American Chicanery

Updated on September 8, 2014

By: Wayne Brown

So Attorney General Eric Holder “does not know who did what” with regard to the AP phone taps announced this week. He just knows that “it’s not his fault”. Oh, so Mr. Holder…you want to be the leader; the man in charge but you do not want to be responsible for the actions of those under your direction…is that about the way it is with you? All you desire is the power to push and shove the weight of the federal government behind the badge of the Attorney General but you want no accountability when things turn sour.

That seems to be the running theme of those in high positions in the Obama Administration including the president himself. Holder has the audacity to say that he “recused himself from the AP case over one year ago.” Oh yeah…well, why are we just now finding out that the problem existed. If Mr. Holder knew there was an issue why was his first action to recuse himself if not for the benefit of his own career preservation? This man is the head of the department of justice and a case of illegal wire-tapping has been allowed to languish in his department for over a year now? All the president can say is that he still has faith in Eric Holder’s leadership…have we lost our mind?

Obama has detached himself from the economy, from the failed stimulus, from the nightmare of ObamaCare, from the bankruptcy of green industries with billions of government dollars in their pockets, from Fast N’ Furious, from Benghazi, and now he wants to throw the temporary director of the IRS under the bus…the man who was leaving in June of this year anyway and call it all even on the IRS shenanigans. This man is not governing nor is he accepting any accountability for the actions of those he appoints to carry out the work of the government. These things are happening on his watch; he is ultimately accountable for the actions of his administration yet time and again he is allowed to slide by those in elected positions and the media.

How much does one administration have to mess up before something sticks to their sides? Do we really believe that some low-level types in the IRS dreamed up this whole fiasco to suppress conservative organizations on their own…gone totally rogue in the interest of promoting liberal agendas without some direction from those in high places? Do we really believe that as a people? If we do, then we are certainly capable of buying swampland or building bridges to nowhere. The IRS situation and the AP situation are both strong examples of political meddling through the use of government power and when the jig is up, they throw the little people under the bus and cry for forgiveness in their oversight. How many coincidences can we have of this nature before it becomes apparent that it is not the little people doing these things but simply the little people following the instructions which they have been given?

The fox has been in the henhouse, no doubt, and on more than one occasion. They evidence is everywhere with feathers all about and likely there is much more to be had if we can get the chickens talk under oath for fear of their jobs. Instead, the fox had rather you put better locks on the henhouse and not turn the dogs out to track him down. He swears that it won’t happen again…the hens were just too lax and things got out of hand quickly. It’s fixed now.

Of course, every day that goes by that the media is playing with these internal government scandals is just another day lost on the focus of Benghazi…another day without progress in getting answers and finding the responsible parties who let four Americans die without retaliation or significant follow-up. Four Americans died yet the response is What difference does it make, Senator?” What difference does it make?” Here again is the suggestion that we simply wash our hands of the entire manner, write it off to history, and move on knowing full well that we will handle the next one in the same way. There is no accountability and certainly there is no honor among thieves.

Richard Nixon was driven from office for something far less reaching that what has been revealed about the Obama Administration in just the past two weeks. No one died in the Watergate Scandal…it was a two-bit burglary that was botched carried out in the name of political gain. The crime was a cover up which involved Nixon and his minions. Here, with the Obama Administration, we certainly have far worse and in multiple events yet there is no accountability and Obama himself makes it clear that he is not the person to be wearing the blame. Do you sense some double standard on the part of Washington and the media? Or, are they all just afraid that someone might just play the “race card” if any eye brows are seriously raised? Ah yes, the race card…Mr. Obama always has that one in his back pocket when all else fails.

One must sooner or later ask the question, “What would Eric Holder have to do in order for Obama to call for his head in terms of accountability?” That answer is not forthcoming on my part. I have no earthly idea. I suspect Mr. Holder knows too much to be either chastised or terminated for his actions. You might say that he has pictures of the President in some rather bad circumstances in a manner of speaking. Ultimately, Holder and Obama are two peas in a pod, cut from the same cloth….self-preservation comes before anything else and they only way one will abandon the other is when it comes down to one or the other in terms of accountability…in that case, Mr. Obama may or may not hold the winning hand.

Obama is a poser to the throne; the “continual candidate” who never stopped campaigning even after he won the office. This is how he insulates himself from these matters…he appears to be against all of it; cannot believe that it happened and certainly would not be something that he wanted. In other words, when I do decide to govern, this won’t be happening. The low-brow voter then believes that his hands are clean and that the “system” is simply out to “get Obama”. Of course that Teflon coating seems to drip on to his appointed minions as well; those who enjoy the power of position yet refuse any accountability for their leadership…like Eric Holder.

If our elected officials in Congress had any spine at all, we might start to get to the bottom of all of this but that cannot happen when we call in witnesses to testify (like Hillary Clinton) then conveniently forget to swear them to an oath on their testimony. They can perjure themselves all day without any recourse. At the same time Holder can sit in front of a committee and run his big mouth like everyone should be bowed down to the great and powerful Attorney General of the United States of America. The man should be in contempt of the Congress if anyone had the spine to do their job. If that ever happens, you can bet that John Boehner will not be anywhere nearby.

The checks and balances of this great nation depend on each branch of government demonstrating it strength and working toward preserving ethics, integrity, and the Constitution. When one branch runs roughshod over the other, the only recourse is for that branch to exercise it force and might in bringing things back to center line. At present, the executive branch of government is out of control and continuing on that path. The Supreme Court cannot stop it unless there is a formal challenge. The Justice Department under Holder is nothing more than an extension of the Obama Administration and Congress…well, that is just pitiful.

It is time for the American public, as a majority, to find its voice and demand answers and accountability. At present, this Administration is addressing issues and events as if it is “trading beads with drunk Indians”…we are being duped time and time again; offered lame explanations if not outright lies, and then scolded when we question any of it by those who perpetrated the action in the first place. How blind can we be? The answer here is ACCOUNTABILITY, plain and simple and it always will be. Presidents and department heads, etc. will always change but the concept of accountability remains the same and must be demanded and carried out. We elect people to sit in high places in this country and carry out “the will of the people”, not to offer us some sort of snake oil and flim-flam excuses which end up with no one being accountable for anything. The people must speak…the time has come.

As Americans, we have a nation structured on a Constitution and a Bill of Rights. We subscribe to the Rule of Law as a people. All elements of our basic premise as a nation are under attack by this administration and all they can do when they are caught red-handed is to plead forgiveness and attempt to throw some little people under the bus to qualm the outcry. That is no longer good enough and never has been. Our country is way too far left of centerline in its direction; too far off course and basically on the wrong path. We must have a correction and it starts with accountability on the IRS, on the AP Phone Taps, on Fast N’ Furious, and on Benghazi. It is long since passed the time when things should be collecting on this list of inaction.

@tsadjatko....You know, if we were dealing with a naive situation much akin to what we saw with Jimmy Carter, I could almost shrug my shoulders and say, "Okay, let's just let the clock run out". But, that is far from the case here with the Obama Administration. What we are seeing in ineptness, lack of focus or attention, or simply a passive, don't-give-a-damn attitude---fare from it. What we are seeing here is the gross manipulation of our entire federal government; an all out attack on our Constitution and Bill of Rights and a knowing failure and awareness there of to protect the citizens of this nation from outside threats. The damage being done here and the potential danger we face over the remaining term of this administration may be too long. Obama, by virtue of the brainwashing he endured over the course of his life cares little for America or her history and I believe that he truly takes solace in seeing what he believes to be "a gaint of colonialism" brought to its knees in front of the world. As you point out, this is not a one-man show and there is plenty of blame on both sides of the aisle for allowing it to happen. Ironically, most of it is getting by on the back of the race-card threat. What a bunch of spineless old fools we have sitting back and basking in the power and glory of their high offices while watching Obama attempt to dismantle the very fabric of the nation. As Krushchev once predicted, "we will take you over without firing a shot"--we are closer to that point than we might realize as Obama continues to push the limits of his socialist agenda all under the direction of the little socialist general behind the curtain pulling the levers---Valerie Jarrett. Obama may be the "face" of this administration but it is truly a barrel of very rotten fruit. ~WB

No surprises here at all. CHICANERY has become the new political ethics (on both sides of aisle) as well as in business and social life. But when any of these synonyms are mentioned: trickery, deception, deceit, deceitfulness, duplicity, dishonesty, deviousness, unscrupulousness, underhandedness, subterfuge, fraud, fraudulence, swindling, cheating, duping, hoodwinking, informal crookedness, monkey business, hanky-panky, shenanigans, skulduggery, monkeyshines, knavery ...what's the first thing that comes to mind (to an informed person)?

Wayne , The most politically detached administration ever . Period !Eric Holder is an obvious total fake ! Our bigger problem though , the plague of apathy in America . We are too focused on the Sunday AFL games , who's shopping at the mall of America while we do and our media's class war over it's own people . Congress is a sham , senate is even worse . So , what do we do ? I believe our two parties COULD join forces and fire all the congressional incumbents . How ? By voting them all out of office . Take the hit , how bad could it be to have all new politicians? What a message we could send . If only , great hub Wayne !

@drbj...I attribute their survival to the lackluster job of reporting and followup by the media coupled with what appears to be a bunch of spineless conservatives on the right fearful of pulling the trigger and being labeled as "racists". Add a layer of lavished affection by the lame stream press and they have themselves a pretty good bunker to hold up in. Thanks much, Doc! ~WB

I thought 'Fast and Furious' would have been the tipping point, Wayne. I was wrong. Then when Benghazi, the AP and then the IRS scandals were disclosed, I thought, 'aha, the game is up.' But Hilary is still making pronouncements like, 'What difference does it make" referring to Benghazi. And Holder is still professing ignorance ... of everything. What will it take for the majority of our citizenry to wake up and smell the garbage?

@dahoglund...I agree with you Don except that I believe the President has a very aggressive social agenda which he needs to fulfill and that includes many things which are and will do major harm to the country for decades to come if we can survive the financial depths which he will take us to with his spending and ever-expanding government and programs. The problem is larger than the president thus there are many other "not doing their job" and they all need replacing with people who are of the mind to sustain this country...not dismantle it. Thanks much! ~WB

I'm not sure this president really understands what his job is. He seems to have run for office with the idea of changing the country to fit his ideology. as such, law and the constitution are mere roadblocks to that goal. His base, naturally supports him in this regard. His real jobs is to do those things that need to be done to keep the people safe and the government running to assist, if necessary, the well being of the citizens. He should never put his own comfort, safety or well being above that of the country or the citizens thereof . It is up to us, as citizens, to decide if he has and will do that. If he has not then it is our duty to see that he does do his job or try to replace him with someone who will.

I'll admit to being less than up-dated and involved lately, but the 3 major scandals, staring us in the face now, are impossible to miss. Every news story I've turned to for the past few weeks, is ALL about them.

FINALLY, I see some outrage and anger.....demands for answers and accountability. This is a GOOD thing....for a pleasant change.

There HAS to be forthcoming...."rolling heads!"

GREAT hub, Wayne. Gosh, I've missed your fabulous classes that keep me appropriately informed!.......UP+++

@CMerritt...Obama is right where he wants to be, Chris...fabricating the truth. His life, career, etc. are all one big fabrication thus he knows the territory quite well. Nixon, in the end, elected not to put the country through such trials. Obama, on the other hand, does not believe they will happen. Keep in mind that he did not believe sequestration would take place either...and said so on national television. He can be wrong. Thanks much. ~WB

@Old Poolman...We have a bunch of spineless twits sitting in elected office on the Hill and at their roots, they all want the same thing....more power and continued spending of our money to gain it. They put on three act plays to impress us yet bungle the work along the way. How can you bring Hilary Clinton in to testify and not swear her in? Convenient oversight I would suppose? Carney, like so many others, is part of the crowd who believes that getting thrown under the bus is a necessary part of his job as he goes to any lengths to protect Obama and his socialist policies. In that light, he and others, are no different than those who would strap bombs to their bodies and pray to see the 72 virgins. Thanks much, Mike! ~WB

With any luck, based on all the scandals that have recently surfaced, others may begin to realize just how inefficient and corrupt our government has become. Even the Media will have trouble with this situation.

I would sure hate waking up as Jay Carney and having to stand before a crowd and defend all of these issues. But like any well trained Politician or Government Employee, he will do his best to continue the coverups.

The part of the hearings I saw this morning were quite interesting. Several of the Dems even tried to play the "Bush did it" card during their time in the limelight.

People can say what they want to about least he held some integrity for the Office of the White House...when he realized that he was bringing dishonor to his position, he resigned.

I really beleive that Obama is in so far over his head and beleives he is somehow above everything, that he will never realize just how much damage he is causing...or ever admit to, at the least.

@breakfastpop...This guy operates like Richard Nixon except when he gets caught then he runs for his Bill Clinton persona. @Old Poolman....There are few if any corporate settings in which such behavior by the leadership would be tolerated. That is like blaming quality control issues on the hourly workers when no standards have been established...someone has to lead and be accountable. No doubt, Obama and company will continue to throw little people under the bus in the hope of sate the appetite of the curious ones.

@Ericdierker...You are correct...things do happen on all watches but to watch Obama and his minions is almost like watching a Saturday Night Live satire on accountability....It's his fault! In many ways, Obama reflects a great swath of our current culture. If he had body piercing and art, that appeal might even be higher. The flames of Utopian love have been fanned by those standing in the shadows since the radical days of the 60's and certainly show they are alive and well with the Obama ilk. A man's circle of friends tells you a lot about the man and far too many of his are radicals, socialist, former-bombers, racist hate mongers, and those willing to do anything to put a buck in their pocket. Obama's persona and existence is a fabrication of that Utopian concept which is flawed from one end to the other.

@Gawth...I agree. It is time to turn all of this over to a totally independent body which has no political axe to grind and get it sorted out. Left to our elected officials, it just gets more complex and nothing ever comes of the things which come to light in any of the matters. We are being played as a public like fools. Thanks much! ~WB

Congress needs to appoint an independent investigator with the power to bring charges. It needs to start with the IRS scandal and expand as necessary.

It's bad enough that the IRS knows about your every asset. Now they will know every minute detail about your health.

Maybe the Republicans should FREEZE FUNDING FOR OBAMACARE until the agency is given a clean bill of health. Some Democrats might now vote for that.

It is becoming near sad. Bad shit happens, that is just life. But not taking responsibility for it is such a sad refrain --- is our country beginning to reflect this president, or is the president just reflecting our new moral code. In that he was re-elected I fear both are true.

Can you even imagine the CEO of any large company claiming ignorance as a defense for any actions as serious as these? He would be immediately fired, then laughed out of the Corporate World and banished forever.

He would not be able to fire the Janitor as reasonable action plan and solution to a problem such as any of the current three he is facing now.

He has never learned that being President makes him responsible. If the people he put in key positions don't keep him in the loop, that is still his fault.

It took awhile, but the total lack of experience and ability of key persons in this administration are now coming to light.
