Discovering Quirky - The idea social engine for inventive minds

Updated on April 18, 2013

A true to life story of epic proportions

I remember it was 2011 some time and I was in a car repair shop trying to get my cars rear window fixed. You know the time after some massive hail storm just shatters your windows and causes massive havoc for you and your spouse. Well, yup it happened and I was bored there at the repair shop so I decided to grab one of those tech magazines they had there.

I love technology and so this was why this moment will be remembered for the rest of my life. Oh yeah back to the story, Ummm... where was I at. Oh yeah, what all transpired thereafter was pure random luck of the draw.

I was skimming through that magazine as I usually do when I read up on technology, and had run across something there that was quite startling. That something happened to be the master key to unlock my ingunuity I had been storing up for all these years. I found a story about this dude, who started an online enterprise and growing digital empire known as "Quirky".

The most inspirational video ever known to Vimeo in my opinion

The interest deepens:

What was beginning to make that very article so interesting was how he founded the darn thing, and when his idea had come to mind. I had my eyes glued to that article and was over joyed to also find out that such a reality has come to pass for a fellow New Yorker. Yes I'm a writer and author from the boogey down Bronx, or also known as a borough of New York City.

Being born in Queens and raised most of my life in the Bronx, I was over joyed to know that some cool dude, with an extremely inventive mind began his start up venture and succeeded in becoming a online success back in 2009, simply by thinking long and hard while in a crowded NYC train station.

What he had come up with simply by imagining it all to start with on that train, would eventually take ideas shared socially and globally on peoples inventions. To the next level on the world wide web, inventing 322 products being sold worldwide year to date. His online profit venture has turned corporation since 2009, and has amounted 188 retail partners, and 369 thousand community organized inventors, as of the writing of this article. "Impressive!"

Here's some cool success secrets

One huge gamble spawns great success

All this great growth and success came from his head start straight from high school, and with a iPhone accessory company known as Morphie that he also founded using his families second mortgage on their house. (What a gamble)

He is a true prodigy and was the founder of such a tech company that set the stage for this momentous uprising of online social invention & collaboration. This cool guy never imagined himself to get this large in life, and on the Internet, but with bright ideas like his, you just never know. (This dude is full of inspiration, so you might wanna check him out in the video up above if you skipped it "Titled the Quirky Manifesto".)

Crossing the bridge to online fame is a chance in a lifetime

A new age legend is born

I felt like this guys story was the story of legend, and I was living during an age where legends are born. The funny thing is I also heard about another super cool dude named Salman Khan around that time, and his online success story which came to pass as well, and due to him becoming a innovator of online education using Youtube. (True online success techniques using video powers.)

These super success stories always have a way of inspiring people like myself. I was a great hopeful as a young student, I was always looking to either become an inventor, or an engineer someday, and shortly after I took apart my first ever television. As the years blew by, I found myself as a civil engineering student at Manahattan College, and then after not being able to graduate due to lack of funding, I entered the U.S. Military joining the ranks of the armed forces, and in the Navy.

This is being thrown into full view of this article to make a very certain point. You just never know what paths your life is to lead, but something as simple as reading an article in a bookstore, or that of a magazine at lets say a hospital, or any service location. While your waiting idled till the moment has come for you to leap back into motion again, life has the potential to shift directions. You can have your destiny or that of your entire mode of thinking about this life, changed forever.

This has happened to me by the shear motivation and inspiration of a young guy who became a legend in the making, and his name is Ben Kaufman. (25 year old CEO as of 2013 owner of both Quirky and Morphie)

The power of online everything

Digitally we can utilize our smart phones, and mobile gadgets today to make miracles happen. This cool way to connect to the internet has changed our global perspectives and view points entirely and in how we choose to make a living daily or nightly.

Any average person now has at their finger tips the power to create and invent anything they dream up on a moments notice. Due to these online technologies the great hopeful scientist at home and in his basement laboratory can not only dream of getting his idea patented and sold across the world. He can do it from the privacy of his own home now using this idea social engine known as Quirky.

Simply amazing stuff when you think about it, and the buck doesn't stop here. Quirky recently has teamed up and partnered with the universally well known, GE company. This will be the info that is to come loaded and densely packed into the very next hub article, this one is just a primer and intro to the world of online social invention. "We are living in some truly amazing times indeed, where innovative thinking is at the forefront & technology is empowering us all to be brighter!"

Success Comes to those who Invent

The cost for idea submission

If you wish to invent something there, all one must do is sign up, and the cost for submitting ideas to their network for inventions is a mere $10.00.

This is why their company has become such a online success, because they make it a true purpose there, for those who are truly interested in taking their ideas to product. Your ideas there get shared with the social community, and judged by your peers there in the form of digital voting.

They also have a multilevel tier system, where the idea you submitted will get thrust into various phases, if and when selected for product evaluation and eventual mass production. If socially approved and by that of the Quirky staff there, your idea can earn you tons of money and notoriety through their official mass production and marketing campaigns they run both online and through various major shopping stores such as Target, and many others.

@bravewarrior, thanks for the cool comment glad you found it to be interesting and it does look good there, because the GE partnership has some very special things planned, and we need not worry about paying to submit our ideas there. The next hub on this subject will tell the tale in its entirety for sure.

Are you CloudExplorer on Quirky too?

@Austinstar, Yes indeed I joined Quirky like 2 years back and as soon as I read that article I had found, and so far with all my combined efforts of helping other folks there with their ideas I earned a whopping $5.00.

I was hesitant to submit an idea there, only because my income is far to low to invest into it all.

I have planned though to do so soon, and with this new GE partnership on the rise, things look mighty bright, and its the reason why I wrote this very article. I will share the fact about earning by modes of assisting others in my next article, I just wanted to stretch out the info a bit so I could complete both articles back to back.

Thanks for noticing that and for sharing your comment as well as sharing with me. Oh and I'll vote on you.

I have two ideas on Quirky right now! I also did a hub about Quirky. Have you joined? Anyone can sign up with a FaceBook log in and get started. Even if you don't have ideas, you can help develop the ideas of others and even make money doing that.

So everyone, please join Quirky and vote for me :-)
