A precious life

Updated on September 20, 2013

The little girl with a dream

I believe there are truly special people in the world who do make a difference with their visions, their dreams and their efforts and they do it out of the goodness of their heart without expecting anything in return. Many of these people's actions go unnoticed but it does not make a difference to them because they act out of kindness and want no adulation or special notoriety. They just want to help someone in need to hopefully ease their suffering and restore their hope. Sadly there are many people including children starving and dying in the world who have very little to eat and no clean running water. They are the ones who need others to speak for them and to take up the fight on their behalf to bring them the basics so they can have a chance to survive and flourish in their village. They have basic needs that most of us take for granted and only a few recognize this and take the action necessary to do their part in helping these less fortunate. The kindness and selflessness of those who lend a helping hand should be recognized for they are indeed helping to save lives and restoring promise and hope to so many who desperately need it.

Every now and then you will be touched by a story that will warm your heart and at the same time make you cry. I was very touched by a story of a nine year old girl from Washington state who had a dream and a wish to help those less fortunate. She wanted to help bring clean water to African villages where so many children die before their 5th birthday because they have very little food and they contract illnesses from unsanitary drinking water supplies. She asked her family and her friends to donate money to an organization involved in this very cause. The name of the organization is charity:water and they are bringing hope to villages and communities that are in desperate need of clean drinking water and a much needed infrastructure. She created her own personal page that links to the charity and she started her campaign to help raise funds in lieu of birthday presents. Her wish which was tied in to her 9th birthday simply was to raise $300.00 before her 9th birthday to help this charity in its mission to bring clean drinking water to help these communities in need so their children would have a chance to live to see their 9th birthday too.

This little girl, Rachel is a little angel who was very special and very caring in her noble cause. She fell short of her goal but somehow she has created something more far reaching than she could have ever imagined that has taken on a life of its own in her memory and she has touched so many in the process in spirit. Sadly Rachel was the victim of a multi car accident that occurred on July 20, 2011 as she was out with her mom on I-90 when a semi-truck jackknifed colliding with a logging truck that set off a chain reaction of accidents that eventually claimed her life at the very tender age of 9 years old. News of her death set in motion an outpouring of sympathy, well wishes and contributions to her page for the cause she had created to help those in need. She leaves behind a legacy that to date has raised over $800,000.00 and continues to grow and has far surpassed her once ambitious goal of $300.00. Little did she know that her simple wish would become her lasting legacy as her life that was filled with so much promise was tragically cut short.

No one knows why tragedies like these occur and why young children have to die so young. It is very sad and makes you realize how precious our children are and how life is something that should never be taken for granted. Little Rachel has done something truly wonderful and though she is no longer with us she has truly touched us all in her kindness and compassion in helping others. She leaves behind her mom and dad and family who are broken hearted and trying to find the courage to go on in her absence. They have heavy hearts and are drawing upon their daughter's beautiful spirit for inspiration to continue her campaign to help those in need which is something they realize she would want. I pray for little Rachel who has certainly earned her wings and is in Heaven now and for her family to have the strength and courage to go on and to carry on her legacy which is going a long way to help so many. She is truly a very special little girl and the world is a far better place because of her humanity and certainly we all mourn her loss and are grateful for her compassion and her spirit that lives on to serve others. I will make my donation to her cause and I believe we all should be thankful for the miracle she has set in motion out of the goodness in her heart. May Rachel rest in peace and know she truly has made a difference in her short but beautiful life in helping so many. God Bless little Rachel, her family and her cause.

To go to the ends of the world

      to help a stranger

      To give someone incredible kindness

      they will never forget

To treat animals and all of nature

      with respect and compassion

These are the things that give life true purpose.

      To value your special uniqueness

as a beautiful child of God

      To elevate your mind

with the higher value of integrity

      To upgrade your living environment

planting seeds to enrich the soul

To give a child caring devotion

so they feel they are loved

      To rise above your circumstances

with faith in the power of God

And with the purity of healing love

      in your heart

your life will know no boundaries.

Thank-you so much for sharing. It's heartbreaking to know that there are so many children who need to be helped.

Thousands of precious children die each day for lack of water and food. Even in the richest nation in the world, The U.S.A., children go to bed hungry. If we can't do something for our children as simple as give them clean water to drink, what hope is there for our civilization and our planet? Save the children. We have to try. Peter
