Making Money at ChatAbout

Updated on September 26, 2014

Warning, avoid this site!

Read the latest update about ChatAbout at the bottom of the page. If you want you can read the rest of the article and see the negative progression this site has undertook since it's relatively new inception about a year ago.

Have You Heard About ChatAbout?

Have you heard of ChatAbout yet? This is a quality site, where people can make money to comment, write reviews and articles. It allows members to ask questions and reply to comments, write about any topic they want, or write reviews. Granted, it won't pay the rent, but still it's a fun, easy place to spend a bit of time everyday.

ChatAbout is a newer site, which has potential for having great popularity. They started with having better incentives, but as of now the referral program consists of if someone clicks on your referral link, you'll receive one point.

As of now looking at the sites stats, ChatAbout gets about 50k page views each day, and around 8k visitors. They are ranked 9,675th in the world according to thatweb.com. Not bad for just starting out less than a year in the making. For now, signing up has to be done through facebook, but if you have a facebook account, this makes it very easy to sign up and start making money.

How Much Can You Make?

ChatAbout pays by points, and these points can be redeemed in Amazon credits, Paypal cash, or many varies items they have in the prize section. For every comment and reply you'll receive 1 point, every review 5 points, and every article 10 points. When you amass 500 points, you can then redeem them for $5, so basically every point is worth a penny. They want the comments to be a minimum of only 20 words long. The articles and reviews, they just want them to be logical and informative, and don't have a set length for them.

This isn't very good incentives, but they will add up after awhile. I have cashed out three times now and have earned $15. They have a bonus section too where you can earn 5 points daily for taking an easy poll. They changed the amount of total points you can make from commenting and replying to a maximum of 50 points a day. (Update, they have lifted this comment limit and lowered the points to one per comment and reply).

Why ChatAbout?

ChatAbout is a user friendly site, where you can go to learn things and have good conversations about a variety of topics. The administration there are interactive and like to get the members input to improve the site. In time, they'll improve the site to include various upgrades, which will likely mean more abilities to make money and more incentive to write articles and reviews. For now, it's a fun place to spend a bit of time at and eventually cash out.

I would compare the site as a mix of a forum posting site and a place like Swagbucks. It's made simple enough, to where you can just comment and interact without a lot of the worthless pursuits Swagbucks and survey sites put you through.

An other reason to go to ChatAbout, is the ability to put back-links to relevant blogs you have or websites. As long as they are not spam, this can be a place to promote your blog or websites. Overall, ChatAbout is a quality site, user friendly, and is legit. I would recommend it to anyone who wants another egg in the basket.

Update on Chatabout

It is now April 30, 2014. I wanted to write and update to reflect on Chatabout. I already edited the article above to show the current changes they've made, concerning the point incentives. Although the changes have been mostly negative, I still think it is a place where we can make some money and so recommend it.

I'm hoping they start improving the site and giving more incentives, because before the changes the site was growing rapidly. After the changes the site became like a ghost town. I think people are starting to find their way there now though, not knowing how it has changed for the worst.

When they started, they offered a 20% referral incentive, so each person who signed up from your referral link -- you would receive 20% of their points with them not losing any points. That was to good to be true, and now they have made it so you receive only one measly point for each click on your referral. That was the worst change, but also they lowered the points for a reply and comment to one, for reviews by 5, and articles by 10! Who wants to write an article for ten cents? I guess if you back-link to a blog.

That's the updated skinny on Chatabout, I still go there and do the daily poll where I get 5 points each day, and after a couple months will cash out again to get my $5. Still a place where you can make some points just chatting, so check it out, but let's hope they improve the site from here. Blessings.

July 29th 2014 Update

I wanted to write another update, to let you know this is still a site you can make money with. They seem to be improving the site more towards a survey type sight instead of a MyLot type chat site. Although, they have created a post area and photos area where you can make some points for posting random posts and pictures. I believe it's 5 points for a post, not sure about the photos.

Basically, all I do there everyday nearly is go and complete the daily poll, scroll through this thing called paths which I make 2 points for, and then if they have it available I click on an ad which gives me 5 points for just checking it out. So, I earn 7-12 points a day for about 1-3 minutes of my time. Also, every once in a while I make a point for someone clicking on my referral link. This strategy makes me about $3-$4/month.

It's an easy way to make about $5/month. Cashing out has never been a problem, and I receive the money into my Paypal within a day. So, this site is still worth checking out, it also can be a back-linking site for your blogs or hubs. If you work the site more, you could make $10-$30/month.

July 31, 2014 Update

OK, so I just found out that ChatAbout has decreases the worth of a point by half. They have made each point now worth a half a cent instead of a cent. This means you have to earn 1,000 points in order to receive the min. payout of $5, instead of 500 points.

I found this out from an article on Daily Two Cents today and thought I would clue you in. This is another bad development on ChatAbout. It seems since they started, the site has been getting worse and worse instead of better and better. I'll likely keep doing the before mentioned strategy there, but maybe I'll just move on...

September 26th, 2014 Update

Unfortunately I have to write a final update about ChatAbout which is negative. They have now stiffed me my last payment and basically banned me from my account without any reason or notification.

The site has just gotten worse and worse since it started, and the admin there are a bunch of pansy liberal cowards far as I could tell. Here is the final email I sent them:

Hello ChatAbout Admin.,

Interesting that I can't log in at all through either my facebook or email. I was able to log in before and request my payout of $5, but now I can't log in no matter what I do and I haven't been paid after about 5 days.

Usually you all pay within a day, so I'm assuming this means you have basically stiffed me and banned me from the site.

This site has gotten worse and worse since it's beginning, so I don't really care. There will be some bad reviews coming through. I have a popular Hub about Chatabout and a blog on my blog, and they will be receiving an update of how you treat people here.

Remember, we all reap what we sow. You could have had a good site here, but's it's just another sketchy place full of pansy admin. people who are part of the NWO kiss up crowd. See how this works out for you.

Sincerely, Lowdown0

Have you heard about ChatAbout, are you already there, are you going to join?

I've never heard of ChatAbout before. It does sound interesting. But I wonder why you can only create an account there by using Facebook? Some sites, like HubPages, give you the option of being able to choose whether you want to sign in using Facebook or not.

Yeah, I think this is one of the cons of the site for now. You can't sign up without a facebook account, but I think this will change after they improve some things about the site. It must be cause they are just beginning and it's easier that way, cheaper?

May have a deal with facebook for their start up funding, or maybe an offshoot of facebook is my guess.

I didn't like having to use Facebook to register and sign in. I also think you can make much more for time spent on Bubblews. I will also write a review of this site.

Yeah, I don't like that aspect either. I'm hoping chatabout evolves into a better site, but for now, it's not bad for being new. If you can make Bubblews work for you then great. My experience is they don't pay all the time. They shut down my account for talking about a bubbler who wasn't paid. I was nice enough, just wondering what happened.

I joined, got enough points to redeem, redeemed..it said I would get my reward within 48 hours.... withing 30 min my account was deactivated and they didn't have my e-mail in the system, contacting the contact page..they never replied. and I never got my gift card...

it was a complete waste of time and does not work.

(I didn't even do the answering part, I was in their "Bonus section" completing offers)

That's the first time I've heard such a negative report, I believe you though. That is strange, I have redeemed three times for a $5 Paypal and received it in my Paypal within 24 hours. I do know as I have updated this hub that they started out better, and have declined in their incentive. They seem to have a decent Alexa rating, so people are still using the site, but if they start ripping people off then they won't grow and improve. Sorry to hear this.

They're too butthurt. I would simply make a comment about how sometimes I find it difficult to participate because many of the topics I am interested in are not active. Eventually my comments got deleted. Now I'll admit that the admin did warn me. However I explained to him that this was not a negative on Chatabout. This is simply me. He said yep no worries. I asked him should I not post about my difficulties at all he said you can just don't bash chatabout. My comments were still deleted. I guess it was the final nail in the coffin when I replied to someone I agree that if a site wants to keep visitors they need to be able to take constructive criticism. I had even said in previous comments that I know this is not my site and I know it is what it is. Now tell me how any of this is bashing Chatabout. It made me upset because I've been going through a major depressive episode lately and the site helped some. But I guess Brent is the type to kick a girl while she's down. Anyway though I think I am targeted because I think I have been more positive than the others who post I take a little comfort in the fact that other people who weren't bashing them were getting comments deleted too. I wish I had cashed out before I had started saying ANYTHING. I got 5 dollars pretty quickly and it was taken away just as quick. It still baffles me tho that it said I had a message from Brent and I was deleted before I could even read it, probly telling me I was about to deleted. If you have the decency to warn me shouldn't you also have the decency to clarify what you mean I mean literally "bashing Chatabout" was all he said no examples or anything, he makes me think of those Britney Spears fans who get upset just because someone said she can't sing (I love Britney btw but I can take criticism) I don't know I know you had success with that site but I'm waiting for karma to bite these people in the ass because I'm tired of people telling me what I can and can't do. The internet is censored as it is couldn't that site be better than that.

Hey there LG, I understand where your coming from, I have gotten comments deleted from ChatAbout as well when I was asking about ChatAbout and not positive about their changes. Also they wouldn't accept an article I wrote about the Republican logo elephant being upside down pentagram, which is a blatant Satanic symbol.

What I do there is go and do the daily poll, then the paths, and then click on an offer they give 5 cents for clicking on, and that is all I do every day, unless I want to put a back-link from a blog post I just wrote. This gives me about $5 every month and a half.

Bubblews is another place that can't take criticism.

Yeah I'm kinda not surprised anymore seems like they want nothing but praise anymore so they can hide the fact that they are bi-polar with paying people. I'm not making another account even if they let me and begged me. I never even did the offers because they don't seem any better than GPT sites.

Some of these sites have some lame brains running them, otherwise why not make the site really popular. ChatAbout could have been a great site if they just did a couple things, another site like this that could be great is Teckler. Bubblews is actually an ugly slow site, but they at least made it popular acting as though they would pay people and have paid most.

I have no problem with Chatabout reducing the amount earned per point, as long as they continue actually paying out, which they have. It's not like Bubblews, which keeps on promising to pay a penny for every view, like, comment then doesn't pay the redemptions.

Vampirate, this is true, at least they are staying within their means and being upfront an honest with their people. The staff are very reachable and hands on there as well. If that's all they can do, then it's better than nothing, or may just find something better to do.

Well, I've tried out Chatabout because it initially looked so promising. However, after managing to earn a whopping 56 points (and God knows how long that took me!), I am starting to think that this site is either a joke or just a scam.

They claim to allow you to earn points for watching videos, yet NONE of their videos work. They claim to pay you for doing surveys, yet NONE of their surveys work. In fact, there is only one thing in their entire 'bonus area' that actually works and that is the daily poll which will earn you a measly one point per day.

It looks to me like this site is blatantly ripping people off and making loads of false claims. It actually looks like I've never ever got a chance of even making it to my first payout because earning points there is close to impossible.

sparkster, you've hit the nail on the head with this site. They have digressed quickly since they began. You can see this from the review I've written here. Even when I was there a couple months ago they would give 5 points for their daily poll, now only one? And they recently made the points worth a half a penny instead of one penny!

And, they blatantly ripped me off my last payout!

I forgive them, they are just a pack of dummies, because they could have had a great popular site, but they obviously are poor leaders and creators, and ultimately with how they've been digressing, they will completely be destroyed in six months or less.

Thanks for your impute, sounds sincere to me.

Sparkster must be outside North America. I have no problem earning 50 points every day doing the daily poll, noso, numerous videos, and attempting to take surveys (I never seem to qualify but still get one point for trying), and some commenting. I've heard it's harder for members outside North America to reach the minimum 50 point goal. Chatabout has added a lot of advertising to help generate revenue, which is a positive step. And, in North America at least, they've added more video-earning opportunities. And the cashout points have dropped to 500 again (it's still 1000 outside North America).

So far, Chatabout has been working for me, but I'm going to remain alert and skeptical for the time being. I got ripped off by Bubblews for some $600 after reading glowing reviews and receiving one payment, so I'll just keep on cashing out the minimums at Chatabout as fast as possible.

That's too bad key, 300 points takes some work too. They gave me no reason as well, and took 1,000 points from me after I'd already cashed them out. Just didn't get the $5. They have become another Bubblews.

Just to confirm, yes I am outside of North America - I am in UK. I can't see how users can earn from advertising, unless this also doesn't apply to those outside of North America?

apparently this site like bubblews doesn't like foreigners, they get half or next to nothing that US citizens get paid for content written. On chatabout US citizens get 5 dollars for 1000 points, but foreigners have to make 2000 points before they get a a 5 dollar payout.

I'm an American, and for some reason have not been able to log into Chatabout for months. I attributed it to getting a new computer, but no one responded to my email about being not being able to log in. I had been active until then, and I still don't know what happened. Doing the daily poll was my midnight ritual, but I'm weaned now and have my hands more than full with other sites, so I don't miss it much. It appears I have nothing to mourn here.

Interesting, yeah the support team there is out to lunch, hallmark of a site going under. Could have been great, but failed to be. Started out great, then instead of improving, got worse and worse.

Just another dumb ass site making money off of other peoples time! I'm fed up with sites like this! I started to check something about gluten free desserts and ended up on some other site where they wanted me to join. And it's about time that there is a more legitimate place where people can seriously complain about being stiffed. $5.00 is still something - imagine how many other people they have done this too. They are just reaping in money for themselves. Too much exploitation on the internet, because they can get away with it!

Well said t-train, the fact you are saying this still means they are still afloat scamming people. Eventually they will get ripped off too, and indeed anyone who cheats or steals only steals from themselves, because a clear conscience is priceless, and that they do not have. So instead of being angry, I'll simply expose their lies and then pray for them to be saved by Jesus Christ.
