Make A Meal for Under Twelve Dollars and Feed Five People
Delicious does not have to be expensive
Family Dinner the Cheap and Delicious Way
Dinner time can be very stressful if you are living paycheck to paycheck. One of my favorite things to eat is chicken pot pie because it is healthy for you and it tastes really good. If you are cooking Chicken pot pie from scratch your meal can be very expensive. Here is my cheap and delicious version of chicken pot pie.
Pie Crust- Start off by buying your pie crust. This pie crust does not have to be special. In fact for my recipe I look for the cheapest pie crust available. My grocer sells pie crust for 2.50 each. That includes the top and bottom of the pie. In order to feed my family of five I need to purchase two of them.
Chicken Pot Pie Soup-Go to the soup aisle in your grocery store and look for the Chicken Pot Pie Soup. The only two brands that I have ever used for my recipe is Progressive and Campbell's. My local store sells these soups for around 2.50 each and I purchase two cans.
Buy Your Side- In order to complete my chicken pot pie dinner i usually serve it with a side salad of ice burg lettuce and cucumbers. My cucumbers are 60 cents each and the lettuce is about 1.50.
Cook Your Meal- This part is so easy, some might not consider it cooking. Once I get home I open my pie shells and my soup cans and pour each can of soup into the shells. I then place the remaining shells on top of the shells with the soup. I then place the pies on a baking pan and put them in the over for about 35 minutes on 420 and take them out when the crusts are golden brown.
I then began working on my side salad by washing and chopping up my cucumbers and lettuce and my dinner for five is done. The end result will taste like you have been cooking for hours and spent a ton of money on the ingredients. Happy Eating!
