific store, go to their website. Many stores post their sales circulars online for Black Friday.

  • Plan to Start Early- Black Friday sales can start as early as 5am or even earlier. Sometimes the stores have a few hours where selected merchandise such as electronics jewelry and toys are marked SUPER low. You usually have to get there very early to take advantage of these super bargains. Be prepared for possible crowds and pushy shoppers. keep in mind that some stores have limited quantities on sale items. If you have your heart set on something, be sure to get there early!

  • Coupons- Don't forget any coupons you need to get the deals. Also, sometimes you can still use coupons and get additional savings. Make sure to read the fine print. Make sure to check online for any printable coupons that you can use in-store. Any bit of money that you can save helps.

  • Know Store Policies- Some stores will match prices of other stores, even on Black Friday. This may help you not to have to go to as many stores in order to get what you need. Call around ahead of time and see which stores match prices on Black Friday.

  • Shop Online- Just like on Cyber Monday, many stores have great deals online for Black Friday too. Many of them in the past have offered free shipping as well. This can help you save a whole lot of money. Especially if it's large items that normally have high shipping fees. Also, to get even more savings, go to a site like CouponSnapshot to search for available Black Friday coupon codes.

Cyber Monday Shopping Tips

  • Start Early- Online store sales start even more early than regular stores. It's important to shop some stores as early as possible in order to have a good selection. Cyber Monday is the busiest online shopping day of the year.

  • Free Shipping- Make sure and look for free shipping. Many stores offer this on Cyber Monday and it can be a huge savings. You can actually purchase some of the larger items you want but could not purchase before because of high shipping charges. Shopping online on Cyber Monday makes that possible.

  • Compare Prices- Be sure to use a good price comparison websites such as Nextag to make sure you really are getting a good deal. You want to make sure you are really getting a bargain. You deserve to get the best savings you possibly can and not be fooled by bogus sale prices.
