Heard of Wikinut? – A site similar to Hubpages

Updated on December 16, 2015

Introduction

Update: Hello Readers, I wrote this article sometime back. The recent update, as of 16th December, 2015, is that Wikinut will no longer pay for articles. They intend to create a site for sharing knowledge. That is the update. So you will now come to my original article starting from the next paragraph. Kindly, ignore parts speaking about payment.

Wikinut is another site similar to Hubpages and lets authors publish their work. The articles there are called “Pages”, which is an equivalent of a “Hub” here on Hubpages. They have a review system which ensures quality content on the sites. The website is owned and operated by Wikinut Ltd. which is registered in England and Wales. So, the implied meaning is that you earn in pounds. Also, there is no need to have an adsense account. That should be good news for many of the Asian authors, who now have to wait six months, till their adsense account is approved by Google.

Wikinut

The Fundamentals

The basic principle of this site, like I mentioned before, is just like Hubpages. You write quality content and submit it for review. If your content is fine then it is immediately accepted and published. If however, there are changes or corrections required then the same is notified to you. You can make the changes and submit again. So, no sweat till now, I guess.

The best part of this site is the fact that it allows you to submit content you have submitted elsewhere. However, you have to notify the moderator about the content being already available on another site else it would be rejected upfront. I have few of my hubpages articles submitted over there and can vouch for this rule.

I have also noticed few hubbers there and serious writers. Almost all the people I follow submit on an average 3 articles every day. That said, the quality of articles is comparable to Hubpages. The community is also vibrant and they have an author of the week, just like we have the Hub of the Day.

Accolades

Wikinut has accolades for its members but not as extensive as the ones at Hubpages. There are the:

“Star Page” – Reserved for writers submitting great work. It is for a particular article and authors can have many star pages.

“Views” – This is a reward recognizing the views that we get. It is stacked as 100, 1000, 10,000 and so on.

“Pages” – Basically is the number of articles we have written and is highlighted as 1, 10, 25, 50 and so on.

“Belts” – This is to highlight the overall strengths of the author. The belts are green, orange, blue, purple and black in increasing order. So, I am currently a blue belt

Also, wikinut gives adhoc awards based on various levels of evaluation of authors.

Ease of Submitting Articles

Articles submission is similar to how we do it here in Hubpages. There are capsules which are already added and you can build your article based on the capsules. You can also add pictures and choose one of the pictures to be the article’s preview picture. This is unlike Hubpages, where the first picture in our article by default becomes the preview picture.

The formatting is simpler on Hubpages though, on a one-to-one comparison. You can also add youtube videos on Wikinut, but currently, no videos from any other sites are allowed. The formatting is simple to pick up and within two –three articles, you can have it at the back of your mind.

So, how are we remunerated?

A member on wikinut can earn in any of the following ways:

  1. Directly write and submit articles
  2. Become a moderator and moderate articles and earn from it and/or
  3. Royalties from referrals

A member can earn from all three modes mentioned above. However, it is left to the members. Depending on the traffic we get, which in my opinion is way more than what I get on Hubpages, we make money. Once we accumulate GBP 5, we can redeem the same.

Referral Programs

As mentioned earlier, the site has a referral program where we earn about 10% of the earnings of our referral for a lifetime. The link, as with any website, is provided under your account.

So, how do I get started?

To get started you’ll can visit the site and join them. You can submit articles after the initial validation of account. This is generally a smooth process.

What next?

If you all are seriously considering joining then may I suggest using my referral link to join?

Here is the link to Wikinut: http://www.wikinut.com/in/tnogik/

Please remove the spaces and use the above url.

If you have any queries or clarifications, please post it in the comments section over here and I will answer them.

Conclusion

So, let me summarize the major takeaways about Wikinut:

  1. You submit an article and earn
  2. Earning is in GB Pound
  3. You can redeem on accumulating a minimum of GBP 5
  4. No need for Google adsense
  5. You can submit your articles submitted elsewhere, so long as it is your own article

So, that’s about the site and I will share more of my experiences in some time soon.

This is such great advice. I have many articles on my computer from an old website I removed two years ago. Some might have been published on my blog or on other networks, but It would be great to be able to use them, after I might do some editing. Thank you!

      Hello Laura-n-Sasha

I earlier copied few articles from Hubpages and subsequently removed it from here. However, now there are few articles on Wikinut which are still available on Hubpages. I am not sure why Hubpages does not flag it as duplicate.

Anyway, I earn more from Wikinut at the moment. Which is also due to the fact that I have referrals there.

      Thanks for stopping by!!

Thanks Savio for the article. A friend of mine is on there and I was wondering which is better. I like the idea of submitting similar articles on multiple sites but I see that you ultimately took them off of HubPages. Which site earned you more money per article (same article on both sites?) Thanks!

Hi Savio, I don't think it was your mistake - I think that site was too complicated for its own good! Your explanation is clear and gives the important facts.

      Hi Sallybea,

      Sure do.

      Hi Sallybea,

Your understanding of not reproducing hubs elsewhere is correct, but hubpages has stopped tracking hubs being copied. That is the reason why our hubs are getting copied elsewhere and we do not get an intimation. Anyway, I had few articles from here reproduced on Wikinut, and again there were no duplicate content notice. However, I did eventually remove those articles from Hubpages.

Also, the currency does not mean that only the English should write at that site. I am an Indian earning in Dollars from Hubpages and Pounds on Wikinut. If you have a paypal account then it wouldn't matter where you write from and in what currency you earn.

Thanks for your comments, though and thanks for stopping by.

As I understand it, we are not meant to publish our Hubs elsewhere - I think HubPages would see re-publishing your Hubs elsewhere as duplicate content! Publishing fresh material to this site would be fine and earning in pounds would be a very good option for people writing from the UK.
