People can judge and assess one another in the blink of an eye

A picture’s worth a thousand words,

Or so it’s said to be

Yet many come with captions

That tell us what to see

They offer explanations

Of scenes that may be new

Or illustrate a context

Or postulate a view

They sometimes apply labels

And sometimes give us names

They might be strong or neutral

Or may be used for games

We take the pictures daily

With eyes, not camera lens

The captions from within us

Applied to foes and friends

How hard, sometimes, to view them

With equanimity

And use our hearts for vision

That we may truly see
