How to Build a New Spring Wardrobe on a Budget

Updated on March 26, 2012

Spring is a significant transition period not just in terms of climatic change but also as pertains to fashion and style. In fact, it is during spring that most people shed off their winter apparels and in their place acquire clothing items that compliment the weather that is neither too warm nor too cold.

While this may seem to be exciting, there are a number of underlying factors that must be taken into account to ensure that you do not get it wrong altogether especially with regard to the nature of clothing items and budgets.

Spring Clean Your Closet

There are certain basics that must feature the process of building a new spring wardrobe. This will require that you first look through your closet for any essential spring apparels that you may be having. These may include colorful items such as floral dresses, suits and even scarves as bright colors bring in a sense of warmth.

Other considerations include checking for any outfits that are ideal for warm weather as spring comes so suddenly. You may also want to switch your clothing from wool to blends of wool or silk to linen or cotton even as you build your spring wardrobe. A crisp cotton shirt is also a must have item for your spring wardrobe because it can be paired with different combinations ranging from slacks to jeans.

Spring Wardrobe Basics

You also must ensure that you have stretch pants and a sharp blazer as they go a long way in adding versatility to your wardrobe.

Other basic items that you also must have include; a twinset that is silk knit as it can be simply paired a cardigan and can be worn with khakis as well as jeans for the purposes of dressing down.

Another basic item for your wardrobe is a spring suit that comes in neutral colors like cream, navy, beige or even taupe. This is ideal for cocktails as well as business and can be easily complimented by accessories.

Remember to include other items such as a microfiber raincoat just incase as well as hats. In most cases a straw hat is ideal. Lastly, include a short sheath or slip dress that has a great floral appeal for the evenings as well as a pair of strappy sandals.

How to Hunt for Bargains

While understanding the importance of having the above items for your spring wardrobe, the only challenge that is bound to arise is the finances required to put together your wardrobe.

This means that you may want to take advantage of clearance sections of websites that deal in apparels as you could find some really great deals at discounted prices. Clearance sales usually have a certain percentage of the initial selling price slashed even though the quality is not compromised. In some instances, clearance sales could offer discounts of more than 50 percent. Shopping in the clearance section helps you to save incredibly. Even then, you must be willing to take the initiative to look out for the sales as the different store may not roll have their clearance sales at the same time.

By shopping from the clearance section of websites like or, you can be sure of being able to build your spring wardrobe successfully on a tight budget.

One final tip: be sure to check for a kohls promo code, or search for promo codes 2012 for some potential extra discounts and savings on your online purchase.
