I think making the tax accountants and lawyers rich is a by-product of our terrible tax code. Greed, pork barrel needing financing, welfare, warfare, bailing out banks out of control, sending money to ungrateful countries overseas, just a few little products of overpopulation have added to the creation of a horrific tax code, and it is partly due to overpopulation. People cost money to keep, feed, house, protect, and police.
Some people will disagree with me and say that this country has room for lots more people, but large countries with really big populations have had them controlled by Communism or other force (remember Gengis Khan from history).
I think it is time for a tax overhaul, but yet, the thought scares me as to what that would do. Some unthinking people think a flat-rate tax would be ideal, but they don't realize that without the deductions for special expenses like handicapped children, elder care, blindness, education, household expenses (1040A), etc., most of our tax rates would triple. Ten percent of, let's say a waitress or clerk's salary of $20,000 a year is $2,000. Ten percent of a person making $500,000 thousand a year is $50,000. Now $50,000 sounds like a lot of money, but who would miss the 10% the most? The waitress would have only $18,000 a year minus state, local, and FICA taxes, while the other person would still have $450,000 a year minus state, local, and FICA, which caps out at a certain income level.
I think we should simplify the tax code, but lets keep the accountants working. (No, I'm not an accountant or lawyer, nor do I have one in the family.)
