Find an Estate Sale or Tag Sale a great activity for this weekend!

Updated on April 9, 2013

What is an Estate Sale?

We've all heard of garage sale or yard sale, it's when you go through all the stuff you have and decide there are items you don't want to keep so you place it out in the driveway and sell it off. This could be fun but it's also a lot of work. An estate sale is a little different. Estate Sales are often mistaken for "stuff is on sale because someone died". Although that might be true sometimes, it's not true all the time. An Estate sale involves hiring an Estate Sale coordinator that is experienced and involved in the antique and consignment business to properly price every item in the home instead of just items that are not wanted. Estate sales take place when someone passes away, they have to move out of their home or downsize for whatever reason.

Attending an estate sale could be quite enjoyable, you actually get to walk through an entire home and look at items placed in the home ready to be purchased. You can actually find great deals and wonderful rare items you wouldn't be able to find in retail because the items have been retired and you wouldn't find them in yard sales or garage sales because most people end up keeping valuable items and not sell them.

When you ask many people that attend estate sales what they enjoy the most, the majority will respond "The Hunt", this is actually true because every home you walk into can have a variety of items, all depending on what the home owner was collecting. Estate Sales don't only have antiques and collectibles, many new useful items can be found, and in today's economy when all of us are watching our pennies, it's not a bad idea to save a little on some very useful every day items.

There are many Estate sales online that offer items for sale originating from estate sales. Search your local newspaper, call a friend and partner up on a weekend to go out, get a cup of coffee and visit the local estate sales.

Be careful of getting addicted to this fun weekend activity, estate sales, now called tag sales have become quite popular amongst the public, one popular Orange County Estate Sale and Consignment company has a huge following of over 300 people that just wait for them to conduct an estate sale. Luckily they have a consignment store in Orange County, a huge wearhouse where many of the items end up on consignment if not sold during the Estate Sale. I am one of their fans on Facebook and I follow their sales like you wouldn't believe, guess you could say I'm addicted.

So if you're just sitting around wondering what you should do this weekend, why not try something new, grab a friend, find an estate sale and enjoy a new great activity this weekend.

I know...I love it! For my area I only go to the orange county company I mention, they're the nicest ever because I found so many mean grumpy ones when I went to other estates...I find the coolest stuff ever!

Estate sales can be fun since, unlike the mall, you never know what you may find. We've found useful bargains like vacuum cleaners, and rare items like old baseball cards. The "hunt" is definitely what makes it fun.
