When I had a large family I would stretch the meat budget by cooking casseroles and stir-fries, and since the kids liked to drink a lot of soda I would buy the store brand. Also, when I shopped for groceries I used coupons and took advantage of the store sale items. To cut down on clothing expenses, the older kids often passed on their outgrown clothes to the younger ones. Instead of going to the movies we would watch a rented video. For family fun we would have picnics or play indoor board games. I always made sure the kids were clean, well groomed, happy and well nourished. One doesn't have to spend a lot of money on frills to get by and still be happy and satisfied.
