How to Give a Real Coupon

Here's a great gift idea; coupons are all the rage these days so why not give them as gifts? This year considering the economy is so bad, spending money should be the farthest thing from our minds; spending our time not our money should be the focus of our gift giving. Instead of buying gifts this year give out personalized coupons.

They require your time, creativity and will be the most appreciated gifts received. They are also free. I'm not talking about store coupons that you cut out of magazines or download from the net, I'm talking about creating coupons that are good for a year and involve you giving of yourself as the gift.

Wondering what the heck I'm talking about? Read on ...

What to Give?

We all have a special skill, something we're good at, something we love to do, something unique we contribute to our world, this year I'm suggesting you give your special skill as a gift.

The coupons can come in all shapes and sizes, both in presentation and in content. Be creative in how you "wrap" your gift. It can be fun, fancy, decorated, plain, in an envelope or the biggest box you can find ... the choice is yours so have fun with it.

Be creative in what you give. The gifts will be really special if appropriate coupons are given to the right people. You don't have to have an area of specialization to give coupons either, everyday help is sometimes the biggest help of all. Giving of yourself is very special in itself; it requires your time and that's something most people in our society don't seem to have enough of these days - so if you give of yourself, it certainly adds to the impact of the gift.

Coupon Suggestions

We live in such a fast paced society where so many people are overwhelmed by the lack of time in their world, so I suggest giving coupons that will help lighten the load of people you love (or like!).

Remember if the coupons are good for one year they can be used in all seasons, which opens up more possible ways to help others.

Here's a list of coupon suggestions to help get you thinking of ways to personalize your gift giving this holiday season ... and for any other occasion!

help to take down or put up Christmas or Halloween decorations - immediately it becomes obvious why this is a great idea

dog walking or pet sitting - great for the pet owners in your life

lawn mowing, leaf raking, gutter cleaning, snow shoveling, garden or yard clean up, garden planting, garage clean up - are all excellent gifts for homeowners

computer, laptop, tablet, cell phone, or software program lessons - for those parents and grandparents on your list who are lost in cyber space but want to learn ... this is a gift that they'll never forget!

chores, cleaning out closets, pet care, clean up bedroom - all great gifts from kids to parents

meals (such as homemade frozen dinners), baked goods, house cleaning, rides to doctors appointments or shopping, lunch dates - all great choices for anyone who could use them, especially those in our lives that are needing extra help.

specialty services; what's your specialization and can you gift it to someone special in your life who made be thrilled to have the help? renovations, massage, technical, nursing, home care help +++ - awesome gifts for anyone you can help

tutoring help, special play dates, special adventures, special meals, do together projects and playtime - are all coupons kids will love

babysitting or child care - the perfect gift for a busy family in your life

hugs - probably the best gift a a child can give, especially to grandparents or other special people in their lives; it will guarantee a smile and be truly cherished

Coupon mom gives tips

This type of gift giving is a wonderful way to reinforce the true meaning and spirit of gift giving; to give to others, to take time to remember those who mean something special in our world. There's no better way to show someone how much you care than to give of yourself; it's a gift that can't be bought or duplicated and is as unique as the individual giving it.

Very neat set of ideas! I have a friend who one year gave out business cards for "hugs". The person receiving the card got a hug and then the card encouraged it to be passed on to someone else to keep the hugs going:)

I did this too...and people thought they were unusual, really seemed to enjoy them. I also gave coupons with blanks to fill in for what THEY wanted to give to someone else. Truly was a fun deal. Glad to read yours and with all your helpful suggestions too.

I've been using personalized coupon books for gifts since I was a young teen. The people who receive them always seem to enjoy -- and claim their coupons!

Readers of Eye Say can download my book "Olivia's Mine" for free until the end of December by using coupon code JY88W at Smashwords. It's a fictional account of the disasters up at Britannia Beach, BC circa 1920. You can also download Adobe e-reader for free (Google it) and enjoy other books on your computer if you don't have an e-reader.
