2012-What Will it Bring?

Updated on December 12, 2011

Any Resolutions or Wishes?

Each New Year, people make resolutions; some are kept and others ignored, but always, the New Year feels like a new beginning. Have you begun to consider any New Year resolutions, or perhaps made any wishes for 2012?

So far, I only have one resolution, but wishes…well that is another story. Just for a moment, imagine genies are real and you have rubbed a magic genie bottle. What would you wish for if you had three wishes for the upcoming year?

Since pretending is one of my favorite things to do, I played this game with myself. Under most fantasy circumstances, my wishes would be for material things, but this time, even in my imagination, I couldn’t make wishes for me. It seems the whole world is in a state of unrest, anxiety and frustration and disparity is staggering. On a planet where tens of thousands of children die daily, purely from lack in a world full of wealth, thinking of myself seems wrong, so my wishes are for humanity. Rub, rub, rub...come out of there genie! You have a big job to do!

Wish 1.

Everyone everywhere would have enough. What I mean by this statement is that everyone would have enough food to eat, clean water to drink and shelter from the elements. Basic healthcare and education would be available to all people. Everyone would have skills to do something of value to support their family and community.

Wish 2.

The entire world would live in a peaceful co-existence. If all people lived this way, war would only have a place in history books; violence and strife would be a thing of the past and corruption would be non-existent. Imagine how efficient our political system would be! It would work for all people, for money would have no power. Politicians would be honored to serve their country and would once again work for the betterment of mankind.

Wish 3.

Everyone would live a life of service. If we all felt the need to be of service, selfishness and greed would not exist; we would all be willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need and would see to it that no one suffers. Life would not be based in the ego, but in humility and gratitude.

IMAGINE a world of people who appreciate and revere our planet for being the living, breathing source of our very existence. IMAGINE available clean water for all, clean air and food that is safe and free from harmful chemicals. IMAGINE our energy coming from the planets natural, sustainable elements. IMAGINE a world where everyone is free and prejudice does not exist. IMAGINE money being used for fair trade rather than for control, and power being back in the hands of the people, rather than in the governments and mega corporations. IMAGINE feeling totally safe. As John Lennon sang so beautifully, “You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one. I hope someday you’ll join us and the world will be as one.” These things may not happen immediately, but they will never happen if we don’t IMAGINE them and do our part to make them happen.

My one New Year’s resolution is to achieve one of my favorite quotes, “Be the change you want to see.” In 2012, I hope we all say NO to the fear of the unknown, and YES to doing our parts to make the world a better place. The ego will always keep us in fear, but the heart will always keep us in love. Light over darkness is my choice and I would enjoy some company on this walk into 2012! Will you join me?

thank you SubRon7. Appreciate you taking the time to visit. Just remembering the words of Christ and attempting to live that way will help.

Strangely enough, Picklesandrufus, as I read trough your hub I started to think about John Lenin's song "Imagine." I don't want to discourage you because I'm sure you are a warm and honorable woman, and those three wonderful wishes, well, they certainly cover everything. But I'm afraid the only way they will come about would be you find a real genie, or Jesus Christ returns. But don't give up hope. I'll remember your wishes and, for your sake and your loved ones, and the rest of the good people in the world, I hope you can begin to make your wishes happen.

Hi Ronnie, thanks for stopping by. Yes, there will always be variations in social and financial comfort..just doesn't have to be the way it is here and now, but we all must want a more equitable system for it to change....still working on my genie! Appreciate your comments.

      pickles,

All your wishes are honorable; the trouble is we would have to exist in a utopian environment, which apparently is not evident. There will always be variations, as in social and financial comfort. Each side rationalizes its existance by there growth environment, with few exceptions, as in generosity or intellect dispite growth environment.

LOVE this, Sheila! My wishes, too! So much more eloquently stated than I would have though! I will continue to hope for and "imagine" them! Wouldn't it be wonderful to have these come true?!

thank you for taking the time to read Donna!

Ivona...I think you are on to something, and I also think more people are beginning to realize the positive influence of women in business and politics.

Very inspirational hub. Is it achievable? I'll play devils advocate here: british equalities minister says we're in this mess because of men: perhaps if women ruled the world?

you are probably right Ronnie, but we must try. A brief breeze that is recognized by the heart is all it takes to start a change in consciousness.

      pickles,

John Lennon's imagine was so pleasing to hear, I bought it on CD and in print. I can't help thinking we are in the minority. Stating our wishes probably makes the public sense a brief breeze, feeling comfortable or harsh depending on their situation.
