FREE MONEY! How and Where to Get Free Money

Updated on January 6, 2012

Free gift cards. I love them! Let me tell you a few ways to get them.

  1. With purchase of new or transferred prescription. You will find many coupons out for this type of thing. Say you have a prescription at K-mart, and find a coupon that says "FREE $10 gift card with transfer of prescription" at Target. If you take your prescription bottle next time you go to Target, they will do all the work and call and have the prescription transferred, and give you the $10 for doing it. Find a coupon for $25 gift card with a transferred prescription to K-mart? Change it back! CVS will honor any local competitors coupon, just make sure that you have read the coupon correctly. They will not give you the gift card if the coupon states "new prescription" and you are refilling a prescription. Just make sure to check the wording on the coupons, because some of the newer K-mart coupons say "will reimburse up to the amount you paid for the prescription." That will not make you any extra money, but will get you the gift card for the amount that you spent.
  2. FREE gift cards with purchase. Many times places like Target, Walmart, and Best Buy (just to name a few) will give you gift cards if you purchase a particular item. Target, many times, will give you a gift card with purchase of diapers, razors, and Glade products. Walmart tends to give out gift cards with certain game systems, and Best Buy gives them out with big ticket items. Be sure to check on this before making a purchase to calculate your cost savings. If a TV is at Walmart for $799, and the same one is at Best Buy for $849 but you get a $100 gift card, you will end up better paying up-front the extra $50.
  3. Survey sites and points sites. These gift cards can really help defer costs of all kinds of things - from groceries to gas to personal care items.

And you're saying, "What if I don't want a $100 Best Buy gift card? Wouldn't it suit me better to have the $50 cash instead of a $100 credit to a store where I never buy anything anyway?"
There are many websites now devoted to buying back your unused gift cards! Even if you used a little bit of it to buy a new whatever, you can sell the balance for up to 95%!! Some of these websites are,, and However, I have found that I've had the best luck selling them on eBay, getting 100% most of the time! Why do people pay 100% for a gift balance? I don't know. I don't care. Just show me the money!

Another great way to get some free money is to buy gift cards from these same places you can sell them to.  You can save up to 30% on gift cards this way.

So if you know that Kohl's has this awesome bedding on sale you've been wanting forever, you can order a gift card for 15% off using a service like, and save an extra 15%, or in other words, have 15% more MONEY!

Have a birthday coming up and you want to take your whole family to that pricey neighborhood restaurant?  Buy a gift card at a deep discount ahead of time.

Why is buying a gift card for a percentage off better than buying from groupon or similar site?

Because gift cards work like cash money and have no stipulations that go along with them.

$100 Discount Gift Card
$100 Groupon or Similar
Pay $85
Pay $75
Use B1G1 Free coupons
No additional discounts
$20/entree for 2 people
$20/entree for 2 people
EAT THERE FOUR TIMES on the gift card with some change
EAT THERE ONCE on the groupon with some change
Just an example of getting some FREE money!

I sure do love my free money! Just got me a Walmart giftcard at 9% discount. Getting gas at Walmart using a Walmart giftcard gets you a 3¢ discount per gallon. The money I saved? Free money for the first pedicure of the Spring!
