Was the Amanda Knox Trial a Travisty? Was she innocent? Who is Mignini?

Updated on January 29, 2014

New developments in Amanda's Case

The Italian Court of Cassation, Italy's final court of appeals has overturned Amanda's 2011 acquittal. The country can not force her to return to Italy but she can be tried without being present and if convicted will be extradited back to Italy.

Amanda has returned to Seattle and is finishing school. A book about her trials in Italy will be released in April of this year.

The Story

As we all probably know by now, being tried for a crime in another country is entirely different than the US. Just being in the wrong place at the wrong time can be enough to have you convicted of a terrible crime.

I have been following the case of Amanda Knox the foreign exchange student from Seattle who was convicted of murdering her roommate from England, Meredith Kercher 21.

It does not seem to make much difference that her DNA was not found in and around the crime scene but rather the lack of proof of where she was that made her and her boyfriend, Rafellaele Sollecito, the prime suspects for prosecutor, Giuliano Mignini to convince Judge Micheli to send Amanda to trial for murder. Mignini contrived exactly how the crime was carried out with vivid detail. He has continued to allege Amanda was part of a satanic sex orgy ending in Meredith's murder on All Soul's Eve. Mignini himself was under investigation and later found guilty for illegal activities surrounding a previous conviction he had worked on.

Amanda and her boyfriend of two weeks, Rafellaele Sollecito 24, been smoking pot and watching movies on one of their computers. Amanda went back to her home the next day and did notice some blood on the floor but did not think it was enough to be concerned of. She took a shower and later Meredith was found dead in her room.

Once she was taken into custody she was questioned to the point of torture for 14 hours. During that time she gave conflicting information, possibly due to lack of sleep and being beaten by a female policewomen already accused of 6 previous acts of violence against suspects in Italy. Amanda was interrogated in Italian and told things would go much better for her if she were not to have an attorney present even though in Italy, as in the US, she was entitled to have an attorney . She was later accused of and tried for slander for her comments concerning the investigation.

At one point a prison guard, dressed as a doctor wrongfully told Amanda she had HIV and demanded she name all her sexual partners. This was then leaked to the Italian press becoming yet another strike against her and a further way for Mignini to paint her as a slut. She soon was given the name Foxy Knoxy.

When she and her boyfriend were put on trial they had 6 jurors, 3 women and 3 men. The coroner, Francesco Introna, testified during the trial that it was impossible for more than one person to commit the crime due to the size of the room and that the knife the prosecutors said was the murder weapon was much too long for the cut on her neck according to the ANSA news.

Now nearly 4 years since the murder, things are looking up for Amanda. After a nearly year long appeal the defense team has found over 54 major mistakes with the prosecutions investigations including an eyewitness who was strung out on heroin the night of the murder and pieces of rye bread crumbs turning up as the DNA evidence on the knife supposedly used for the murder. Defence evidence appeared to have been destroyed by the police including the hard drive to the computer with the movie they watched the night of the movie.

The third suspect, Rudy Guede, whose DNA was found all over the crime scene was later picked up in Germany. He is known as a liar and petty thief and is said to be a part of a threesome crime by the Italian prosecution. He is a citizen of Perugia, where his finger prints were first taken but formerly from the Ivory Coast. Rudy was linked to 3 other break-ins. He is now serving 30 years in prison for the crime.

The defence says the case against Amanda Knox was a total "farce" and the Italian reporters painted her as a "She Devil". The end of her appeal is expected to be this Monday. So two days before her appeal is decided, do you think Amanda Knox murdered Meredith Kercher?

A Third Trial!!!!!!

New Trial began again on Amanda condemning the fiery trial when went through years ago. A new prosecutor in Florence Italy Alessandro Crini, intends that the trial was inaccurate and the argument between Amanda and her room mate was not over use of drugs and a love tryst but rather an argument that escalated into murder concerning the cleanliness of the apartment and a unflushed toilet. If convicted Amanda may be extricated back to Italy to stand trial a third time with an Italian grand jury.
