My Personal Experience With Netspend/Issued By Metabank

My Experience With Netspend

I got a Netspend card because I needed to provide Planet Fitness with a bank account number and routing number. When you get card, then you get both provided by Metabank. After I signed up, I activated the card, I decided to transfer PayPal funds to my new account, and the prepaid credit card company even gives you instructions on how to do this.

Adding funds To The Card VIA PayPal

Sounds easy enough, but nope. I got a message back saying the bank (I assume Metabank) didn't recognize the account number. No, I didn't mistype anything or anything like that. After performing a quick Google search, it seems like a lot of people have had issues verifying their Metabank/Netspend accounts via PayPal. The funds were returned to my PayPal account.

No Luck Finding Reload Cards

Great, so now I had my money back, but still needed to get money onto the Netspend card so I could pay Planet Fitness. According to Netspend, there are two locations in the area I could go and get a reload card, for Netspend. Sounds easy, but nope. One store didn't even look like they sold Netspend reload cards and the other didn't have any in stock, I assume.

Now What Happens

Now what? Well, now I'll just wait for Planet Fitness to take out my membership fee, and I assume the payment will bounce and then they'll take it from my debit card on file. I have no problem with them doing that.

Also, seeing the issue I had with PayPal, I highly doubt Planet Fitness would have been able to debit my Metabank/Netspend account. By the way, in the pamphlet that Netspend sends out when you first get your card, it says it's fine to setup ACH/Debits using the card.

About Netspend

In case you don't know what Netspend is or Metabank, I'll give you a quick rundown. It is a prepaid debit/credit card that is issued by Metabank. When you signup, you get an account number and a routing number.

It's as simple as that and I'm sure a lot of people use it, but I am not a fan due to my experience. Don't let my opinion stop you from getting a card from them and try it out for yourself. Good luck if you decide to get one of these cards.

Final Thoughts

All in all, the Netspend is not for me. Transferring money from PayPal to the Netspend card should have been a breeze and no issues should have been encountered, so this turns me off to Netspend.

I won't be using it again because I just needed it to join Planet Fitness, which by the way is one of the best gyms I have ever been too. I recommend joining them, but if you want to join them using Netspend, then good luck and let me know if it works for you.
