If you are on a tight budget or just like to get things for free, knowing where to find free things online is a great way to save money and take advantage of the multitude of items that are offered for free. Whereas in the past, finding free things was done either by networking with frugal friends or just plain luck, the Internet puts the power to find free things in everyone’s hands, you just need to know where to look to find free things online. Finding free things online is not as hard as many people believe it is. It just requires some effort and time dedicated to searching out and learning about for free things being offered online every day.

Where To Find Free Things Online That Companies Offer Every Day

It might seem too good to be true, but the reality is that companies offer free things online every day. They don’t offer free things online because they are foolish or are just in a giving mood, offering free things online is a proven and effective way of advertising products, building good public relations, and gaining lifelong customers. Many people are reluctant to try new or different products; however, when the cost of trying something new or different is “free”, it’s not so hard for people to give them a try.Companies hope that once you try their products, you will become a regular and returning customer.

The following websites are good places to start looking for free things companies are giving way online.Don’t forget to also check your favorite retailer’s website, either national or local, to see if they have any free giveaways that you can sign up for online or if they have a way of registering with them, so they can send you freebies as they become available, such as birthday giveaways.

Try Freecycle Or Similar Sites To Find Free Things Online

Websites that offer free things online are not necessarily motivated by advertising or public relations agendas, some are driven by environmental concerns and a desire to keep things out of landfills by finding people who can reuse something that would otherwise be thrown away. They operate on the principle that one man’s (or woman’s) junk is another man’s (or woman’s) treasure. Just because someone does not need something anymore, it does not mean that it is ready to be thrown in the trash and added to a landfill. People have many reasons for getting rid of things that are in perfectly good condition.

The leading website for connecting those with free things to give away with those that need free things is The Freecycle Network™, which is comprised of over 5,000 local organizations throughout the world with over 9 million registered members. All you need to do to start finding and obtaining free things online through The Freecycle Network™ is to visit their website http://www.freecycle.org/, find a local Freecycle group in your area, and register with that group. You will be sent emails periodically that list free things being offered in your area. You contact the person offering the free things online via the local Freecycle group to make arrangements to take a look at and pick up the free things being offered, if you find them suitable.

Finding Free Things Online

Be Careful of Scams When Looking For Free Things Online

It is important to be cautious about giving out personal information when looking for free things online. While it may be necessary to register with a website to obtain free things online, keep in mind that Internet scammers know getting people to register for free things online is an easy way to obtain personal information, so they can use it for fraudulent purposes. If in doubt, do not give out any personal information.Do some background checking on websites that you are trying to obtain free things online through, and only deal with reputable ones. The same goes for registering with websites to be eligible to be sent freebies on your birthdays or whenever they are offering something for free.If you stick to reputable name brand websites, you will lessen your chances of being a victim of identity fraud. It is also a good idea to run a program such as Malwarebytes (malwarebytes.org/) that runs in the background while you surf the Internet for free things online and alerts you if you have clicked on a website that is known to be untrustworthy.

Did someone say, "Free?" My favorite concept. It's great to know this site exists. Thanks for the info. I'm a huge fan of recycling, reusing and revamping. It's GOOD for everyone and our environment. Thanks John. Merry Christmas!

Shell, I'm glad you've found freecycle useful. The company I work for had a ton of office equipment to get rid of recently. In the old days it would have gone straight to the landfill, but thanks to freecycle it found new homes with people that could really use the equipment that was being given away. A win win! Thanks for stopping by!

I am a huge fan of freecycle! I gave away many things on the site, as well as received many items. I moderated a local group for a while to pay it forward, and have led many toward using the sites so we can keep stuff out of the dump. I have made some great friendships through trading with people and giving away things instead of throwing them away or donating them to goodwill. I prefer to know they are going to people who will use them than to just give them away and have them sit in a store.

I look forward to checking out some of the other resources you share here!

      Have a great night. ~Shell

Hi John~ I really like this hub. Very informative! I particularly like how you caution the reader about scams since there are so many out there that can take your money and time without a blink of an eye. I am always keeping my eye out for the online freebies (Just got a box of Airborne samples yesterday) Great job. Voted up and shared.--Lisa♥
