America: A Soft Fascism

One Biscuit With No Butter: Alone

Many people will not like you for speaking the truth. For many years I was a liar.I even lied to myself, and so I had lots of friends. But one day I noticed a very foul smell, and I decided it was time to make myself clean. When I stepped out of the water I stood there alone. But I was born alone, and I will also die alone. It only seems natural that I should live this way.

Welcome To The New Fascist State

What exists today in America is a form of "Soft Fascism",I first heard the term on an episode of the television series "Crossfire". The late great pop composer /musician Frank Zappa used the term in reference to what he viewed as a prevailing trend in the United States. Here is the link to the video: Frank Zappa on Crossfire

There are many examples of this soft fascism on the internet.Especially on sites that solicit content from freelance writers.Articles about shopping, cooking, celebrities, and the like are encouraged, whereas hard hitting journalism and the covering of controversial topics with social or political import are commonly discouraged.Although there are many things I like about Hubpages, what I have described also seems to be true here as well. You can write about controversial topics, but there is a caveat. When writing about sensitive issues, such as violence against women, there are certain keywords that will disable Adsense ads on your Hub.The word is one good example.Even if your article has been presented with a tone of prevention, along with suggestions that might be helpful to a victim; it simply does not matter.Your ads will most likely be disabled.

I submitted an article a while back that used the proper word for a common regular movement of nature: def...the; in short order my ads were disabled; in spite of the fact that the word was not used in a vulgar context. This kind of Censorship is quite effective because it "gently" encourages writers who want to profit from their work to keep their articles light and happy; generically user friendly. Of course,on many of these sites the writers are led to believe that they have a choice, when in reality there is none.On paper it looks like this: "You write according to our standards or you can go ahead and publish without getting paid!"

It is my understanding that this aspect has more to do with Google Adsense than Hubpages, since Google apparently has bots that look for certain keywords they consider objectional. When one or more of these keywords are found ,ads on the Hub are disabled. As a consequence, many contributors are hesitant to honestly express themselves.

The military industrial complex already controls the regular press outlets: the newspapers, the television, and other media throughout the United States. Now we see a fascist trend developing here on the internet as well.

Was Frank Zappa Really A Troll?

Of a lesser concern to writers but just as noteworthy; this trend can be seen in Forum posting guidelines across the net.For instance,in the Hubpages posting guidelines, among other things it states:

"Keep it civil. Debate and disagreements on points of substance are okay, but personal attacks, petty bickering, trolling, and thread hijacking are not tolerated."

When you click on the word "trolling" you will be delivered to this Wikipedia definition:

• a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people by posting inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a forum, chat room, or blog), either accidentally or with the deliberate intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.

Looking at this definition,we can quickly see the fascist purpose in the promotion of such a term. This term would have served a useful function in Nazi Germany.Anyone who disagreed with Hitler's agenda could have been accused of being a "troll" ; of being inflammatory and sowing discord. And of course, such a person would have fit the definition perfectly.During the spring of 1938,I am sure that any derogatory statement toward Hitler and his merry band of miscreants would have offended Nazi sympathizers.

Keep in mind that I am not suggesting here that Hubpages, or any other site that has adopted the usage of such terms is fascist, nor any individuals who may use such terms.I am simply suggesting that the state propaganda machine has proven to be very adept at seeding and promoting certain ideas and trends; ideas and trends that take on a life of their own, once fully developed. At which point entities and individuals will often help further the state's agenda without ever being aware.

Some people believe this is a beautiful woman.
Some people believe this is a beautiful woman.
Some people believe this is a beautiful woman.
Some people believe this is a beautiful woman.

Which Beauty and Which Beast?

As far as off-topic comments are concerned, I am reminded of the idiom,"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder". It is a very slippery slope when we start to believe that we can so easily recognize and identify the perspective and motivation of a total stranger. For instance.I was recently accused by a commenter of being off topic, and of trying to hijack a thread in a Forum post entitled: "Senator Lugar Proposes NATO to Tap On Any Country Energy Resources? "

My initial comment included the fact that the United States has no legitimate resources to negotiate with; that all of the resources available to the United States on this continent are stolen resources.Consequently, for NATO and the U.S. to negotiate over any of these resources is the same as two thieves negotiating over a stolen car.

From the perspective of either a racist or an ignorant person who has subscribed to a Eurocentric view of history, perhaps this may seem off topic. But from the perspective of an educated person who is not a racist.and who is of both European and Indigenous descent, this comment is right on topic; my motivation being to educate and bring people together, rather than to sow discord and to disrupt.

The European Colonialists stole this continent just like the British and Americans stole the island of Diego Garcia in more recent years. These are simply facts, and the fact that the truth might make some of us feel uncomfortable is no justification for censorship.Apparently, the truth spoils the Eurocentric illusion that America was a relatively empty wilderness that the Europeans "discovered" and then developed into a superpower, which is nothing but absolute nonsense! There were thriving civilizations upon this continent, and many nations that enjoyed peace, freedom, and prosperity, long before the European came to these shores.Only by facing the truth can we avoid repeating the ugliness of the past. How could anyone but a purveyor of evil , claim that this is not an honorable intention?

I have been called a fanatic and a provocateur. But I am not offended by them; these words plucked from a thorn bush and posted with malice. In fact, I am flattered.Martin Luther King Jr., John Brown,Nelson Mandela,Emma Goldman,Ida B.Wells,Goyathlay, Tatanka-Iyotanka, and a host of others, have been called fanatics and all sorts of ugly names, but I am in good company. In fact,I have adopted the moniker of "Provocateur", as a way of mocking those who have attempted to use their ignorance as a weapon against me; as a way to underscore their vain attempts to tame the truth. There is no shame in telling a blind man that the awful sound in his ears is the sound of a runaway train, and that he is now standing on the track! But how deep is the shame, and how great is the evil, when a man who has been gifted with sound and vision pretends not to see,and chooses to remain silent?

Other examples of Fascism

• The Patriot Act

• Banning of M.A.S in Arizona

• Laws designed to collect revenue ( the Seat Belt Law)

The Purpose of Fascism

The purpose of this soft Fascism should be obvious. But in order to avoid any confusion,I will spell it out: Manipulating the media, however gently and unobtrusively it may be done,is a means of exercising control. Most of us understand that repetition is key in the learning process ,as well as in athletics and bodybuilding.Repetition is also key in the manipulation of the mind, or what is commonly referred to as brainwashing.By gently encouraging the online writing community to produce "neutral" content that doesn't challenge the Status Quo, writers become less focused on more serious issues and more accustomed to writing "fluff"; producing what I refer to as "disposable content".

The process is so subtle and "soft" that over time a writer will not even be aware that he /she has been manipulated. In this way, the state can effectively neutralize millions of writers and content providers who might otherwise be quick to raise public awareness, expose government corruption, or challenge the tyranny of the state.

I have not posted this article for the benefit of those who happily choose to remain ignorant. For them,I do not see much hope. But I have posted this to encourage those writers who may feel intimidated. Here is my advice: Do not let the small minded stand in the way of your truth. They will try to spin every word that you say,but when they do ,they will only reveal their foolishness in the light of your own superiority.A man who speaks with heart, knowledge, and purpose,is far superior to the puppet who only parrots the lie of his own oppressor.Do not be afraid to be unpopular, because there are many who do not want to hear the truth; they do not want to be reminded that there is much work yet to be done.It is your words and your actions that can save the world.Anyone who tells you differently is either a liar or a fool, and I have found that these traits are not mutually exclusive.

This is a music video I produced which contains an original piano composition along with a poem I wrote. The video ties together the American Holocaust with the Jewish Holocaust.100 million vs 6 million.Although both estimates have been hotly debated by racist revisionists and some moderates,to argue whether either estimate is "spot on" is simply ridiculous. Human beings needlessly died in both cases, and that is all we really need to know.

If the number was only 1 to 1; just one Indigenous person murdered and just one Jewish person murdered, during the entire span of 500 years, that would be just two too many! If the reader should find this sentiment to be unrealistic, or exaggerated, then I suggest that I am either more human than human,or the reader is something less than what they thought themselves to be.Osiyo!

Wrenchbiscuit! I hope you don't think I was offended at all by your words! That was just my own introspect - and it is great that you evoke thoughtfulness in people. I think your expressions are honest and very well expressed.. that makes them all the more poignant. I am a big fan of your writing! You did not seem arrogant or self-righteous. I just think you have conviction, and that is rarely found in every day life (at least mine)! Thanks again for your enlightening hub!

      Amie Whatcha Gonna Do?

One must be careful when making sweeping accusations with harsh words; such as "ignorant". This can easily make one appear to be arrogant and self-righteous.But that is not who I am.I am a leading authority on ignorance, because a mountain of mystery stands before me now; one that I cannot fathom, nor could I ever explain.

If what I have written has made you feel ignorant ,then this is a good thing, because your new discovery has led to a new understanding ; for both of us.Because of your confession, I have retraced my steps and realized that I must improve my writing skills.I believe I used the word "ignorant" twice throughout this article. The second time around was a missed opportunity to more clearly define my meaning.I changed it to read as follows in parentheses:

"I have not posted this article for the benefit of those who ( happily choose to remain ignorant)."

This is better because it helps to clarify my earlier usage of the word, and hopefully will allow me to appear less self-important.Thanks for the feedback!

Wrenchbisuit, you make me want to come out of my small world and pay more attention to things! I am afraid, I am one of the ignorant, but only because as you get older and have kids, your world becomes a bit of a hole if you're not careful. Very compelling hub, as always. I learned a lot here. Well expressed.

Ick! The hive. Or germs...hard to kill, and when find cure, they find new resistance.

All I know is, there is no rhyme or reason to human behavior, and its sick.

What, in their right mind would create that?

And you attract what you put out.

I actually went through several copies of that album; never did learn how to take care of vinyl.I watched the Credo video several years ago. It was fascinating. It does make you wonder: On one hand I think there must be an awesome intelligence lurking somewhere behind the matrix.

On the other hand I sometimes think we might be dealing with a mindless macro-virus; an organism indigenous to the planet that has a natural symbiotic relationship with humans .A virus which adversely affects the brain and human behavior while feeding on human energy; similar to what Icke describes, but with no agenda other than to feed and to reproduce.

Read the 14 characteristics of fascism......we got em! (Or had them last admn....)(and certainly the tea party!) imo only.

As far as reptilians, Icke isn't the only one. I watched his friend Credo Mutwas videos, who says his people have always known about them. Calls them Chitauri, or something.

And theres Phil Shneider, who said he got into fight with them in a deep underground military base(dumb).

And given the fact that we know probly less than 1% of what goes on.....who is to deny it?

Then, of course, the stories of prez Truman making some sort of deal w other beings.....and people saying if you have military goggles, you can watch et battles in the sky!

Who knows? I find it fascinating.

And, I agree w you about bankers......but the big problem is we who go along w them....I think you already said that.

That's why poverty is so necessary......they need those recruits!

And I JUST was listening to Doors music, since your title reminded me of Soft Parade, and one of the lyrics of a song was,

"They have the guns, but we have the numbers" the bus boycotts of the 50s(60s)

And like you said-- stop feeding it, and the system collapses.

But wow--just look how much they have us!!

Look how tied in we are.......god, its really ingenious

This is well thought out and clear as to what you mean. Banning and censorship are the tools of the fearful. I think the name you put on it is appropriate and I think we have to be very mindful of it.

Russell, Fascism started as a reaction to liberalism and there is certainly a strong move towards the conservative positions in parts of America.

Another consideration is Mussolini's definition of fascism as corporatism, believing fascism was when state and corporate power merged. All wedtern democracies currently have a creeping union between corporate and state power.

While I think it is perhaps a little strong to be calling it fascism I certainly see a seepage of fascist ideas across the western political arena.

John Lennon was the best.A great artist and humanitarian. He truly did change the world. As for the others, I agree. It's all gone backwards since then. Here in Florida they have a "Stand Your Ground" law that gives you the legal right to kill another human being.Yet,there is no law making it mandatory for public schools to teach ethics and morality.

I'm not necessarily talking religion ,but I'm talking about a morality that transcends any one particular group. For instance, who can disagree with the concepts of loving your neighbor, and treating others as you would like to be treated? Isn't that a universal morality? How can the teaching of such a morality be any more offensive than the violence and the murder that exists today without it?

I believe your last statement to be rhetorical, since it is well known that Woodrow Wilson defined "they" as the bankers to whom he unwittingly sold out the nation; today being known as The Federal Reserve. This is why I am so amused by those who adamantly defend this system of war, violence, and poverty.Almost 100 years ago an American president admitted that the nation was lost, and people still don't get it.But to drill down even further,David Icke would have us believe that there is an alien Reptilian agenda behind it all.Based on the heartlessness, the callousness, and the indifference to human life I have seen demonstrated throughout the world,I'm inclined to believe that there might be some truth to what he has been saying.

"Resorting to violence is playing the systems game. Because once they've got you violent, then they know how to handle you."

      --John Lennon

And I agree this is not the same country. Once they killed jfk, rfk, mlk, malcolm was all over.

Quite enough for me that their lives were all ended by guns for me

to hate the sight of them.

I keep asking, wheres my right to be free from guns?

      It doesn't exist.

      So whos being tyrannized?

Its my view they want us to kill each other off--save them the trouble. Whos they?

      That's the question.

Thank you for stopping by.I appreciate your comment because it raises an important issue that I did not address in my Hub.Although the historical record confirms your statement to a great degree,I do not believe it is within the realm of human understanding and capability to accurately prescribe or assign a particular motivation, philosophy,or "ism" to any one group. It has been proven many times over how power and money can corrupt even those who have initially started out with the best intentions.

Frankly,I am not impressed with the left or the right. Both camps are facilitating this movement toward a fascist state, either directly ,as in the case of Arizona banning books they have declared to be subversive and inflammatory,or indirectly through the pursuit of the almighty dollar; expressing a liberal agenda while facilitating and perpetuating a Capitalist system that can only exist upon the backs of the poor and the blood of innocents.

The recent attacks against me in the Forum indicates that you are probably right in your assessment of this particular venue. However,as a professional guitarist,I have at times found my self standing in front of an audience wondering where my guitar pick went! In many such cases, I have been able to use a quarter or even a nickel as a substitute to get through the show.

This is not the country I grew up in.Things have gotten worse instead of better. We have less freedom now than we did in the late sixties.Something has to be done, and I believe that we should use every non-violent means at our disposal, even if it's awkward or cumbersome; even if it hurts.

Not to draw the matter further into the light, but you are aware that fascism is born of elements from extreme right-wing perspectives, correct? Dominion arises from extreme conservatism and fundamentalism, not liberalism.

In any event, it's likely that the unpopularity of such a message in a venue designed to be far less inflammatory and politically charged would be welcome.

      Wish you all the best,

Thank you for your words of encouragement.I am by no means a saint, but I am tired of watching the misery of the world and pretending that we can do nothing to stop it.It will only continue if we allow it to continue.Instead of throwing stones at each other like dumb brutes ,we should be aiming them in the right direction.Obviously, you understand.

As soon as I read your comments in the forums, I thought, "uh oh.....hes going to be banned soon."

Not for any real reason, but because your views are unpopular.

      Happens a lot around here.....

and lets not forget the 30 million killed by Stalin and his Bolsheviks--imagine, leaving Europe for America to escape him, only to be met

with powerful robber barons who earned their wealth thru him!

      (Koch brothers)

I for one love to hear voices like yours, who speak truth to power.

unfortunately, I foresee your voice banished to the Underground......but you will not be alone!
