Eclipse, the Newest Largest Yacht in the World

There's a new "largest privately-owned yacht in the world." She's the 533-ft motoryacht Eclipse, which is owned by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich. The title was formerly held by a boat owned by a fellow from Dubai, whose boat is now about two feet too short.

Abramovich's fortune is reported to be $11.2 billion which makes him the 4th richest Russian and, according to Forbes, the 5oth richest man in the world. He exemplifies the typical post-Glassnost russian capitalist.

Abramovich is twice divorced and had five children by his second wife. He has had a long-time girlfriend, Daria Zhukova a 29 year old graduate of UC Santa Barbara. According to Latitude 38 he lavishes gifts on her including a $50 million painting. They have one child, her first and his sixth. Abramovich was a protege of Boris Yeltsin and currently has what has been characterized as a "favorite son" relationship to Vladimir Putin.

Eclipse spent New Years in St. Barth where Abramovich threw a New Years eve party for 250 of his closest friends including Lindsay Lohan, among other celebrities. .

That is a beautiful yacht, I love the spiral staircases. When you've got the cash, this is a good way to enjoy it and some good experiences.

Ralph: Then I'll have to come back and read it again. Yes, I think communism is long dead in Russia. Guess we'll eventually be reading about corporations insisting on big breaks or not pay their taxes. Like some other country I've heard about <ahem>.

Nice hub Ralph. I wonder how one would become a protege Yeltsin. To be a friend of Putin's would, I imagine be as life changing as being his enemy.

My point was intended to be as much about Russia's wild west style capitalism as about Eclipse. Perhaps I'll expand a bit on this subject. Thanks for your comments.
