Censorship In The Christian Arena

Updated on February 10, 2013

The topic of this post is censorship especially in online formats and especially by christian forums. I don't want to seem like I'm beating up on christians because I'm not. In this instance it just happens to be that the majority of censorship I encountered was on christian message boards. It really all boils down to not listening and not having respect for another person's viewpoint whether you agree with it or not.

I hate and despise censorship in any way, shape or fashion. Especially in an online format. Over the years I've encountered many websites but none worse than christian websites. They are absolutely, hands down, the worst when it comes to trying to control people's thoughts, ideas and opinions. If they had their way you'd be stoned for expressing an opinion contradictory to their own. Don't get me wrong I'm a christian but I don't believe in that heavy handed, lead iron control that says another person has the right to control what I or any one else has to say even if they don't agree with it. That's what our country was built on. Many different ideas and opinions.

Of course it's not just in online formats. These same people go to church, work, can be your neighbors, in your family or in any other enviroment where you may come in contact with them.

They believe there is only one correct opinion and it is theirs and if you dare to disagree with them you will be told you are not a christian, you are going to Hell because you are stating an opinion contradictory to God's, if you are a christian you are not a good one, you need to get right with God and a whole host of other not so nice words they can find for you plus trying to turn everyone else against you until you fall into their line of thinking and then and only them will you be allowed back into the fold. Once you've fallen into line you will be praised with many Hallelujah's and Amen's for finally seeing the err of your ways. I've encountered this offline too. People that are offline are online as well.

I can't express enough how much I hate and despise this kind of thinking and this kind of control. Everyone has a right to their opinions but no one has the right to tell me how I should talk, act, feel or express myself especially when it comes to something as simple as my own personal belief concerning God and the bible.

It should be about love, acceptance, peace, unity and most of all respect.

Sounds like the people that John F. Kennedy spoke about in his secret society speech. He stated that although he was a Catholic he would not allow the Church to influence or dictate his abiliity to make decisions as president of the United states. That doesn't mean he wasn't a christian.
