How to live on less

Believe you can survive with just the basic necessities. Simplify. Adapt. Change for the better. These words are just easy to say but hard to do. But if we want to survive in this lifetime, we should definitely strive and work hard for our standard of living that we want to keep.

In a world where most people would like to live in a fast and furious lane of fortune and luxury, the reality is quite different. We are threatened by rising unemployment due to economic downturn. It just shows we are living in uncertain times.

One experience is about a couple, which the husband, the breadwinner lost his job. When he bacame unemployed, the wife was so unhappy she constantly blames her husband for the sudden downturn of their finances. But she realized they need to simplify their lives. They have to let go of the other car and carpooled. Always maximizing the list of things to buy when they go grocery. Rather than eat out and watch movies at the cinema, they have family picnic with packed food with them. They can play scrabble at home or sing together for family fun. They also have to keep track of all their expenses versus their income. When the husband got hired again after submitting numerous applications (he did not give up looking for a job), the whole family decided to keep their way of living simple. They are much happier and secure now than they were before.

So, how do we keep a positive attitude and live happy and fulfilling lives? By having an optimistic attitude and keeping a realistic view will make a major difference. Let go of the things that holds you back. And don't be shy to ask for help if you need it. Our life is not only for fulfilling our physical, emotional, and material desires but also our spiritual needs. Keep that faith and it will help you reach out for a better tomorrow.

Hello, Prea, welcome to HubPages. This is a good and useful hub. I like the story of the husband losing his job and the whole family finally realising they could live on far less and become closer to one another by doing things together that do not cost money.

I'm going to follow you and hope to read more of your hubs.

Making ends meet is a huge chore nowadays. We need to tighten our belts sometimes to the point of cutting off blood circulation! lol But the truth is, there will always be challenges lurking around. How we face them is what matters.

Welcome to Hubpages. I hope you enjoy writing here.
