By: Wayne Brown

Our forefathers valued a ”Free Press” as a strong basis of our continued freedom as a nation when they structured the Bill of Rights as the first ten amendments to our Constitution. They believed at the time that a “free press” would always put fact and truth ahead of propaganda, political gain, and general disinformation. Obviously their conclusions in that light were based upon experiences which had taught them that the Press had a particular sense of responsibility to the American public and that responsibility would keep those in power honest in their dealings with the people of this great nation.

Somewhere along the way, something went wrong. The truths of a “Free Press” are no longer evident in our society. The Free Press has tossed out its principles in return for selling soap and supporting political agendas. In just over 200 years, we have seen something the Founding Fathers saw as essential value to the people of this nation turn into a propaganda machine focused on supporting both liberal and radical values. As a result, our nation is far more open to the concept of tyranny than ever before.

The story in the news this week is getting to the bottom of the Manti Te’o story…or scandal as it has been portrayed. Investigative writers on every corner are speculating and digging into the story attempting to find where the lies were perpetrated and by whom. They cannot ask enough questions of those involved or write enough stories to grab the headlines. In the end, who cares? In the end some football player from Notre Dame who may have received a greater than normal dose of adulation from the American public falls from his pedestal into the pool of human shortcomings and bad judgment. Certainly that makes for a good story for the front page of the National Inquirer but it has little value in the overall scheme of what is going on in America which threatens our security, our well-being, and the future of our children.

Where was this mass of media types when Fast N’ Furious hit the streets? Where were the tough questions and why were they not asked over and over until an answer was forthcoming? Where was the media in questioning whether this administration had the right to intentionally get into the gun-running business only to lose control of the guns to some very dangerous people? Where was this same media when the Obama Administration began its attack on the 2nd Amendment with small children standing in the backdrop to rationalize the President’s desire to flush one of our rights as law-abiding citizens down his socialist toilet?

Where was this media as we watched the flames of Benghazi and discovered that four brave Americans had been killed awaiting the arrival of American Forces to come to their aid. Where was this media as the Obama Administration made the talk show circuit with their explanation of a video gone bad as justification for what they knew was a terrorist attack within mere minutes of its occurrence? Where were the tough questions that we have not seen asked since watching Nixon’s Administration go down in flames at the hands of the media? They were nowhere to be found in any significant number and each of these items slipped from the forefront and became lost in time with no real answers ever discovered. The media aided and abetted the Obama Administration in covering up the facts of both situations and they did it knowingly.

That same media put a greater amount of effort into following Hurricane Sandy’s destruction yet failed miserably at following up the shortfalls made in promises by this president when he showed up for his photo ops in the shadow of a national election vote. The media handed out the “messiah title” one more time but failed to follow up on the rhetoric espoused by the president and his administration.

Where was this media when the tragedy at Sandy Hook was turned into an all-out effort to attack the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution? Who asked the hard questions about how the dots were being connected and why guns were more the issue than mental instability of those improperly employing the guns? Who gave Senator Feinstein all the face time she needed to tout her ignorance about so-called “assault-styled” weapons yet failing to mention that anything is dangerous in the hands of an unstable mind? Who asked that question? Who demanded an answer on behalf of the American people who stood to lose yet one more right under the Constitution if the rational was followed? Who gave the Senator who shouted, “You don’t need a ten round clip to kill a deer”? Who countered that with the question or observation that a ten round clip might be very handy when two or three criminals are kicking down one’s front door in the middle of the night in a home invasion? Who? No one!

We have finally turned the corner in this country where our once thought of “Free Press” is little more than a propaganda arm of liberal politics…a group of men and women who place as little importance on the Constitution and the Bill of Rights as the illustrious and supposed “Magna Cum Laude” lawyer who sits in high power in the White House. Whatever this president desires, the greater portion of our national media is willing to support and propagandize to the level necessary to get it done, no real questions asked and no ill intent assumed or suspected. Just in the past week, President Obama commented that the current debt ceiling crisis was not about “more spending” but about “America paying the bills”. Never mind that a good portion of “those bills” come from this administration spending like drunken sailors over the past four years, a fact he failed to observe. Never mind that he never once used the phrase, “so we can borrow more money to spend on our bills”. That glass of water in the face might have awakened too many Americans, something Obama would rather not do. Of course, the media just spreads that line of propaganda and never questions him on those points. The debt ceiling increases, the debt owed increases and the argument continues to be, “we’ll talk about spending later”. The media never presses the point as to “when later might be”.

Journalism has gone from a state of collecting the facts and telling things like it is to a game of twisting information into whatever shape it needs to take to support the foregone conclusions of those in power. It is okay for Harry Reid and his ilk to stonewall the Senate and not even bring legislation to the floor for discussion and consideration by those elected to represent the people. This is not representation, it is hijacking and the American people are the ones who suffer the most from it. Yet who asks Harry Reid the difficult questions; who puts the responsibility at his feet…not the media. They are too busy looking for ways to blame the conservative side of the aisle for everything that happens. Obama, Reid, and Pelosi get a free ride along with Hilary Clinton. These people are off limits to any good media representative who wants to be welcome on Capitol Hill over the next four years.

Ironically, we no longer have a “Free Press” interested in seeing the will of the people sustained or protecting our founding documents from attack by those more interested in tearing down our system than sustaining it. The American media is more of a threat to the future of this nation than an asset to its well-being as intended by the Founders, which is exactly why the editor of that rag they call a newspaper here in my area can have the audacity to charge me almost $300 a year for him to openly tout that his newspaper is “Pro-Obama” and with that declaration serve me up the crap that he believes on a daily basis. It is no wonder that the subscribership is dwindling yet he blames it all on technology rather than content…so much for his intelligence and analysis.

Americans will eventually wake up in a land where the Constitution and the Bill of Rights are only memories of a time long passed. Their freedom and liberties will be eroded and will continue to erode with nothing of reference in place except the whims of those holding high office who are more than willing to issue executive orders which no one will have the power to dispute as the checks and balances system formerly in place will be down the toilet….all in the name of a more “progressive” society. What that progress really is and how it will be measured will not be anything which can be explained. Equality and fairness will supposedly be something the government legislates and enforces with a militia of jackbooted thug departments which might resemble that once employed by Hitler in his march to greatness. People so quickly forget that demons rise to power by taking away the powers of the people and rationalizing that action on the back of security and a more prosperous environment for all. By the time they figure it out, perpetrating the lie is no longer necessary to sustain the direction.

Maybe at that point in time, someone might once again realize the value of a free and truthful press in protecting the rights and the future of a nation. It certainly will be interesting to see if they are capable of making the correlation at that point in time. Maybe then they will realize that the “Free Press” which our Founding Fathers envisioned has propagated into nothing more than a propaganda arm of an overgrown, bloated, monster of a federal government which has no intent but to continue to grow in size and involvement in the lives of the American people. Maybe, just maybe, that propagation will finally bring an awareness that freedom and liberty in this country have been under attack for far too long.

@Walt Kienia...Your points are well-taken and well-made, Walt. I especially liked your observations on Blitzer and Candy Crowley. One sounds like someone named after a reindeer and the other after some kind of sweet treat you get at the county fair. Thanks much for the good words. ~WB

Wayne, you write such balanced and interesting political Hubs. There is no doubt that newscast have become less impartial, and in fact quite shallow, focusing on ridiculous , shallow, spotty sort of events for the most part. The complicated stuff is sensationalised. It has to be because otherwise it does not attract the audience, and therefore the dollars. I sense your anger and sadness at the way things are going. Keep writing , some of us listen, even on the other side of the border.

@breakfastpop....That certainly would be CNN's take on the work. Thanks much! ~WB

@Christopher Dapo....I totally agree that the press was view as a protector of the people from bad government, bad politicians, and wrongful actions. In terms of Obama, I don't see the good fight. I see a man who was mentored by a communist, elevated by a domestic terrorist along with the help of his Chicago power-based father, inspired by Marxist, Alinsky, guided by Reverend Jeremiah Wright, funded by George Soros, and more than willing to run his mouth in the name of class warefare and division in the country while he continually looks for ways to test all aspects of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. If he has as much to say a Fast N' Furious and Benghazi as he does about sequestration, the public might just know more of the truth...if he indeed has ever told the truth. We certainly won't find that out waiting for the media to vet it for us. Thanks much. ~WB

@lovemychris....Sorry LMC but media outlets can say all they want...the money and the relationships between the factors of money expended, revenue retrieved, and debt accumulated just does not paint such a picture. If this president cared about a buck period, he would have put a budget in place and managed rather than opting for continuing resolutons which amounts to nothing more than blank checks for him to continue writing. If he really cared he would not have spent 4 million dollars to go to Hawaii on vacation only to turn around and come then to return for an extra 3 million dollar price tag. If he cared about a buck he would not have handed the EPA 125% of its previous operating budget and made sure that 47 million people ended up on the welfare rolls while he burns aviation fuel like water running around the country on a never ending campaign of class division and warfare whining like some kind on the school yard...."the rich don't pay their fair share"....hell, he doesn't even know what a fair share is when he talks about it....just a little more and then a little more....just enough to keep spending at record levels burying us in debt while he refers to it as "investments". Sane people don't make investments with borrowed money. ~WB

      Here's another one:

"Amidst all the cries of Barack Obama being the most prolific big government spender the nation has ever suffered, Marketwatch is reporting that our president has actually been tighter with a buck than any United States president since Dwight D. Eisenhower."

The media is a complete and total brainwash. Of the corps, by the corps, for the corps! (corporations)

Can you explain to me why the deficit is lower now than when BO took ofice, but all the media does is blather on about "we gotta cut the deficit"...?

If the WH ran media....wouldn't they be harping on the lowering of the deficit?

      Instread, it's just the opposite.

And guess what blew UP the deficit?

      Tax cuts!

      Where is the left-wing media? I don't see it...and I wish I would!

Just to be frank, the media WAS supposed to be the "guards" of the people - that is to say, to let the cat out of the bag when it needed to be done - and it was put in place to serve the public trust - just like each of the other positions of power in our government - and so...

...Just like those other positions of power in our government, the media has been under corruptive control - for years, mind you, not just recently, and certainly not because of ANY president's administration (especially Obama himself) - which leaves us with our sore leader - not meaning as being a sore excuse for one, but sore as in taking the falls he's being aimed to take.

From what I've seen, our prez is fighting the good fight as best he can - without the support of the people who he stepped up to plate for - and he's fighting "satan" - present as our representatives in office - all by his lonesome, which he's done for a full term already...

And no, the media doesn't help. That ends my rant on this, thanks!

Let's be clear. For the most part, the media is state controlled. The vast majority of people will only hear about events that meet with the approval of the WH. We should all be very, very angry.

"The Daily Caller, which hyped Woodward's initial claims last night, posted an article by Matt Lewis this morning explaining that conservatives had seized on Woodward's initial story because it "confirmed our suspicion about the Obama Administration's 'Chicago-style' of politics." After reading the full emails, Lewis concluded that conservatives had been "played," and that the exchange is "much more innocuous" than it was initially presented.

Echoing Lewis, Daily Caller co-founder Tucker Carlson said during an appearance on Fox News that the full emails suggest Woodward "hyped" the claim that he had been threatened."

--But they ran with it anyway: giving them all of the day to slam Obama....

Not one of them bothered to read the e-mails? wow.

Jennifer Rubin: Woodward story was evidence of the "monstrously stupid" White House. Got that one out too.

The media is all of it owned by 6 owns 75% of the internet....facebook has admitted to being used for fbi and cia.

Media is a corporation of by and for the corporations.

Only true reporting is done on alternet. And called "conspiracy theory".

And even there is mass dis-information.

Just watch their actions......and pay attention. That's all we can do I think.

And our side sees the Liberal-Progressives wanting total control. By the way, Dems have done redistricting (it's called gerrymandering!) also. It works BOTH ways! I seem to recall the press castigating G.W. Bush too!

Checks and balances are what prevent the Dems from exercising unlimited power.

How far left do you have to be to not see this???

I give up. You are a lost case!

Half of us did not vote for the Republican's either....yet Boehner bragged that he got 98% of what he wanted in the sequester deal.

HELLO. They are NOT interested in checks and balances.....they want total control.

How is it that Dems have the presidency and the Senate, but no power?

House has been re-districted to R's....for the long term. House sets the agenda...controls the purse.

      Filibuster in Senate.

Obama will HAVE to act alone to get anything done.

AND...Boehner just yesterday challenged him to do so. But once he know what the media will say: "Obama is a Tyrant"

Kochsters own America......we need drastic action.

And they own the media too.

An integral part of our government as set forth by the Founding Fathers was to have the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial Branches of government form a series of checks and balances against abuse of power. The purpose of having a bicameral Legislative Branch was to have the Senate represent the states by having the State government elect/appoint the senators and the House of Representatives elected by the populace represent the citizens. (The 17th Amendment provided for direct election of senators by the citizens. Big, big mistake!) Again, a form of checks and balances. If the GOP were to blindly follow the Liberals and rubber stamp what is presented by them, then we would have no checks and balances and we would merely have mob rule (51 percent vs 49 percent). Please remember that the United States is NOT a democracy, it is a federal, constitutional republic.

When you say WE voted for Obama and his policies, please remember that almost half of the citizens of the United States DID NOT vote for him/them. If we and our beliefs/policies are not represented within this government, then this Nation is no longer a federal, constitutional republic but will have become a dictatorship.

I think if you will widen your information searches, you will find that the House has produced several budget bills to avert the last few fiscal issues and sent these bills to the Senate, where Harry Reid has refused even look at House produced bills. In fact, in direct violation of U.S. law, the Senate has failed to pass a budget for the past 5 (FIVE) years. The obstructionism runs BOTH ways.

Not how I see it. The GOP are Obstructionists. WE voted for Obama and his policies. The GOP are nullifiying Americans votes. They have no right to do so.

Obama put the sequester in to force them to govern, you their job.

Otherwise, they would simply continue to say no to everything, and refuse to bring bills to the floor...which Boehner is doing as we speak.

Reporters are in the GOP bag.

Everyone of them but MSNBC..and then even they have all kinds of "republican" pov.

Obama is lied about on a web-site, and it goes mainstream.

Even members of Congress buy into it for god sakes....anything to discredit Obama...and I mean anything.

They are pernicious liars, and dangerous. And the more media gives them, the more they take.

It took 8 yrs before we knew it was Bush adm that did stutnex! 8 yrs. Does anyone remember WHY the sequester was put in place in the 1st place??

Uh huh...but now it's billed as the whole thing is Obama's fault. LIE. On national news daily.

Pushed on by web-sites, talk radio and Fox.

The media is in the GOP bag. They bought it.

And our rights are being taken away at a rapid pace while they lie and distort. That is MO.

I think a number of liberal reporters are starting to wake up. I mentioned Kirsten Powers. When I first saw and heard her, I couldn't believe some of the stuff she spouted in support of the Left. Recently, she has been very critical of the Left-leaning media and reporters especially in regards to the attack in Benghazi and other media gloss-overs.

@Everyone...Thanks for the good comments. I think we have to give credence to Bob Woodward opening his eyes wide enough to see what is happening and having the moxy to speak of it publicly...not like he is some ultra-conservative. At the same time, the news hits the streets that CNN has been currying favor for "reporting" the news in such a fashion as to please the current administration...they call that bribery in some circles. I can live with give and take and with right and left views. But I cannot stomach a media which does not have the fortitude nor the concern to confront a president on some scale. How much miserable failure do we need to register before some of it sticks to the savior? At the same time, I can deal with liberal ideas as long as they are encompassed in a passion for the continuation of our government and our nation as we know it. When things cross the line to the point at which the Constitution is under attack, the Bill of Rights is under attack, and the entire private business sector of America is under attack yet there are no questions of substance from the audience for fear they might anger the king. Hey for once, let's anger this pompous pretender to the office and see if he can get off his lazy golf-playing butt and display some courage and leadership...put on his big boy britches and go to work in the job that he begged the nation to give him rather than sit up there to moan and belly ache about the wealthy not paying their share....what about the other half of America that is paying nothing at all but taking everything handed out with a smile? ~WB

The Drudge Report is a news aggregator site which posts links to news items on other sites. I have seen both conservative and liberal news items linked there (although I will give you it does lean right). The Drudge Report does not present in-house articles per se.

I make it a point to look at several different news agencies and read several different news print sources on a regular basis. The mainstream media has been increasingly filled with liberals who support the overall Liberal-Progressive Movement. I think what we are seeing is the LPM going "all-in" to push their agenda to the fullest now that they have the media (propaganda ministry), education (indoctrination), unions (Brown Shirts!), and 2/3 of the government. The recent news items regarding Obama replacing high ranking military officers with those more loyal to him shows he's trying to get control over the military.

Farrakhan is stirring up the Muslims and blacks to be prepared to fight whitey. La Raza is stirring up the Hispanics into a Reconquista frenzy.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but I am a student of history. All of the indications are that the USA is heading into chaos between two opposing ideologies. I never thought I'd live to see the day.

@lovemychris: Fast and Furious was not started by G.W. Bush. Bush did have a program similar to F&F (called Wide Receiver), which did track the weapons, and WAS shut down after limited success. Yes, other embassies were attacked and personnel killed under other presidents, HOWEVER, those presidents did not try to blame the attacks on anti-Muslim video or try to hide the fact that it was a terrorist attack. (Clue 1: It happen on 09/11/12, anniversary of the attack on New York, the Pentagon, and other locations. Every 9/11 the Radical Muslims attempt some form of attack upon us and anyone should be able to figure out that we (the US government) should go on heightened alert to protect our people overseas, not refuse support to our people!)

As to media bias: there are two sides to every coin. If you watch the mainstream media, you hear a ritual regurgitation of Liberal/Democrat talking points, on each channel and in each print. No counterpoints are seen or heard. (In 2008, I watched ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, HLN, and read numerous magazines and newspapers and EACH and EVERY single one of those agencies said exactly the same thing, in the same words, as if it were the gospel, with no room for doubt. It is statistically impossible that this should occur unless they were preaching the same talking points.) At least on Fox you see liberals (Juan Williams, Bob Beckel, Kirsten Powers, and many others) providing the counterpoint to the conservatives. You may wish to expand your viewing and reading to multiple sources with different viewpoints! (What's funny is Kirsten Powers seems to be undergoing a serious, eye-opening transition in recent months and has begun calling out the liberal media for NOT reporting news items that they should be covering!)

Wayne you have done it again! You got me all riled up. I certainly hope and pray that this next generation coming through will somehow open their eyes to the damage that has been done.

I saw on todays Drudge Report where the White House is making threats to those who are challanging them. Woodward has been told he will regret, his harsh words blaiming Obama for the requestration. Former Clinton Aid Lanny Davis has also been WARNED by the WH for his harsh remarks against the annoited one! Chuck Todd recently aired some harsh words about Obama.......

I would love to THINK that Americans will pressure the press and the WH to come clean with these actions....but I am not holding my breath.

People better wake up! It is going down fast.
