AN OPEN LETTER TO HILLARY CLINTON
I feel your pain. Practically every poll, pollster and pundit had you anointed as the first lady president in 2016. Three million more people voted for you than for Donald Trump, yet you lost the game because of an arguably archaic rule. You may also feel justifiably that Russian influence, voter suppression and FBI Director Comey's "She did, she didn't, maybe she did" game rigged things against you as well.
You have served the county well as First Lady, United States Senator from New York and US Secretary of State. Your husband's presidency is looked on largely fondly as a time of economic prosperity.
Now that there are rumblings that you are considering a rematch in 2020.
Please don't. It's time for you and Bill to take a long, well deserved restful retirement.
Moreover, the Clinton era is over. The success of Barack Obama and Donald Trump; and near success of Bernie Sanders is due largely in part because they represented a break from the past.
The energy of the Democratic Party is in the Bernie Sanders wing, although if it's any consolation, Bernie's a bit too long in the tooth for a future presidential run as well. The party needs a younger, fresh face with new ideas who can also bring back those blue collar Trump defectors - someone like a Rep. Seth Moulton of Massachusetts.
Hillary, it would serve you much better not to go out as a three time loser but to hold your head high as an elder statesperson.
