How Can I Save Money On My Wedding?

Updated on August 21, 2014

If you have champagne taste and caviar dreams on a white bread and soda pop budget you don’t need to worry because you can still have a beautiful but cheap wedding. In the following lines I will explain what you should do to save money on your wedding.

Trim Your Wedding Guest List

First, you should trim your wedding guest list. When you put a new name on your wedding list you, actually, increase your budget significantly. It is not only about the catering cost but it is about the extra centerpieces, favors, rentals, etc. You should not invite people that you haven’t talked to in five years; this should be a great rule for you. Also you shouldn’t feel guilty if you don’t invite all your work colleagues and don’t let your friends bring their children.

Save Postage on Your Wedding Invitations

Second, you can save postage on your wedding invitations. It is very simple, you should forget the old way of getting the reply from your guests like a reply card, and you should ask your guests to reply online or by telephone. You will save money from the printer bill, and you will also cut your postage expenses.

Shop Sample Sales and the Internet for Cheap Wedding Dresses

Third, you should shop sample sales and the internet for cheap wedding dresses. If you are size 6, 8 or 10, you should check out sample sales, which can occur once a year. It is a great opportunity to get a designer dress for a very cheap price. There is another alternative, you should try on eBay, Craigslist and other websites for cheap bargains on used wedding dresses. Also if this alternative doesn’t work there are always many towns with at least one shop where you can rent a wedding dress, and you can save hundreds of dollars.

Change the Day of the Week

Fourth, you should change the day of the week. It is a good idea to have your wedding on a weeknight or a Sunday because there is less demand for these dates and vendors will be willing to give you a better price.

Save Money on Church Decorations

Fifth, you can save money on church decorations. For a religious wedding you should plan to have it near a major holiday. This way the church will already be decorated and you will save a lot of money on flowers and flower arrangements. If your wedding is on other days you should look for simplicity. You should take in consideration a candlelit ceremony which is romantic, gorgeous and inexpensive.
