4 College Scholarships For High School Students or Those Who Just Graduated

The following scholarships are for current high school students or those who have just graduated in Spring, 2013. Make sure not to miss the deadlines or you won't be eligible for these scholarships. Good luck!


1) Shut Up And Sweat Athletic Gear Student Athlete Scholarship

Deadline: August 1, 2013

Amount: $2,000


The Shut Up and Sweat scholarship has a funny name, but amount of the award is not funny at all! This scholarship is for students who have just graduated from high school in June, 2013. Students must have had a minimum GPA of 3.0 during all four of their high school years. There is no actual application, but there are a variety of items that need to be packaged together and sent in. Here is what is needed to apply for this scholarship:

1) A sealed official student transcript which covers all four years of the student's high school career to prove they had a 3.0 or higher GPA during the whole time.

2) A list of sports and school involvement ( activities and offices held, etc.). This needs to include and awards that were won during the four years. Also, the student must include the name and contact information of his/her coach or athletic director who can verify this involvement.

3) Any community service that the student had done during his/her high school years with the name and contact information of a person that can confirm this.

4) Any additional information that the committee needs to know that may help in awarding the scholarship such as any work for pay the student did, specific family situation, etc.

5) a one to two page letter from an adult, age 21 or older who is recommending this student for the scholarship. This letter should state why this student is an outstanding choice to be awarded this scholarship. That person's name and contact information should be included in case their are any further questions the committee needs answered.

2) Rosa Parks Civil Liberties Scholarship

Deadline: August 1, 2013

Amount: $1,000

Applicants for this scholarship must write an essay illustrating their commitment to advancing equality in America. A resume showing their commitment must be included. This can be done through a job or volunteer experience or a school committee the student was on. They must also submit with the essay, a short biography statement of 150 words or less.

3) CoachUp Scholarship Program

Deadline: August 16, 2013

Amount: $2,000

This scholarship is available to students who are currently or were before graduation in June, 2013, athletes in high school. A 500 word essay must be included with your application, a letter of reference and a short video. You must choose 1 category in which to enter. The 3 choices of categories are:

Student Athlete

Community Leader

Inspirational Athlete

4) Make Me Laugh Scholarship

Deadline: August 31, 2013

Amount: $1,500

Applicants for this scholarship must be thirteen years old or older, and already enrolled, either for the Fall, of 2013 or entering their sophomore, junior or senior in an accredited college in the Fall of 2013.

This scholarship is not based on any academic merit or financial need but on the applicant's ability to make the scholarship committee laugh! In 250 words or less, the applicant needs to describe an incident in their life that was funny or embarrassing and will make them laugh. The event can be fact or fictional! The essay must be sent online and the online application can be found below. The winner will be notified at the end of October, 2013.

      Very useful information, Karen. I have no idea how students pay for college if they don't win a scholarship of some sort. It's a tough road ahead for many.

      My daughter ( in the picture) just finished her freshmen year at Drexel in Philly, and even though she won a lot of scholarship money, we are still paying a lot. The state schools are the best deals nowadays but they didn't have what she wanted so here we are...paying through the nose! It's definitely tough.
