Why You Need To Be Saving Money

Updated on August 4, 2012

Saving Money Is Not An Option

One thing that people have a hard time doing is saving money. Spending our paycheck as soon as we get it is a hard habit to break. It is understandable that you want to spend your hard earned money. However, you should learn how to save a portion of it. Even if you don't have a lot of money, you need to get in the habit of saving whatever you can. It is the only way to ensure your financial stability.

Plan For Emergencies Ahead Of Time

The best reason to save money is because you never know when an emergency will strike. The only thing that you can take for granted is that you will run into an emergency at some point in your life. When you get a flat tire or have to go the ER, that is not the time to wish that you had savings to fall back on. This is why you should start planning now in the event something happens. You will be happy that you did.

Earn Interest On Your Savings

You can make money when you put your money into a savings account. This is because many accounts will earn you interest. Put your money into a savings account, or into a 401K plan to spur long-term gains from your savings. Putting money into a 401k account can even reduce your taxes for the coming tax year. Keep in mind that your savings account is FDIC insured up to $250,000. Earning money without working for it makes saving your money an attractive option.

Live A Frugal Lifestyle

Putting your money in the bank means you won't be tempted to spend it. A lifestyle that favors thrift will encourage you to think about what you are spending your money on.

After a period of a few months, you will begin to think frugally without it being much of an issue. Saving your money will start to give you the same thrill as you used to get when you spent it. Having cash on hand means you don't need to use a credit card.

Remember that your kids look up to you and learn your habits. Being frugal with your money will teach your kids that it is important to be smart with your money. Teaching your kids the value of a dollar is the greatest gift that you can give them.

Saving Equals Freedom

Saving is never a bad thing, nor will it ever go out of style. When you learn how to save, you give yourself a level of financial freedom that you have never experienced before. Avoiding credit allows you to avoid interest rates that go along with it. Avoiding too much spending will keep you out of debt and allow you to live the life you always wanted to.
