Should the government eliminate the income tax?
Either it's patriotic to pay a percentage of your earnings, or it's a punishment for working.
Income tax is theft
Take the US military budgets that's 50% of the worlds total war budget. Reducing it to 4% like everyone else in the world. Solve American financial problems because war solves nothing.

Seems like the US isn't first. Or second or third or fourth. Not even 8th.

Sure. I think they should. Then, of course, they'd need to replace the revenues that would be lost with a tax of a different kind. You can't maintain the most powerful military in the world without some form of tax revenue. So they'd need to take whatever amount of revenue lost from income taxes and just add it back on to the backs of the people in some form of flat tax.
There's no getting out of taxes ya know. Neither death.
No, as it helps the government to develop your country and ultimately helps you to raise your standard of living.
I understand what you are saying but we have to think this through to the end result. The government waives all income tax. Suddenly there is no revenue, no medicare, no medicaid, no government benefits of any kind, no armed services and the list goes on.
As citizens of this country - we have to do our share. Now is that share fair? Not necessarily. I do think the tax code needs revamping so there is more fairness across the board such as a flat or consumption tax.
The question of whether the government should eliminate income tax is a complex and debated issue with varying opinions. Here are some perspectives on both sides:
Arguments in Favor of Eliminating Income Tax:
Economic Stimulus: Some argue that eliminating income tax could stimulate economic growth by putting more money in the hands of consumers, leading to increased spending and investment.
Simplified Tax System: The current income tax system is often criticized for being complex and difficult to navigate. Eliminating it could simplify the tax system, making it more transparent and efficient.
Individual Freedom: Advocates for eliminating income tax often argue that it's a matter of personal freedom. Citizens should have the right to keep the entirety of their earnings without government intervention.
Incentive for Work: Without income tax, individuals may feel more motivated to work and earn higher incomes, as they would be able to retain all of their earnings.
Arguments Against Eliminating Income Tax:
Government Revenue: Income tax is a significant source of revenue for governments, funding public services and infrastructure. Eliminating it could lead to a reduction in funds for essential programs.
Wealth Inequality: Critics argue that eliminating income tax could exacerbate wealth inequality, as the burden of financing government services would likely shift to other forms of taxation that may disproportionately affect lower-income individuals.
Public Services: Income tax funds various public services such as education, healthcare, and social welfare programs. Eliminating it without an alternative revenue source could jeopardize the provision of these services.
Fair Contribution: Some see income tax as a way for citizens to contribute to the common good based on their ability to pay. Without it, there may be concerns about whether the wealthy are contributing their fair share to society.
In reality, most countries rely on a mix of taxes, including income tax, to fund government operations. The debate often centers around finding the right balance between taxation and economic incentives while ensuring that the government has the necessary resources to fulfill its responsibilities. Whether income tax is viewed as patriotic or punitive depends on one's perspective on the role of government and the principles of taxation. Source by https://southafricanvatcalculator.co.za/

I want to get people's views on this. The thread's inspired by comments I've seen from people in and outside of this forum that suggest taxes are theft. The idea goes: if the government forces people to pay taxes (under threat of imprisonment) then they are essentially stealing people's money by...

Would you support a flat 15% income tax?Would you support a flat 15% income tax in this country? Other than a personal deduction (possibly in the neighborhood of 25k per individual/50k per couple) there would be no deductions.
