Where to get a Cheap Haircut

Updated on March 19, 2018

Cheaper Haircuts

Haircuts can be great, they can make you feel like a more well groomed, together person. But they are so expensive that very few of us actually get our haircut as much as we should. And that's nobody's fault because with a haircut averaging at around £40 in the UK, who can afford to get that done every 4 weeks? Certainly not me.

But there are ways you can get your haircut on the cheap and look great for much less.

Trainees

A lot of people shy away from letting "unqualified" people cut their hair, but in a salon or training college, the trainees will always be supervised, they have to for insurance and health and safety reasons! So there will always be a qualified person nearby if you feel uncomfortable at any point. And if you do feel uncomfortable, someone else will take over.

And because they are trainees, the college or salon will charge a lot less, it may take a little bit longer, but that's better than them rushing it! I got my hair cut once at a local college and it cost me £3.75 for a wash, dry, cut and straighten and it was without a doubt one of the best haircuts I have ever had! The young woman cutting my hair was attentive, careful and really professional, I have been to qualified people who were not as good as her.

Look for salon training days or the website of your local college to see if they offer haircuts from trainees at a discounted price, some places will offer the cut for free as it gives the trainees a chance to practice!

Friends

Do you know someone who is good at cutting hair? Ask them to do it for a reasonable price, you can work it out between the two of you. And You will be able to get a decent haircut for a decent price. Even if you are friends, always offer to pay them, they will probably say no, but it's only polite to offer.

And don't take liberties, don't ask for a really complicated style or a perm or something and offer them £5 for their trouble. Offer a reasonable amount that will cover their costs.

Cut Your Own Hair

This isn't for everyone, I have done it a few times and the results have always been a bit hit and miss. But if you pay attention to tutorials or articles by people that have done it before (and done it well) then you should be able to get a good result for absolutely free. All you will need is a decent pair of scissors and a few clips. Go slowly and take small amounts off at a time. Remember, you can always take more off, you can't put it back on!

My wife does the back of my hair now so that the ends are straight and I take care of the rest.

You Can Get a Cheap Haircut

Getting a haircut doesn't need to cost the earth, you can easily get a haircut for much less than the average person pays!

That must be very frustrating, that is why I gave up the hairdresser, paying a fortune for a cut I hate was getting on my nerves!

I cut my own hair and used to cut family members very often, did my mom's perms and all that. Harder now to cut my own but I have the very worst luck getting cuts to satisfy me from someone else, even taking a photo to show them. I have good hair, no idea why that is since over the years I have been to so many places. My wedding day was a nightmare and I had to redo it myself.

That's fair enough, I do my own fringe too, and now my wife does mine and I do hers, saves a fortune!

Lol, that picture is funny. If I do cut my own hair, it's only my fringe I'd do, never the back. But my stepmother usually cuts my hair for me when it needs doing. I've not been to the hairdressers in years!
