Make Money On Fiverr For Fundraising As Well As Rent?

Updated on July 14, 2013

There are a few ways to make money online quickly, including ghostwriting for iWriter and selling your weird, interesting and useful talents on Fiverr. Both of these sites are really easy to sign up for (you are walked through the process) and you could potentially start working today.

How Can You Make Money On Fiverr When You Only Make $5 Per Gig?

To hear the word fiverr you think of a cheap five dollar bill, and who would really want to work for that little all the time, right?

Well five bucks is not all a person can earn on the site. Once a person on fiverr can charge for extras (they have to make a few sales first), it has been my experience that people can make money on Fiverr far beyond the $5 initial payment.

I have never worked on Fiverr, but I have purchased many different gigs, such as eBook covers, logo creation, creative videos, psychic readings, and my latest - a little boy and girl telling jokes to make money for a very good cause (which is actually what inspired me to write this HubPage about Fiverr).

And, I should note that I have hardly ever spend ONLY $5. These people are so talented that you just want more of what they are willing to offer, which comes with a higher price.

In short, if you have any sort of talent whatsoever (and everyone does), then there is a market waiting for you on Fiverr, and you could end up being very popular and potentially pull in a good income.

Only Talented People Can Make Money On Fiverr Right?

Think you don't have talent that can make money? Think again. Some of the gigs I have seen on Fiverr are:

  • Animal impressions
  • Dressing up like a banana
  • Acting like a crazy ex boyfriend or girlfriend
  • Giving a good video product review
  • Teaching Italian over Skype for 30 minutes (Do you know a different language?)
  • Acting like a hippie
  • Writing a message on a pregnant belly
  • Writing a message on a hand
  • Tweet to followers
  • Write a message on personal car or truck

Of course, if you have talent that can be utilized by marketers and businesses on the web, such as illustration, logo creation, or voice-overs, then you have a high chance that people will pay for your extras. However, if you can come up with some extras that people would like, such as promoting extra words or adding music to a video, then you also have a high chance of people paying for extras as well.

Make Money On Fiverr And Promote Your Business

Fiverr is a way to make some extra money and gain customers off the site as well. Because you can talk about yourself, you can point people to yourself outside of fiverr.

For instance, I once found a psychic on fiverr who claimed that she was popular on other sites, radio shows, I looked her up and there she was! I found her personal website and realized that I could get much more from her on her site than I could at fiverr, which is just great business sense on her part. She gets you hooked on fiverr and then charges you for longer sessions or more information on her personal site.

I also see a lot of YouTubers who offer gigs on fiverr and then link to themselves on YouTube so you can check out their work. The fact that some people on YouTube are making great money from adsense means that they are getting double the business by making money on fiverr as well as making money through their videos. Plus they can link to their personal blogs or e-commerce sites from YouTube.

Those are just two examples of how businesses can use fiverr to promote themselves elsewhere. If you run a business, and have the time, I think it is a very smart thing to do for marketing yourself.

Using Fiverr To Raise Funds

This is not something I had thought of before today, but two kids named Millie and Benny made me aware that people can make money on fiverr for more than just paying the rent; they can raise funds as well.

This is brilliant! Instead of just asking for money, people can make money in exchange for a service. (In the case of Millie and Benny, the service is a joke.)

Millie and her brother Benny make money on fiverr as a way to make their house wheelchair accessible for Millie.

According to their personal site, Millie has Central Core Disease, which is a muscular myopathy. She cannot put weight on her legs, so she uses an electric wheelchair.

Following are two videos: The first is Millie in her new wheelchair that I saw before I ordered the joke and the second is the joke I ordered about dogs.

The Joke I Ordered About Dogs

Fiverr Is Not Just About Five Dollars

Again, the beauty of this type of fundraising is that you are giving something to get something, plus you can add extras onto your gig to earn even more money.

The following screenshot shows what Benny and Millie have attached on as extras so that they can get higher donations to their fundraising cause.

Whether You Want To Work Or Raise Funds - Fiverr Is A Great Place To Do It

In the end, everyone has a talent that they can offer the world. Because the Internet and e-commerce is becoming more popular everyday, original content is needed in order to stand out from the crowd. If you can offer people some sort of funny or original service, then the chances that you can make money on fiverr are very good.

I have seen some of the weirdest gigs in the world become very popular. These people are doing things that most of us would only do alone in our house with the curtains shut tightly, but it is working for them.

I also think raising funds in this way is a great way to get your message out and offer something in exchange for the money you are getting.

Plus, Fiverr makes it very easy for people to share your gigs, which means you can get recognized quickly through social media sites and, potentially, earn even more money from that recognition.

@adguru, I never heard of earnfromskill. I have to try that. I make great money from Fiverr and they even had a photographer do a photo shoot at my house.

I think I might have a Fiverr account, but as usual with me these things stay dormant until some hubber resparks my interest. Thanks for the tip.

Fiverr is definitely one of the more reliable places to earn a few extra dollars each month - along with Hubpages of course.

@Joe - That is really the prayer I made when I hit 'publish' for the hub - I would buy a ton of gigs from Benny and Millie if I could, but hopefully publishing this hub will result in a bunch of other people buying gigs.

I love the primary example you chose, and it's my earnest prayer that both endeavors--the kids' Fiverr project AND this wonderful hub about Fiverr--go viral! Thanks for sharing!

This is really interesting. I have heard of the site, but never really understood what it was about. I especially like the fundraiser for Millie. Thanks so much for sharing this information with the rest of us about Fiverr. Voted up, interesting and useful.
