Reclaim American Jobs - American Choices - American Voices

Updated on March 13, 2016

American Choices is about American Voices. Who are we - what are our values? What do we want our values to be?

It is not a political commentary, it is about information. Providing information to make better choices.

It is not just about exposing the truth, it is connecting the dots and showcasing why what we purchase is important to our very lifestyle.

Can we still buy American items and provide American jobs for our neighbors and our family members? Most certainly yes.

Can we have an impact upon the world, most certainly yes.

Does one person's opinion count - most definitely yes! Changing the world through broadening our understanding is what American Choices is all about.

American Choices is simply information - you are the voice. The American voice remains the strongest in the world. Sadly we have have been quiet. The economic crisis, the world balance of power changing demands a new communication, a new voice. This Hub Page is simply a starting point for providing information.

It is meant as a bridge, not a divide. Supporting America, helps the world. The brain that will attack the United States has already started. The Internet is the vehicle to share the best and the brightest - to share knowledge, to bring us all together.

Buying American is not an attack on other countries, it is a standard of living that is needed by all countries. Every country must support its homeland first and foremost. You cannot help another IF you are not healthy. America must return to health in order to continue to help others.

As partners, we recognize the value of our US distributors and give them credit as 4 Stars but we need full disclosure and the choices to select the 5 Stars - those who are both manufacturing and distributing and headquartering here in the United States.

American Made and American Taxes

We are all dismayed at the lack of products being made in the United States, yet there is a bigger concern we have let go by us. Large companies - mega globals - the companies that dominate the world have left the United States not just in their jobs but in their tax dollars. Why is this so critical - because those remaining must now pay more in taxes. This is not just a tiny shift in our corporate tax world, this is a shift that will change the future of our children's lives. Less money, less jobs, more taxes - is this the future we wish to leave for our children?

I am an American who loves his country. I am an American who is proud of the work of our founding fathers. I am an American who is of a diverse background including English, Irish, German and Morrocan. I am an American who knows the power is within us Americans.

I love all religions. I love all my brothers and sisters across the world. My world has been shattered with unemployment and foreclosures in our American cities.

I seek change, not through government but through consumer empowerment.

I seek to educate others on the power of the dollar that they hold - it is the key to the jobs here in America.

Strong and Free - Free to Create Jobs

Shopping locally supports our local businesses but it also supports our local taxes. The taxes that are levied are from services from your city Police, Fire, Park District and utility. Your water rates will be higher if your local economy is shaken. The General Fund of the city supports administratively the utility fund - the water and sewer and rubbish services that the city or village provides to your home.

If your rubbish bill goes up often you can trace it back to the local economy. Yes, the fees may have gone up but if your local economy is growing the General Fund of the city coffers are healthy, often there is less financial strain placed upon your individual utility bills.

Remember, your utility bill as a home owner has no tax consequences- it is a straight payment directly affecting your discretionary spending.

Illinois Verses Wisconsin Local Tax Dollars and Local Jobs

In Wisconsin, there are no local sales taxes with the exception of the Wisconsin Dells and one other unique area of commerce. As of this writing, Lake Geneva was seeking State authority for local taxes. Illinois, on the other hand has encouraged local taxes and provided leglislative power under the Home Rule powers. If a community is large enough in population and if a vote by its citizens approved by its citizens, there can be established a sales tax that is returned to the local city treasury.

These differences showcase the importance of consumer's activities. While Wisconsin has no local tax, the communities where commerce occurs such as Lake Geneva offers more employment opportunities. Albeit some of the employment opportunities are nominal in pay because of the heavy reliance upon hotels and retails which have taken bottom rung of the pay hierarchy in our society.

“I've always believed the greater danger is not aiming too high, but too low, settling for a bogey rather than shooting for an eagle”

— Peter Scott

Quotes by John F. Kennedy

"But whatever we have learned about the art of talkmanship, we should have learned that we cannot talk ourselves either into or out of serious economic problems. There has been too much talk in recent months about how healthy our economy is - too much talk, and not enough action to correct the sore spots which still hamper our progress. Neither undue pessimism nor undue optimism will meet the grocery bills of the unemployed workers."

"What we need to correct this trend is neither glowing words nor despair but action."

Senator John F. Kennedy

"A nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood in an open market is a nation that is afraid of its people."
President John F. Kennedy

Geography has made us neighbors. History has made us friends. Economics has made us partners, and necessity has made us allies. Those whom God has so joined together, let no man put asunder.
John F. Kennedy

When written in Chinese, the word "crisis" is composed of two characters. One represents danger and the other represents opportunity.
John F. Kennedy

We have an opportunity to bring jobs to America. It rests with a thorough review of our values and a knowledge of where products are produced.

Eagle - What it Means in Golf and Our Daily Lives

A bogey in golf is one over par, an eagle in golf:

"Eagles are most commonly made on par-5s, holes on which some golfers who hit the ball far can reach the green in two strokes, then make the putt.

Eagles on par-4 holes are much rarer because they require either driving the green and 1-putting, or holing out an approach shot from the fairway. And, as noted, an eagle on a par-3 is a hole-in-one (nobody ever calls those eagles, however - why would you call it an eagle when you can call it a hole-in-one instead?)."

Information for Consumer Choices

I like your wise statement - "unions have a time and place". Protecting our workers could have only been achieved during the industrial era in the United States with the powerful influence of unions.

I like your sentiments, they echo the triple bottom line movement that keeps mega giants, global corporations who are larger than entire countries in check.

If everyone were appreciative and generous to those less fortunate, we would not have wars and poverty. Someday, I pray John Lennon's song of Give Peace a Chance and my all time favorite "Imagine" will come to frutition.

I beleive the internet is made to connect, across the countries, across the oceans, from one language to another and from one skin color to another. If we recognize we all share the same insecurities and fears, we all share goals and aspirations for ourselves and our families, we will create a better world.

Recognizing the value of the price tag of expensive goods and why they cost so much is something we must promote to garner a new understanding and consumer perspective.

Investing in something American made is a trend I hope continues.

Yet, I also hope other global citizens take notice of the need to protect not via laws but through consumer activism. The consumer remains the strongest army in the world. Hopefully that army can be focused to do good for all.

This is a great post. :) I agree with you on reclaiming our jobs here. I, too, come from a diverse background, and while we need to live within our means, we can't bring back those jobs if we don't invest in American made.

Unions have a time and place. And I think that workers are willing to make the concessions to bring back the jobs, but also I think we need the corporations to make some also. Americans cannot live on $10/day as they can get away with in Mexico, or $10/wk in El Salvador...

And we must remember, that as Americans, we can be the most generous, as when we prosper, we share in helping others.

      James A Watkins,

The Unions have been managed by management, the health care has been managed by management.

Management and the American consumer, I believe need to stop the finger pointing.

Many workers have made concessions, many more need to make concessions to return the jobs to this soil.

Did the foreign supplies hit us over night - no, and so too, with the solutions. We must remain diligent and keep our focus on the goal of truly being competitive on a global market.

Very good! If we got rid of labor unions tomorrow AND got the country on a buy American kick we could revive the nation quickly. It would be like a miracle. Americans will not pay $200 for a toaster made by union workers putting in 4 hours of work for 8 hours wages and making $75 an hour with benefits, when they can buy a toaster made of metal and parts shipped at great cost all the way to China, made into a toaster and shipped at great expense all the way back here for $30. But Americans WOULD pay $50 for American made. If we can make them for that. And we can.
