Poverty Can be Overcome -- A Prayer for Financial Blessings

Updated on December 8, 2015

Evidence of Poverty in the United States
Based on statistics(on Income and Poverty in the United States: 2013), released by the U.S. Census Bureau, in 2013, there were 45.3 million people in poverty.

When we compare genders, interestingly, not only were the rates of poverty among females higher, but also, for individuals aged 65 and older, the rates were even more pronounced.

Evidence of Poverty in My Community
A few weeks ago as I was about to enter a Coffee Shop, an older gentleman who was standing at the door asked me if I could buy him a cup of coffee. I felt somehow it was my duty to help another human-being who is in need(do unto others as I would like them do unto me),so I did.

The following day, on my way to work, I stopped by the Post Office to purchase a book of stamps. Just across from the Post Office(at this church building),I noticed that there were several people standing in a line. I overheard one old lady telling another younger lady that these people were all waiting to collect free food.

The crowd appeared to be evenly mixed. There were men and women of all ages, waiting in this long line. At a glance, I could see the worried and desperate look on the faces of some of these folks, as they waited patiently for their turn.

How Concerned Am I
I thought about this the issue of poverty all throughout the day -- while I was work -- and was honestly saddened by it. First, it was this guy who wanted me to treat him to a cup of coffee and then this long line of people waiting patently for a donation of food. I said to myself, I want to do something to help as much people as I can, in whatever ways that I can!

One of My Ways of Trying to Help
Because I strongly believe in the “miracle of prayer”, as soon as I got home that night, I decided to write/record this prayer, for anyone who might be experiencing a rather difficult time --financially, or is currently living in dire poverty. I encourage them to repeat these same words to God, and just have the faith that He will transform their situation.

A Prayer For Financial Help

Words to a Prayer for Urgent Help

Dear Heavenly Father, You see my needs, my sorrows, and my pain,
it's been a long time since I have been praying, crying, begging and besieging for help.
There are times when I feel so exhausted -- drained from my relentless moaning and groaning;
sometimes by pillow is so soaked with tears,
my eyes so swollen from crying,
and my knees so achy from kneeling crying out to You for urgent help,
but I refuse to let go.
In fact, I come to You yet another moment almighty
God to present You with all my needs -- not my wants!
Please listen to the voice of my plea.
Hear the urgent cry of a desperate person
who has no one else to turn to -- other than You.
I choose You because I trust in You only to take care of my dire needs.
Just give me the strength to face another day,
as I patiently wait upon You! Thank You Lord …Amen.

Thanks MsDora. You're are indeed correct. If we aren't in a position to give a buck or two to the poor, and destitute ones, we can at least offer a simple prayer!

With regard to the coffee story, I wish I could have done more. Do you know that of the 10 largest cities in the nation, Philadelphia has the highest rate of poverty? The sad thing about it is that I started a "Cause" to help address this dilemma, just a few weeks ago, but so far, I don't think a single person even look at it. God bless you and have a good night.

Amen to the Prayer. Prayer is something we can always offer on behalf of the needy, and of course other kind deeds like buying coffee for man who asked. Thanks for dealing with this important topic.
