It really depends on the person.
Not everyone is afraid to die. Many folks have risked their lives to save loved ones. In fact it has been reported more people are afraid to do public speaking before a large group than to die.
Courage is about facing your fears.
Some people are really afraid of living!
To know if it took courage to commit suicide you'd have to know why the person wanted to end their life. Were they happy with everything they'd accomplished and were just ready to go? Did they lose a loved one whom they found it unbearable to live without? Are they dying anyway and just wanted to be "in control" of how their life ends? or Were they found guilty of some crime and was about to face life in prison and chose death instead?
I also believe some people simply get "tired" of living. It's not so much that they're "depressed" as much as having the feeling that they've seen it all and done it all. Life holds no more surprises/mysteries. They may view death as the next big adventure. They're attracted to the "unknown".
