Free Things to do This Weekend

Updated on July 7, 2017

Weekends can be Expensive

Weekends can be great, they are a chance to relax after a hard week or spend time with your family. But sometimes weekends can get pricey and whether you are trying to save or just a little short of money, this can get pretty annoying. But there are so many free things that you can so at the weekend that will keep you and anyone you are with entertained for absolutely nothing!

The free things you can do in your hometown will totally depend on where you live. Some places have loads of free events on all the time, but others don't and you need to make your own entertainment. A quick search online will show you what's going on in your area at the weekend.

Art Galleries

A lot of art galleries are free to enter, and they are a wonderful place to soak up some beauty and culture. You get to see local artists and artists from different eras, and often, smaller art galleries will feature older paintings of the local areas so you can see what your hometown used to look like.

Even if you think that you don't like art, give it a try. I wasn't a big art lover until I started going to galleries and now I find it fascinating, I love seeing how talented some people are. Check that the galleries are open at the weekend, most open Saturday but some close on Sundays.

Look for free museums in your hometown or near to you that open at the weekend, a lot of places offer free entry but you might need to do a quick search for them. Museums are another great place to absorb a bit of culture and history. Local museums tend to have local history as well as national and international so it's always worth having a walk around.

Nature Walks

Whether you have a dog to take with you or not, nature walks are a great way to spend the weekend. You get to be outside in the fresh air, admiring the scenery, getting exercise and best of all not spending any money. Take your phone or camera with you and you could end up with some stunning pictures as a reminder of the lovely (and free) day you had.

It doesn't matter where, as long as you're allowed to have a picnic there, do it if you want to! Whether it is the park, the beach or a bandstand, make a picnic from whatever you have in the house (the idea is that it is free, so no buying food!) and set up in your spot. I forgot what fun picnics were until I was about 28.

Sight Seeing

I am willing to bet there are quite a few significant places in your town that you have never visited, I know there are in mine. I always think "I can go there anytime" but I never do. Spend some time looking around the place you live and remind yourself why you want to live there, it is free and it might make you appreciate your town a little more.

Movie Day Or Box Set Binge

Everyone loves a movie day, grab the blanket from your bed, curl up on the sofa, get as many snacks as you can imagine, healthy or otherwise. And just have a total movie or box set marathon, watch what you want, as long as it is free!

Weekends can be Free!

Weekends don't have to cost a lot of money to be fun, in fact you can have a great weekend without spending a single penny. The key is to do a little research and to get creative, you never know, you might save some money and broaden your horizons at the same time!

Yes, there's always plenty of free stuff you can do at the weekends. I like going to picnics and long walks.

Who said we need to spend money to have fun, right? I love doing all of the things you listed, thanks for the reminder!
