Who are Chelsea Clinton's In-laws, Ed Mezvinsky and Marjorie Margolies?
Who are Chelsea Clinton's in-laws? I have to confess, when I read about Chelsea Clinton's marriage a few years ago to Marc Mezvinsky I immediately wondered who the groom was and what his connections were. When I had read that he was an investment banker for Goldman Sacs my red warning flag rose even higher. But then, life went on and I forgot about it, until recently.
Recently, I read an article about Chelsea Clinton's father-in-law Edward “Ed” Mezvinsky. The article was so derogatory in nature that the very first thing I did was to google his name and check it out on “snopes”, not that I always believe everything that snopes says. However, in this instance, snopes verified everything that was in the article. Considering the fact that “snopes” tends to run liberal my misgivings were put aside and I took the information as fact.
Here are the facts:
Ed Mezvinsky was a congressman for two terms between the years of 1973 and 1977. He was a Democrat and represented Iowa in the first congressional district in the House of Representatives. He also was on the committee that ousted former president Richard M. Nixon vehemently calling him a crook and a disgrace. Maybe that is where he first met Hillary Clinton since she worked for the House Judiciary Committee, which was writing articles of impeachment against President Nixon. Hillary was subsequently fired from that job and refused a letter of recommendation. Edward Mezvinsky met and married his wife Marjorie Margolies who was a news correspondent for NBC news, while he was still married after a brief affair. They would get divorced later on down the road. Both Marjorie Margolies and Ed Mezvinsky were close friends with the Clintons for a long time. Marjorie won her bid to Congress in 1992. Marjorie Margolies even helped to get Clinton's controversial tax bill through by casting the deciding vote which many people believe cost her her re-election bid.
Ed Mezvinsky plead guilty in 2001 to bank fraud, mail fraud and wire fraud after he bilked investors out of 10 million dollars. He was even involved in a Nigerian email scheme. He used his relationship with the Clintons to defraud his victims and even used his son, Marc's, bank account to keep bank transfers hidden. He went to prison in 2003 and served less than 80 months in prison. He was released in April 2008 and was on probation until 2011. He still owes 9.4 million to his victims, one of which is his former 86 year old mother in law! Marjorie Mezvinsky and Edward Mezvinsky divorced in 2007, both filed for bankruptcy and she was named in several lawsuits. Very little of the money has been returned and even their 15 room mansion was supposedly owned by someone else.
Marjorie Mezvinsky was never charged with anything and claims that she was too ignorant of the family finances to be held responsible for them. A claim that would later come back to bite her when she ran for public office in Pennsylvania that would have given her responsibility over a $2 trillion dollar budget. It's no surprise that she lost the election to her pro-life and vastly under-funded opponent.
She is the founder and president of the nonprofit organization “Women's Campaign International” started in 1998. As it turns out even this endeavor is not without controversy. Marjorie has been criticized for taking an unusually large salary for a non-profit according to the Huffington Post (see link below). Women's Campaign International is funded mainly through government grants which is another word for taxpayer funds. Ostensibly it's purpose is to foster female leadership around the globe.
Recently Chelsea Clinton and her new husband Marc Mezvinsky purchased a 10 million dollar apartment in Manhattan. One wonders where they got the money for this purchase and even more importantly why none of this was ever mentioned in the mainstream or lamestream media?
