The Top 5 Tips Every Amazon Prime Day Shopper Needs to Know!

Updated on July 12, 2017

Amazon Prime Day

The official start of Amazon Prime Day is 9 PM(est) on July 10, 2017 and runs for a full 30 hours! Make sure if you haven't already signed up for your Amazon Prime membership, you'll want do that now!

There are many options to choose from when signing up for your Prime membership. If you have not already used Prime in the past you can sign up for a free 30 day trial. If you decided not to keep it after the sale you can cancel it within the first 30 days with no penalty. Students can sign up for a free 6 month trial , they also qualify for half price yearly memberships. Anyone that does not qualify for the free trials can sign up with a monthly or yearly rate. Amazon is currently offering $20 off a yearly membership in preparation for Prime Day so get it while you can!

Amazon Prime includes unlimited free 2 day shipping, access to millions of movies, books and music tracks as well as discounted devices, subscriptions and many other benefits. Of course you may not always need 2 day shipping which is why they offer you $1-$5 in Amazon credits for choosing standard shipping. Those credits are good for digital goods like games, software, Prime Pantry, eBooks, music, and more!

You can also download the Amazon app to set up notifications for special pricing and lightning sales. Or, if you are like me you can park yourself at your desk top computer all day making it easier to keep an eye on the sales. Switching back and forth through multiple windows can make it so much easier!

Regardless of which platform you decide to use you want to start with the 3 most important aspects of shopping flash sales. First, get your account all set up. Second, set up your shipping and billing profiles and turn on "1-Click" ordering. And third, start prepping your shopping cart!

Tip #1 Early Access!

Voice shoppers will have early access to Prime Day by a full two hours including special deals. Voice Shopping starts at 7 PM(est). To access voice shopping with Alexa just use your Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, Amazon Tap, Echo Show, Dash Wand, Amazon Fire TV, or compatible Fire Tablet device. To use this feature you must be a Prime member with 1-Click ordering enabled. You can also use voice shopping on the Amazon app.

If you do not own one of the devices listed above I would definitely recommend checking them out during this Amazon Prime day as each and every one will be on extreme sale! I purchased my Echo last year and saved a full $50 on it. The prices have all been lowered already so go check them out! My favorite part of the Echo is the ability to play music from multiple places, I prefer to have my Pandora and my kids listen to Spotify, you can also use other apps like Amazon music, iHeartRadio, Tune in and more. And the audio is mind blowing!

Amazon Echo can hear me from another room and recognizes my words every time. I can secure my shopping with a 4 digit pin so my children do not try to get away with any unauthorized purchases. Alexa answers all my questions, reports the news, traffic and weather and will even read audio books to the kids. We have it set up with our lighting and fans and are planning on hooking it up to the thermostat very soon! And there is a so much more she can do. She can control locks, sprinklers, garage doors, and switches. Alexa can even order Domino's and call an Uber!

I'm telling you, you have no idea what you have been missing! Go check it out and I am sure you will want to get one of the devices for your own home. If not, then you will probably order 2 which means you are going to need to write down this code, Echo2Pack, to receive another $100 off of your order. Go ahead, you can thank me later!

Tip #2 - Needs Before Wants!

The most important part of planning a shopping excursion of any sort is to make sure you have the list of things you need before you start loading up your cart with impulse buys! I am sure there is something that you need or have been waiting to purchase for just the right sale. Make sure that item is in your cart and factored into your overall spending before you start looking at all the amazing deals.

For me it is the New 16 GB Fire HD 8. This is something that is already sitting in my cart ready for check out. It is among the first items I will be pressing my 1-Click button for. It is already on sale and waiting to be purchased.

Our last Fire Tablet lasted for quite a while but was left in the car in 90+ degree weather to roast for over a week. It is something that we have done many times before but after a good life, it was just time to say goodbye. My 12 year old boy with autism uses the Fire as a reward when I am not using it myself and it has been a long month of disappointed looks without it. He really loves Alexa and can't wait for our new tablet to arrive. And the sale they have on it right now is just amazing!

The Fire HD is perfect for watching video, movies and playing games. It comes in handy on long car rides with the kids and just relaxing at home surfing the internet. The HD display is vibrant and so clear. They extended the battery life to up to 12 hours which is great for me because I am always forgetting to plug it in. And my son loves using the front and rear facing camera to snap pictures and take selfies every chance he gets! Another huge perk, Prime members have unlimited access to Prime Video which has thousands of TV shows and movies at no additional cost.

Tip #3 Look for Door Busters and Lightning Sales!

Keep your eyes open for all the Door Buster sales that are happening now and are there to not only give you a deal but also to show you that they are not shy about dropping prices. I am kicking myself for purchasing my Archeer Bluetooth Karaoke machine a couple of months ago! It is now listed as one of the door buster deals and is 48% off the original price! I sure missed the mark on that deal.

Honestly, it was totally worth it though and I considered it a great deal when I purchased it for almost double the price and I still do. This karaoke machine is the savior of family night just about every week. Anytime the kids start getting on each others nerves I plug it in and away we go into a singing and dancing frenzy. It comes with 2 wireless Bluetooth microphones. The Bluetooth will connect to any Bluetooth enabled devices like smartphone, tablets, laptops and smart TVs. And if you need to purchase any extra accessories with it they offer you up to a 20% discount if you add them to the original purchase. I would definitely recommend this to anyone, this is a such a great buy I am considering purchasing another one at the reduced price as a gift for a family member.

You also want to keep your eyes on the Lightning Deals. You will find a list of these deals on the Prime Day page and they are available one per customer until the promotional time ends or they are sold out. Don't let the time limit fool you though, these deals rarely ever last until the timer runs down and are usually sold within just a short time after going on sale. They are very time-sensitive and you must complete your order to lock it in.

This is where the 1-Click ordering is top priority. As soon as you see an item you want, order it and complete the 1-Click checkout. You can sign up to watch lightning deals for up to 24 hours before they begin, but keep in mind that everyone else can too, so if there is something you want, set a reminder and get right on it because every minute counts!

Tip #4 Stay Alert!

Amazon said there would be many "amazing TV deals" including on the Element 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV ! I bought a 65 inch full price not long ago and I love it so much that I am going to be getting another one the second it goes on sale. This is something that I have been waiting for. I thought that I was going to have to wait until Black Friday but Amazon has promised jaw dropping deals.

Word around the internet is that the Element 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV is going to be one of the best deals and I am ready to jump as soon as it starts. I am going to let the best deal tell me whether to go with a 50, 55 or another 65 inch. Regardless of what size is purchased I know that this is a TV that I already love. The screen has such clarity that you just throw yourself into the viewing experience completely. There are thousands of apps and channels to keep you busy including all of the popular streaming services. And my favorite part of all, the Alexa Voice Remote! That's right, couch surfing just got easier! Now you can simply tell Alexa to fast forward, rewind or play live TV, change the inputs and even play music! And keep in mind that Prime members still get that unlimited access to Prime Video that I told you about earlier!

There are quite a few other items that I have put in my shopping cart already. Some items may not go on sale and some might, I just wanted to be prepared and give myself a starter list. But I will be sitting here with my eyes locked on the screen for the majority of the sale to make sure that I get my hands on those amazing deals that I would be a fool to pass up just so I can pay full price later on down the road when I inevitably talking myself into buying something.

Tip #5 Know Your Budget!

I have to tell you that tip #5 is the most important tip of all. You want to make sure you set a budget, memorize that budget and stick to it no! Although, you always want to leave a little gap for impulse buys you want to make sure that you aren't going to far. Consider this a disclaimer with absolutely no legal reasoning other than to make sure that my fellow Prime shoppers acknowledge keep to their limits.

I suggest that you sit down and make a plan for the items that you are definitely going to purchase and then scope out the other deals going on. If anything catches your eye just add it to your list. Make sure that you leave that buffer for the unknown purchases that are just such great deals you would be a fool to turn down!

Just be proactive with your planning and you will have a fabulous Amazon Prime Day! Don't forget to click on the link at the bottom of the page to go sign up for the free 30 days of Prime if you haven't already. Have fun and get those amazing deals!

What are you looking forward to purchasing?
