My First Penny!

Updated on February 1, 2016

A momentous occasion

Flags are waving on Wall Street because I HAVE MADE MONEY ON HUBPAGES!
Flags are waving on Wall Street because I HAVE MADE MONEY ON HUBPAGES!

It's time to celebrate

I have been on hubpages for five weeks now and writing for three weeks. The first two weeks I spent learning more about the site and reading a lot of the information there. I also spent some time trying to figure out how to set up Adsense and Analytics. In the past three weeks I have written 15 hubs and TODAY I earned my FIRST PENNY.

I realize that in the grand scheme of things this is a small accomplishment. But it gives me great joy. In lieu of calling a press conference, I have elected to write this hub to inform everyone of my new found success. Not only am I on the first rung of the ladder to fame and fortune, I have three (3) whole followers. Look out, world, I am here and I am about to take the Internet by storm!!!

I would be remiss if I did not take this opportunity to thank everyone who made this moment possible. First I thank God for giving me the desire and the ability to write. Without desire and ability nothing can be achieved. So major props to the Big Guy. I want to thank my husband for his patience when I was writing instead of cooking dinner. I want to thank my children who have encouraged me and continue to encourage me along this journey by saying, "Write, Mom, you can do it." And most of all I wish to thank President Abraham Lincoln for his most important contribution.

The secret of my success

But how did she do it?  I know that is what you are all asking yourselves.  Because I am not selfish in any way, I will share the secret of my success.

First you have to write, write, write.  Write your little hiney off.  Since you are going to be writing a lot, it is a good idea to write about things you know something about.  It is also good to write about things you are interested in.  If you are interested in something but you don't know much about it, do research.  Do the best writing you can, and try to get better as you go along.

Second you have to let everyone know you are writing so they will come and read your stuff.  This is much like writing a book.  Once you have written it you have to let people know it's out there, through various kinds of promotion.  For this, you have backlinks.  That's going out into cyberspace, to the email and social media sites and telling people, "Hey, go read my stuff!"  Well, of course, you would do it nicely, but that's the gist of it.  And you can just tell people by word of mouth and any other way you can think of.

Third you have to connect with others on hubpages.  Make new friends, answer questions, ask questions, read other people's stuff.  Experience the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat.  Learn from others, who have a lot to teach.  Teach what you know.

At least, this is what they tell me.  What do I know?  I just got here!

Where do we go from here?

So what do I do now, heady with success, dripping sweat and speaking Spanish?  Oh, sorry, that was the World Cup.  I guess I will go to Walt Disney World.  But not with my earnings.  No, my penny must stay in the account and be fruitful and multiply.  If Abe clones himself ninety-nine more times, I will get to meet President George Washington.  And then, OMG, the possibilities are astounding. Can my millions be far behind?  The very thought of it...I must pause...

I'm back.  Well, of course, I must continue writing.  The best is yet to come.  Strike while the iron is hot.  Never, never, never, never, never give up.  Go for the gusto.  Forge ahead, carry on, man up, I'm running out of platitudes.  But continue writing--I will.  I have a reason now.  I have motivation.  I have incentive.  I HAVE A PENNY!!!.  And there is more where that came from.

Thank you, that makes two of us. I know it's only a penny, but it was pretty exciting when it popped up.
