How Coffee Bar at Home Saved Us a Lot of Money
Coffee In Our Lives
My husband and I are avid coffee drinkers. My coffee obsession began while I was studying at university. Coffee helps me to feel awake especially at night for study and writing assignments. Before my husband and I got married, one of the topics we often discussed over the internet is coffee. Many years ago, while I lived in Kuala Lumpur, I didn't own any coffee machine, far away to have a coffee station at home.
Fulfilled the Caffeine-Fixed
After we got married, we began buying a coffee maker to fulfill our caffeine-fixed in the morning. Sometimes, on the weekend we went out to find a new coffee place to try. Then, my husband also started subscribing coffee beans from the coffee roaster that deliver their signature coffee every month to our house. In the beginning, it was pleasant but, we felt something wasn't right. We end up spending too much money on coffee every month. So, we decided to find a solution to our coffee addiction.
The Search of A Coffee Bar Began
So, to fix the problem, we went to a few stores to look up for a table or a counter that we can use for a coffee bar. At first, my husband thought of making it. However, in the next few months, we planned to move to the new house so, a new coffee bar wouldn't be hurt. We looked thorough but, we can't decide what we want.
Down East Home Store
Until one day, we went to the Down East Home store, there we saw a long dark cabinet with drawers stood. We slowly walked in between the furniture in the store to get to it. In my head, I was hoping for an affordable price because we like it a lot. We were so relieved when we saw a discount tag was hanging on it. Ta-da, it was on sale. A sales assistant told us one of the legs is wobbly, that why it was in the sale. Quickly my husband says he can fix that. So yay! We bought the cabinet.
New House New Coffee Bar
When we moved to our new house, we decided to make the coffee bar as a center of attraction. The coffee bar looks very decent with the espresso machine, coffee grinder, drip coffee maker, cups, and others. In the meantime, we decided to put two wall shelves on the top for coffee decorations.
Now it's time to save money. What did we do? Firstly, my husband decided to stop subscribing to the coffee beans. (We paid $25 each month for a year). Then, we bought two coffee pods (cost $6 for both) for the Nespresso machine. The coffee pods allow us to replicate the Nespresso capsules; by putting the coffee ground in it, seal it with a sticker - Voila we can use it. No more purchase $30-$50 coffee capsules from Nespresso.
Discount Store For Better Deals
We also end up buying a cheaper coffee brand like Yuban for the drip coffee. By the way, we went to the discount store like HomeGoods for cheaper coffee syrups. It's so worth it to make your own Caramel Frappuccino at home during the summertime. From the day we have the coffee bar my husband brought coffee every day from home to work. He used to stop at Starbucks in the morning for coffee, now no more!
Take Advantage During Sale Season
A year ago, during Black Friday, we bought a decent espresso maker, a coffee grinder, and a milk frother. (Save money by buying stuff during Black Friday or Christmas sale). Though we spent some cash, all items are for the long-term investment. Guess what? It paid off. We ended up saving a lot of money by making coffee at home. After all this time we then realized we spent too much money on drinking coffee outside. It is easier to save money like this when you decided to have a coffee bar or coffee station at home. Trust me. It is very worth it.
