Baby-boomers: We Need Your Help!
As a member of the Lost Generation (Gen. X), I have a message for Baby-boomers: “We need your help.” I know the generational divide is nothing new. It happens between all generations. Change comes with time, whether we like it, or not. Some embrace change and some resist it.
At this point, resisting change is highly detrimental. If we prolong the changes which need to be taken, we will have greater problems in the future. No, we cannot have patience anymore. We are running out of time.
Food shortages in Africa. Floods and fires in Australia. Wars all over the Middle East. Crime, corruption and despair all over Latin America. Divisions and distrust in Europe. Meanwhile in North America some people are still dreaming of bringing back the 1950s.
I am literally shaking my head. No. We are not going back. If that was possible, I am sure the Natives of the Americas would go back to the 1100s, when the Europeans did not invade their lands yet. Sigh … we focus on ourselves so much; even when our well-being means the desolation of other people’s lands and/or even the death of others.
Who cares if people drown in the Mediterranean Sea, as long as they do not cross into Europe? We cannot risk our European tribes to be diluted by people from other tribes. So, let them drown in the Sea. Or, let Latin Americans die in the dessert trying to cross into the United States. Why don’t they just die in their own country? We don’t need the mess here.
Another "sigh" … we have to learn that we are One people, on this One planet. Nobody is better and nobody is worse. The value of humans is not in their culture, or their skin colour. The value is Life itself.
So, to keep this short and to the point: Baby-boomers, please listen to Millennials and to Gen. Z. I am not talking about us, Gen X. because we are already known as “the lost generation”. We now have to work and salvage what remains from floods and ashes and build for the future on ideas of the younger ones. The world is theirs. And I know, we (Baby-boomers and Gen X.) are not going to die tomorrow but it is not us who have a life ahead of them. So, let us build on the dreams of the younger ones. Let’s help them. Let’s show support to them while letting go of some of our predated ideas. Holding on to an old image of the world ‘till our death-bed is not helpful. We will be in that case remembered as a pain in the You know where. Just let go of the past. Please. Thank You.
