How to Save on Groceries Without Using Coupons

Updated on September 20, 2018

Are you looking for a way to save money on groceries?
Are you tired of clipping coupons?

Well you have come to the right place. I am a mom of 6 kids that range from ages 7 months to 11 yrs old. Its also my husband and I. So I have to shop on a budget from groceries to household products. Although I still use coupons time to time, when I'm not rushing to get out of the store lol. I must admit, sometimes using coupons can get a bit frustrating. You may ask how? Well for starters, some of the cashiers hate it when customers come in with coupons. They feel that its either too much or they are just being lazy to just scan coupons. Here's how you can still save on groceries without using coupons.

  • First: You will need to figure out how often you want to shop. You can either choose to shop every week, every two weeks, or once a month. Also you will need to figure out your spending budget.
  • Once you figure that out you are ready to create a grocery list. Your list should include meals you will be preparing for the week or weeks you will shop. By that I mean, if you will be shopping every week you should, write down the meals you will be making that week and the items you will need to prepare that meal. Just as if you were shopping every two weeks or a month. Have your meals down and the items you will need to make them.
  • Now you want to look online or in a sales paper for the stores you shop at to see if there are great deals and sales. If there are a great sale going on at one of the store or stores you shop at, you will want to write that down. Don't focus on name brand items because they are all the same. So if the store brand product is cheaper grab those items. Also if there is a BOGO deal and it seems like a steal...go for it.
  • After you have planned your meals, wrote down the items you will be using for the meals, and you have your spending budget. Its time to go to the store and shop. Bring your grocery list, a pen, and a calculator. Of course you will need the pen to scratch off items you've gotten and the calculator to keep track of your spending.

Tips: Always go into the store with a challenge. Challenge yourself to get only the items on your list and keeping your spending budget as is. Never go over budget.

When you are keeping track of your spending and you see that you have went over budget then you need to make a few changes. Think of a cheaper meal.

For example: If you were cooking beef steaks with asparagus but that meal cost $18.00 then you might want to think of having hot dogs with french fries. A very easy and cheap meal.
