Updated on June 12, 2017

Authorities have released information regarding the case of Kiaya Campbell. Police have arrested the the 15-year-old son of Kiaya' s father's girlfriend. At this time he is being held in the Adams county juvenile detention center pending investigation on first-degree murder charges. The official cause of death has yet to be released, but two different memorials will be held on Sunday.

Kiaya went missing.

Kiaya was reported just before midnight on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 by her older sister, when she failed to return home from a trip to a corner Mart. Authorities claim that Kiaya was in the company of her father's girlfriend's 15-year-old son, who claims the two got separated when it began to downpour. However, neighbors don't recall if it was raining that night.

The search for Kiaya began.

Volunteers were searching the area within a few miles radius, when one volunteer happened upon the remains of what appeared to be that of a child, approximately one mile from where the child's father resided. It was not immediately known if the remains were that of the missing child, however, the remains have since been positively identified as Kiaya Campbell as of Friday.

At this point authorities have met with the child's family, and no one has been arrested at this time. No official cause of death has been release as of the time of this writing, however, the coroner stated that the child's death was less than accidental. This case remains an open investigation, and this article will be updated as more information is released.
