Passive Income: FREE Ways To Make Money And Get Rich Online

Updated on January 9, 2012

Seriously? Get Rich with Passive Income? What Are the Ways to Make Money?

Ok, let's address "the elephant in the living room". When people hear terms like "get rich" they become skeptical... And for good reason! Anyone who has tried to find legitimate ways to make money online or develop a reliable passive income can vouch for the fact that the internet is full of empty hype that oftentimes will empty your bank account rather than increase it! So, you can put your wallet away. You can easily get started making money online with no cost to you.

Let's deal with a hard reality, right off the bat. 99% of people will not get rich with these ways to make money. The internet isn't an alternative to real life where different principles apply. Just as there are people who have made offline fortunes, there are people who have made online fortunes, as well. It's, frankly, quite rare, but it is possible. What sets the 1% who are extremely successful apart from the 99% who are not is a matter of debate, but it certainly has a lot to do with personal character and drive.

A person can have all the tools they need to build something, and still not end up building it. Building your online business and creating passive income is not a lot different than building a house. You need a blueprint, tools, knowledge and to apply the knowledge skillfully.

If you want to make income at home and get extra cash from multiple income streams, you're going to have to work for it. It's not going to come easy. There is no "magic button". All ways to make money require effort. In fact "making money" isn't really possible unless you're running your own mint. Everyone else has to earn money!

Creating a reliable second income or income streams that will provide passive or residual earnings and "getting rich" are not altogether a different strategy. The difference is largely one of magnitude. In other words, if you can make $1 online, you can make a million. You just need to increase the magnitude of what you're doing.

So with that said, let's focus on ways to earn money online and develop passive income that will get us that first $1, and put us on the path of abundance. First we need to look at some basics about passive income and why it's so important.

What is Passive Income?

InvestorWords tells us that passive income is "Income derived from real estate and business investments in which the individual is not actively involved..."

Examples of this could be renting out a house or collecting dividends on financial investments, but as you can see it can be quite broad. Basically, passive income is income which comes to you at no additional effort than that which was required to establish the income stream to begin with.

Passive income online can be derived from such things as affiliate sales, advertising revenue and network marketing. This is the type of income people are usually referring to when they talk about "making money while you sleep". And in case you're wondering, it is absolutely possible to do so with an online business. Which brings us to...

Why Not Start Right Here?

One of the easiest and quickest ways to make money and start building your passive income streams is by writing for HubPages. You can get started today by doing what I do, and add a reliable secondary income from home.

Signing up is easy and free, and you can join an entire community dedicated to learning and growing together.

What is an Online Business?

Don't like the idea of running a business? Just want to make some extra money in your spare time casually? Well, there's some bad news: You can not make money online without having an online business.

If you do not have a business, you do not have an income stream. This is because, by definition, activities you take for the purpose of earning money are considered to be business pursuits. This doesn't mean that you need to register a business and come up with a fancy name, etc. It does mean that making money online is going to require a shift in consciousness for a lot of people.

In fact, for tax purposes, some governments consider even the intention to earn money from an activity enough to constitute a business. It's important to recognize, legal definitions aside, that to be successful in online money making opportunities, you've got to have a business mindset about what you're doing.

Many people work jobs where they are paid hourly and during those hours, they perform certain tasks for which they receive income from an employer. Usually this type of work structure involves some degree of monitoring or some way of ensuring that meaningful production is taking place during those periods.

The reason many people fail to make money online is that the structure is very different from what they are used to. Nobody will be standing over your shoulder while you write a blog or place an ad or research keywords. You'll have to motivate and monitor yourself. And that might not come easily, especially initially when you will likely not be seeing a fair exchange on the amount of time you're putting into making money online and what it is actually paying you. Not remaining disciplined and persevering through this leads to failure. Be your own boss and demand meaningful production and meaningful pay for your time (and be willing to invest the time and energy necessary to make it happen), and you will succeed.

Tips For Success

  • Set a specific amount of time to work on your secondary revenue streams each day
  • Work that full amount of time consistently so you can gage your progress
  • Track how much money you make each day so you can watch it grow and stay motivated
  • Eliminate negative influences from your life such as nay-sayers
  • Expand your knowledge always. Familiarize yourself with relevant resources.
  • Know why you want to make money online
  • Set goals and reward yourself when you achieve them
  • Network with others and learn from their mistakes and successes
  • Keep statistics on your productivity
  • Work with the best tools you can afford

Why Passive Income?

  • Make money on auto-pilot
  • Earn additional money while at work
  • Earn while you're studying
  • Earn while your sleeping
  • Leverage your effort
  • Create secondary income to offset bills and expenses
  • Get time freedom
  • Build a new work from home career
  • Work less hours at your primary job
  • Ability to quit your primary job once your passive income streams match it's pay
  • One-time effort that continues to pay throughout the rest of your life
  • No cap on possible earnings
  • Escape from the daily grind
  • Work in your pajamas!
  • Spend more time with your family and friends

Legitimate Passive Income Streams

There are a lot of scams out there that prey upon new or curious individuals looking to make money online from home. There are also some very legitimate ways to make passive income that are suited well for people who are looking for extra cash or an online business opportunity.

Let's take a look at some of the most popular methods for getting started with online passive income. Associates

The Amazon Associates program is an affiliate campaign through popular online retail giant It provides up to 15% commission when someone purchases an item you've showcased somewhere on the internet, or from your online Amazon store (called an aStore). It's very easy and quick to sign up for, and provides many people with a reliable passive income.

eBay Partner Network

The eBay Partner Network is popular auction site, eBay's affiliate program. It provides webmaster's with a chance to earn revenue off of traffic they send to the site. The pay is determined by a marginal rate that rewards higher numbers of traffic with a higher rate of pay.

Google AdSense

Google AdSense is the largest advertising delivering platform online. It provides content providers the opportunity to earn money through the display of advertising. The higher the view-count of the webs site or article, the higher the income potential of the program. Signing up for AdSense is easy and the program is integrated into, Google's free blogging platform.

Similar to AdSense and fully compatible with it, Chitika offers payment to publishers for placing advertisements on their sites. The ads are known for their increased relevancy and generally high click-through rates. When the system detects that the available advertisements will not be relevant, it will choose simply not to display one at all. It focuses around enhancing the user's experience rather than distracting from it. Chitika is a very useful way to augment your AdSense earnings.

HubPages provides it's writers a chance to earn passive income through it's own advertisement program, and best of all, it also includes integration with all the programs mentioned above. HubPages is a very realistic way to begin earning online from home, and features a very large, friendly community of authors who are available to provide advice to new users.

Thanks for the post. I've tried them all. Adsense has done well by me. Sadly I live in California so Amazon cut me off. Too bad. Christmas was a great time. Keep the ideas coming.

I am just starting to make a passive income using Squidoo, and just started a self hosted blog. By october, I should be making well over $200 a month online, and if I continue working, I can only achieve more.

(By the way, I found the hub by reading your comment on a MarketinSpiritual blog, and finally getting here. I love your work.)
