Give me Big Bills Please
A Huge Mistake
I have never before seen a thousand dollar bill up close and personal and recently had an experience at our local credit union where a huge mistake almost cost me money. My son who is visually impaired was going to loan his brother some money and had written a check for the two thousand dollar loan. Our credit union is undergoing change and this morning was very unusual. Normally we can go right up to a teller and do our transactions without having to wait but today with al the changes, the bank was filled with customers. We grabbed a cup of joe and some of the free donuts supplied for the changeover event and settle back in line for our turn.
Wiping my lips from the sugary glaze of a Krispy Creme donuts, I stepped up to the teller and handed her the check made out to cash and told her to give us the proceeds in big bills. My son was standing next to me and I didn't think twice as she handed me two bills and a paper to sign. I commented, "Wow! I've never seen a bill that big before" as I placed the two bills in my son's shirt pocket. We left the bank and headed for the barber shop where i was to meet my daughter in law and pick up my two grandsons for the day.
With all my errands done we soon were back home and my son pulled the two bills from his pocket to show his mother what a thousand dollar bill looked like, lie me this would be a new experience. To our amazement he had two one hundred dollar bills in his hand. I immediately called the Credit Union and told them of this mistake. The teller was still on duty when I arrived back at the CU and was so embarrassed by her mistake. I told her not to worry as long as it could be fixed. People do make mistakes and this one was made with a Supervisor looking over her should, so both were equally responsible for the error. The poor girl commented it had been one of those days and took decided to take the rest of the day off.
Well at least it all worked out but for a little while I was worried. this time we got 20 $100 dollar bills, counted twice.
Have you ever seen a $1000 bill? Have you had a similar experiences at your bank or Credit Union?.
