Flip Items On Craigslist for Profit

Flip Items On Craigslist for Profit

A few months ago I came up with an idea to sell things on Craigslist and make a living. I use to sell things on EBay all the time so I figured that Craigslist wouldn’t be so hard. I came up with a plan and had to alter this plan over and over until I came up with a perfect way to buy things and flip them on Craigslist.

The Idea Behind Selling on Craigslist

People who sell their items on Craigslist are often looking to make quick cash. They want to get their items out of their home as quickly as possible so that they can get that extra cash. Most of these people are in need of money now and don’t have time to wait for the true value of the item.

What items can you sell?

I mostly sell electronics because these are always in demand and, if you are electronically inclined, you can fix these up and resell them. Anything can be flipped on Craigslist as long as you are willing to wait to be paid. I find items that people are selling extremely cheap and I buy them. I either buy them directly on Craigslist or I buy them at yard sales and repost them on Craigslist after I have fixed them up or cleaned them up.

How much Can I Make

I usually make between $30 to $150 off of each item depending on what it is and how much I had given for it. I never buy something that I don’t think will be of use to anyone, or if I don’t think that I will be able to sell it within a month. I move so many products that I have to be able to get rid of it within a month or it isn’t worth it to keep it in storage.

Can You Flip Furniture?

Yes, I have flipped furniture as well but you have to have a good eye for flipping furniture on Craigslist or be able to fix furniture if there is anything wrong with it. I started out flipping tables and chairs and moved up to flipping electronics. I heard of one guy who flips nothing but washing machines and dryers because this is what he knows how to work on.

Can I Make a Living on Craigslist?

I believe you can because I do. I love flipping items on Craigslist and have even been known to flip things for friends, which brings me to my next point:

Get your friends together and tell them that you would like to get rid of their items for a 20% commission. I am sure that you have friends with a lot of unused items laying around and they could probably use the extra cash.

I have sold anything from clothes, electronics, kitchenware, school supplies, and a lot more on Craigslist. Just about anything can be sold on Craigslist and flipping items on Craigslist is pretty easy if you are willing to put in the work to do it.

What You Should Know About Flipping Items On Craigslist

A Place to Store the Craigslist Items

Flipping on Craigslist means that you are going to have a lot of things lying around and you are going to need a place to store these. I advise a cool dry area or even a garage, depending on how big the items are. Everything inside the storage area must be stacked or placed neatly so that you can get to them fast as they begin to sell on craigslist.

The waiting game

Waiting to flip on Craigslist is all part of the game. I have waited an entire month before something would flip.

How often Should You Repost An Item On Craigslist

I repost an item every week or at least every two weeks. I use the same wording and price for a month and if it doesn’t sell by then, I simply lower the price a bit and reword my listing. I use the same wording to begin with just encase there is someone who used those exact words to find the item but they didn’t have the money at that moment. I then reword it after a month for those who are looking at similar items but use different wording.

What do you want to be known for?

I have people that have kept my number and still come to me, or send friends to me, because they know that I offer electronics at a reduced price and that they are well kept electronics. These people have helped me grow my business through word of mouth.

What to Flip on Craigslist

When you first get started, you may not know what to purchase to flip. In my experience, electronics is always the way to go but, electronics may not always work and you could end up with a garage full of junk.

If you are worried that this will not work, then stick with other household items such as furniture that is easy to fix and flip. I have been known to pick up items from big trash day and remake them, sell them, and collect a nice chunk of change. This may be the way to go for you.

Always keep a book of what it cost you to purchase the item, to remake or fix the item, and how long it took you to do this. Keeping good books is a must since you need to know what your overall profit is and how much you need to sell the item for.

Want More Advice?

Is flipping items on Craigslist easy, no it is not. The person who said that making money was easy, is full of crap. Making money is never easy and it takes time. Can you become rich over night? No one has become rich overnight…well, except for those of us who have had an ancestor to die and leave us a heap of money.

Why Craigslist? As The Cash Cow Couple have stated, Craigslist doesn’t charge a fee unlike Ebay and Amazon and you can see exactly what you are purchasing before you purchase it. There is no wait time for the product. Getting the product is as simple as making a drive.

The Krazy Coupon Lady suggest using terms such as “like new” in your listing once you refurbish the item. It states that saying that an item is like new puts it in the buyer’s mind that the item listed is almost as good as buying brand new but at a much cheaper price.

I found a few treasures at yardsales and flipped them on Craigslist. I have also went into thrift stores and found items to flip.

I love selling things on Craigslist. I have a lot of fun hunting for items to sell. I did get a little carried away one year, and ended up with a garage full of items. I also made a killing that year by selling things on Craigslist.

I tried doing this last summer but didn't make it very far. I am going to use your tips and try it again as soon as it starts to really arm up. I like finding things at yardsales. I once sold a bracelet I bought for a quarter for $24
