Is There An Easy Way To Make Money?

A Prologue To Easy Money Making

Around 20 years ago, a friend of mine approached me. He revealed about discovering a way to get richer in no time. Like anyone, it tickled my enthusiasm. I asked for the secret. He requested me to follow him on Sunday. Like an obedient pupil, I immediately obliged. On Sunday, I was supposed to be at a place where live examples were going to show me how to do it.

What Lies In The Scheme

It was a decent hall with several suited gentlemen and women at attendance. The program started with introduction. We were told about the scheme. Then 10 examples followed assuring us of their earnings. By this time, it was planted in our mind that we have struck gold. We are going to earn big by getting a membership of this Company or Firm or Institution. For membership, they charge. The task of getting richer is simple. We have to introduce and get more members under us. It was a Pyramid Scam. You need to make members under you and get paid. Those members will make new members under them and so on and form a pyramid and money will keep flowing into your account for life. Mathematically this is impossible, as after a few levels, it demands more members than the world’s population.

Almost 20 years have passed. I have seen 400 such getting rich pyramid scheme. Constantly seeing getting the organizers either arrested or fleeing the country to safe havens. Seeing how people are duped even of their life’s saving. I can see them left devastated, distressed and distraught waiting for their hard earned money to return in vain. The irony is one scheme closes and a new is born with a new name. We are again made to believe that this is genuine. We cherish a dream of earning big. We again get hooked to the scheme to be duped and devastated later.

The Million Dollar Question

The million dollar question is why we get hooked to such Ponzi schemes. How people who are learned and well versed in current affairs are brainwashed and duped? Why even scheme after scheme, we have not developed a warning system?

In few countries such Ponzi schemes or pyramid schemes are banned. But in others, they are creating havoc. One peculiar thing is that they are active in rich and poor countries alike. Also, these scamsters are able to cheat the well informed and illiterate equally.

What Lies In Our Brain

I think our brain is wired to be lured and duped. We are impatient. We want to reach the moon before anyone can. This urge of ours is what is manipulated by these Ponzi schemers. This urge is so strong that even after knowing the trap, we shut our eyes and let our brain believe once more.

Just last month, a friend again approached me. He has been duped earlier at least 10 times. This time as usual, he strongly believes, he will get richer. He again requests me to join his Pyramid scheme despite my repetitive warnings. He believes I will remain in the middle income if I not hop onto his bandwagon. I said am happy to be in the middle income group. Most astonishing thing is that this friend of mine is well learned and much more knowledge than average people.

Side Effects of Easy Money Making Schemes

In India, every year, a huge Pyramid is unearthed apart from scores of smaller ones. Newspapers are filled with the distraught and duped faces of several. Many, who put their life’s saving, even commit suicides. Still these scamsters come up with new ideas and schemes to again dupe. This has become a vicious circle.

The Truth of Behind Such Schemes

We all know the golden rule that there is no easy way to make money. If so, the great economists would have applied it over their country. No one would have been starving to death. Everyone would have been richer. Even the governments would have participated in such schemes if earning is so easy.

I wish everyone will keep a safe distance from these schemes and alert the authorities whenever they see one to help avert a disaster to happen. Always remember that there is no easy way to make money.

Good article. Yes, it is surprising how smart people, who don't need any more money, fall for such schemes. In the U.S. when someone goes on a job search they will get tons of solicitations from organizations that want them to sell stuff. It makes the job search even worse than it already is.

It's unfortunate that especially after having been scammed once, your friend didn't learn his lesson.
