It seems that each time I pick up the newspaper or listen to radio, I get a bit of information that turns my stomach and makes me wonder what is happening to the USA. Even far more reaching is the number of people who want to rationalize the information as being the “right thing to do”. It seems that we have lost our ability to reason for ourselves, apply logic, and predict an outcome to a given proposal. Or is it that we have become such an apathetic nation that we feel that it is much better for our elected royalty to do our thinking for us. Either way, it is a fool’s game which can only end in undesired consequences.

Vice President Joe Biden is up on the podium again telling women they only need two 12 gauge shells and a shotgun to fire off the rear balcony if someone is attempting to enter their premises. Perhaps Joe has not heard of some of the latest home invasions in which multiple parties enter at the same time fully cognizant that there are people in the house and with far more on their mind their simple burglary. Of course Biden has protection all around him, none which amounts to the firepower obviously he thinks is exhibited by a woman firing off two shotguns shells. Maybe Joe needs that kind of protection. After all, he is really in no danger of being harmed as his high level of naivety protects him in every way. Joe needs to be speaking from experience…perhaps about the subject of hair transplants and how to smile real big and act like a good ol’ boy.

Recently, in an Arlington, Texas school, a teacher shoved pencil shavings in the mouth of one of the students as a disciplinary action for his behavior. When the parent complained and the school investigated, all parties admitted that the action taken by the teacher was as described. Even the local teachers organization aka union admitted the same. The union supplied legal representation to the teacher when the parent demanded that the teacher be relieved of employment in the classroom. Through legal action the teacher kept her job thanks to the unions desire to keep all teachers, good or bad, working in the system. Obviously the school system administration is complicit and spineless to say the least. For this, we pay our tax dollars…so the federal government can decide what our children are taught and the unions will decide who will teach them?

In light of the gun control efforts currently going on, the Washington State legislature recently passed laws requiring that all residents of the State allow law enforcement officials to enter their homes and inspect how they guns are being secured. Many citizens are outraged and rightfully so as the implications of such actions are only limited by one’s own imagination. This legislation was sponsored by two Washington State Democrats. Once the controversy started after the bill was passed successfully both of the Democrats admitted that they only sponsored the bill on the floor but never actually read it. The bill amounted to eight pages…not a very challenging read.

Now, under the guise of inspecting you gun security, Washington State law enforcement officers can enter your home without warrant and in effect conduct an unlawful while reasoning that they are only checking the guns. Where does the legislation stop. Can they search your home to make sure you are showing them all the guns. Obviously they want to see where you are keeping the guns and what is to stop them from inventorying the guns and the storage site on the visit. When the order comes down to collect all the guns, they should have no problem cleaning that up in Washington State. Once again the voters have chosen an empty promise of increased security and safety in exchange for their freedom and liberty. Why not bring along Child Protective Services and let them inspect your parenting skills at the same time. Or how about a representative from that wonder EPA to check your home and make sure it is environmentally acceptable and not giving off too many carbons emissions? Where does it all stop…when all your rights are gone? That sounds like the perfect destination for desiring such a society ruled totally by the actions of an overgrown and all-encompassing government which has no interest in the “will of the people”. Maybe Joe Biden can come along and teach a course of the proper use of shotguns.

Now, our illustrious, progressive, President, fresh off his three-day golf outing with Tiger Woods, rushes back into Washington and puts on a dog and pony show as to how sequestration will harm the American people. He never points out that his bunch designed the whole thing with a built in trigger to all-out attack the department of defense and fully undermine our military abilities. He fails to mention that he was sure at the time that no one had the balls to follow through with this action based on the built in trigger. Now, he wants to hang that around the necks of those on the right and blame them for it as he parades a bunch of dressed up first responders on the stage and touts how they will be among the first to be put out of work. He never mentions that maybe he could long ago have cut back on some of his multi-million dollar vacations. He never mentions reducing the size and scope of the out of control EPA or his Department of Justice. One might remember that he stood on the stage in the last debate with Romney and outwardly claimed that “sequestration” would never happen. Now he is faced with it; something he created, and he wants to blame it on others.

Here we have a president who campaigned for the job on the basis of economic improvement and job growth and he has failed miserably at both. He has managed to spend, spend, spend, and demand more spending while establishing promises of spending cuts loaded with triggers to ‘hurt the American people”. He has bound an unwilling public and private sector to a healthcare façade that will further sink the nation in undying debt and be the singular downfall of the best healthcare system in the world today. He cries out for gun control yet has no solutions for mental illness or time to recognize it place in the crimes touted as gun violence. He cries out for amnesty and reform in immigration with no plan for border security, welfare benefits, or voter identification. He continues to beat the drum on taxation of the rich and has taken that mantra into actions which result in reverse taxation on the American people. If this president has succeed at anything and created a legacy at all, it is one of class division and societal warfare which will live long after he is enjoying his wonderful retirement courtesy of the American taxpayer.

When the wheels of government have fallen off; when common ground cannot be found; when the dissolution of rights under the Constitution take a higher precedence than our out of control spending, ever-growing federal government, outrageous national deficit and debt, there is only one place the buck stops and that is in the Oval Office. Never mind Harry Reid or Nancy Pelosi, Barack Obama is the problem. He has failed to protect the Constitution. He has ignored the basis of checks and balances. He has ignored the legal requirements for a federal budget and he has openly used his executive order to circumvent the legislative processes of this nation. Never mind his pitiful foreign policy and his never-ending cover-ups of issues like Benghazi and Fast ‘n Furious. He does not mean to give any answers and there is no one with the balls to demand them.

If this is what we have become as a people, then we are a sorry lot to say the least. We deserve everything that the aftermath of this pursuit will bring to us in the years to come. Unfortunately our children and our grandchildren do not but if all the freedoms and liberties are gone before they have a chance to experience them then how can they miss what they never had? How can they see beyond the poverty that will surely be thrust upon them as our house of cards comes crashing down on the American people leaving only the elite such as Obama and those in dire poverty with no will to break the chains and leave the government dole.

Our court systems depict a legal system in which “justice is blind” in determining which way the scales will tilt. Our world of today goes far beyond that system yet still depends upon it. In our world today, far too many of our public is blind and not willing weigh the future or the potential consequences of actions taken by those who purport to be intelligent. Never confuse intelligence with leadership. It will fail you every time. For the present, leadership in America consists of class division, elimination of rights and liberty, ignoring the private business sector except for taxation purposes, and the overall desire to fundamental transform everything that we have known as a people into a new world order in which we all forget we are Americans and simply become members of the global sheep herd.

@billdo1603...Thank you for those incitful comments. I agree with you...far too much of our citizen base lives in the shadows or possibly the darkness of current affairs yet they vote just like everyone else. The current administration has used the "chicken in every pot" concept to great gain and now the actual taxpaying portion of the public must pick up the tab. Anytime a candidate refers to a known system as requiring transformation yet stops short of defining what the goals of that transformation might be....the public should be running away as fast as possible if anything like common sense applies. We live in a nation structured by the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the Rule of Law. There is no basis for anyone to argue that for one person to be successful in this country it must come at the expense of another yet that is how this administration portrays America in its past form...a total lie which plays off of the success of many who have earned their wealth through determination, focus, hard work, and yes, a certain amount of luck. But, for those not willing to try, to embrace what this administration is selling tells us much about the mindset of the apathetic side of the American public..."just tell me where to get into line for the free stuff!". Thanks much. ~WB

Wow Wayne Great Hub,I agree with nearly every word of it. The problem with this country is many of the people who put Obama, Pelosi et al in office don't follow politics and current events. They have no idea. They live in a vacuum and don't have any real idea of the consequences of their actions. Voted up and interesting

@Jackie Lynnley...Those not paying attention have brought this upon us and we will have to suffer it through...if there indeed can be an end to it. Our liberties and freedoms are being traded like cheap beads for empty promises of security and political correctness. Those occupying high office in Washington today care nothing for the average American especially if that caring cuts into their political power base. It is all about keeping things going the way they are so no one on either side of the aisle has to make a hard choice or decision. In the mean time, we continue down the road to socialism as a nation with few crying for the bus to stop. Thanks much, Jackie! ~WB

What is wrong with Americans? It really astounds me that they let Obama scare them and feed them lie after lie and he is so busy trying to take rights and amendments away he has no time to spend on economy and jobs. Just feeds the unemployed a few more lies, buy a few more days until we are no more. Can you imagine in ten years if this goes on? House inspections, drones to hunt down and kill the disloyal...and we never dreamed Russia may look good. I wouldn't be surprised if he re-elects himself...

Keep talking Wayne, remember he did not win by that much and I even question that...

@poetvix...Not only is the Washington State law a total non-solution to a mental health problem but it also adds a burden to the taxpayers....someone has to pay for all those inspectors as law enforcement claims to be spread too thin. Also, if you refuse the inspection, you can get up to a year in jail whereby the taxypayers have to feed an otherwise inoccent person. You are right, this is not stupidity or is Washington slowly grabbing all the power over the people. Thanks much! ~WB

@vickiew...I would like to think that rational Americans could solve it with their vote but the other side has bought so many votes with the welfare wagon that the hope that happening diminishes by the day. We are in a hell of a mess. ~WB

@Old Poolman....You are so right on every point, Mike! Thanks much! ~WB

@Angela Blair...Thank you! I would like to think that we still have enough rational people and the power of the vote to change that. At the same time, I heavily suspect that the voting mechanism was tampered with the last time around in particular states thus our power of the vote erodes steadily. Those who doubt what is going on here actually believe that Obama is attempting to shield them from worse things...the facts could not be further from the truth. He is out to break the financial back and the will of middle income earners...that is the key to fundamental transformation in the USA. ~WB

Again, Wayne, you've said it for those of us who pay attention to what's happening to our country. I must admit though, I don't know what to do to change it -- seems to me other than voting we're all like cattle standing at the fence waiting for the gate to open -- and that's only profitable to hungry cattle -- not Americans. I feel like a sheeple because I recognize what's going on but have no idea how to address it for the optimum results -- most of us don't even feel like our votes mean anything anymore and that's in and of itself tragic. Excellent Hub and I thank you. Best/Sis

This game will run right up to the final buzzer, and right then but not before, our elected representatives will save us from yet another manufactured disaster. We of course will feel good that they did the job they are paid to do, and will be more than willing to vote them back into office at the next election.

The final agreement will be much less than we were hoping for, but it won't be quite the disaster we were dreading. This is like watching a re-run on TV over and over. About a third of the way through we get that feeling we have seen this show before. And by halfway through the show we know we have seen it before.

They either need to actually do the job we pay them for, or write a new script to use to fool us into believing they are working.

Wow, this is quite intimidating stuff for a naive Canadian to contemplate. I haven't yet looked up the sequestering business, so can't offer much in the way of discussion there. What I do detect is there is a lot of passion in your writing, and that of your commenters, and a real feeling of frustration. Wish things would improve in many areas of your discontent, but I guess my question is, how do you solve this?

God help us; You're right on every count. To me, the worst thing about all of this is the fact that so many believe it to be crazy, but done out of ignorance or stupidity. I posit neither is the case. The policies and the lack thereof of this administration are destroying us. I for one doubt not for one second that they gleefully know it.

Just a side thought: Do all those in Washington who just have to know guns are stored properly and securely truly believe such legislation will prompt folks to go the legal route to get the weapons they more and more need every day just to survive in their own homes? I doubt it. This type of legislation only punishes law abiding citizens while the crooks laugh at them for complying in the first place. I can just see the headline in the not too distant future; "Family dies after home invasion. Murderers had locations of all firearms beforehand - Sold to them by corrupt officials."

@carol7777...Only a little over a third or so have to keep their head in the sand...another third does not vote and the remaining third argue the points thus those who win only get a majority of the mix between dumb and dumber. Our younger generations expect to be entertained and if you entertain them...they ask no questions and fear no consequences. Thanks Carol! ~WB

@breakfastpop....You go girl! Keep punching and sooner or later you are bound to get a knock out or two! Thanks for the good words! ~WB

@CMerritt...Is it not amazing how openly one man can lie and not be called to task on it by either the media or those in elected office. I think it speaks volumes as to what the majority, regardless of aisle alignment, want to keep going on in Washington. We really need to clean house and 2014 looks like a good place to start. Thanks Chris! ~WB

@Ericdierker...Philosophy has a way of reminding folks how stupid they have already been thus they shun it and look for other distractions...hey! let's get a nice tatoo so that we can make sure that we don't get hired! Let's do our face! I am not sure we are a nation which prides itself much on intelligence anymore or the way in which we measure it has so changed that the older generations do not see the proof. The education system of the day teaches process, process, process. Put things in one end of the machine...they come out the other and there you have your answer...which is not to be questioned or monkeyed with prior to implementation. Having the discipline to do so implies intelligence or the measure of it. You did good going with will serve you for a lifetime which is much better than some who are sleeping tents in protests of Wall Street can say. Thanks, Eric! ~WB

Wayne this is awesome. Very well done.

I graduated with a degree in philosophy. The only thing the degree did was help make me think better. It was brutally hard to get.

We all, only six of us, after graduation laughed about hanging out a shingle on a store front.

But the next day I walked by a little mall, these were the businesses: Tattoos, Beauty Salon, Shoe shine, Pet grooming and a travel agent.

      Our world has funny priorities.

This hub is the true SOTU speech. I intend to share it far and wide, even with people I know who won't agree with one word written here. Way too many Americans are quite content to leave the business of running the country to just about anyone. They are pre-occupied with other matters and won't pay attention till something comes along and personally hits them where it hurts. It won't be pretty when it happens and it will also be too late. Up, up, up and shared!

Petra took the words right out of my mind, Wayne. American Insanity is the most appropriate term for the mindset of what appears to be the majority of our citizens. They don't want to lose all the free goodies the government has been handing out. They don't want to acknowledge that the well can and will run dry!

Since the sanity has been lost for awhile, maybe "The American insanity" would have been a better title.

What is happening those days is totally insane and the possible remedy is in the wrong hands. Most people know what is going on, but either because of hopelessness or apathy nobody is ready to do anything that will make a difference or they are just plain afraid to stick their head out and be crashed by the corrupt system

The new American political tool is to instill false fear in enough Americans that they will beg government to save them. Thus, we have the Patriot Act, Homeland Security, Obamacare, entitlements of all kinds, etc., and the latest is disarming law abiding Americans for the supposed purpose of halting gun violence.

We have gone from a land of fiercely independent and rugged individuals to a pack of whimpering, simpering, old women.

WB - The inmates truly are running the asylum these days. Any one of the things you described is bad, but start adding them all together and it becomes insanity at best.

The liar in chief is doing a great job of convincing America that sequestration is a plan devised by the Republicans, and will never accept any of the blame. The Media protects him as usual, and no fingers will ever be pointed at Obama. What will it take for more Americans to start demanding the truth and recognizing what is really happening. I'm sure by now some even wish they could vote again and pick a different candidate.

Well put my friend. Rome was never conquered, they fell from within. Red flags are waving in our faces, warning us of the same impending disaster, yet we blindly go on out way. I too worry about our next generation. Our once proud country does appear to be turning into a loonie-bin.
