Chiquita Demands the Restoration of Veteran Benefits

Chiquita Cicada is Mad as Hell!

Good morning breakfastpoppers. Today is Monday, December 23, 2013. Congress has voted to slash pension benefits for your nation's veterans. You remember the veterans don't you. They are the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives to keep all of you safe. They served their country and returned home minus their limbs and their minds. In the face of their sacrifices Congress thought it prudent to slash their pension benefits.

This hideous Congressional deal was put together by Senate Committee Chairwoman Patty Murray and House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan. Military pensions would be cut by $6 billion over ten years. The budget is being touted as the first bi-partisan budget brought forth by a divided Congress in 27 years. Both parties agree that the deal was less than perfect. What is completely unacceptable is the part of the agreement that hurts our veterans.

Why Not Cut This?

Make Things Right!

Let me suggest that veteran's pension benefits be made whole again by asking Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D.Nev) to refuse to accept his subsidy for Obamacare. Senator Reid, who salary is $193,400 a year is proud to accept a federal subsidy for a health care plan purchased the Obamacare exchange. Members of Congress will receive subsidies that can amount to $11,378 per year. Harry Reid sees nothing wrong about accepting this money. As an aside let me point out that private citizens buying a plan in an Obamacare exchange can get a federal subsidy if their income is less than 400 percent of the federal poverty level.

Your members of Congress will get these subsidies. Your veteran's will receive pension checks that are substantially lower than they were promised and were getting. Tell me, what is just about this?

When I think about the amount of money your federal government wastes each year, I lose my mind. If all this insane spending was eliminated, your veteran's benefits could actually rise. Your U.S. Department of Agriculture made farm subsidy payments to 28, 613 dead farmers between 2011 and 2012. Dead farmers are receiving financial support from the government, but live veterans are being treated like garbage. One other tidbit to get you thinking and mad. It seems that your terrorist detainees in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba were chowing down on too much hummus. They were putting on weight and commanders responded by ordering treadmills to help the killers lose weight. They had to order another batch of treadmills because the original batch wasn't made by Muslims. I wish I was making this up, I really do.

`

Make It Right!

My dear human friends, it is time to hold your representatives, and I use that term with great trepidation, responsible for this insanity they call governing. Washington is just like the Old Wild West. No one is in charge of the territory and the bandits are running wild. Each and every one of you has to slap on a badge and do your part to get rid of the bad guys. Decisions are being made every day that are aimed at hurting a segment of the population one at a time. Many of these changes and regulations are coming straight from the White House. I agree it is hard to keep up with the nightmare, but you have to try.

May I suggest that you start with your veterans. They deserve much better than they are getting.

I'm Chiquita Cicada and I'm here to say

Congress and the administration should just go away!

Make some noise...Chiquita

      Good Morning drbj,

I believe that the hopelessly insane are those who voted for Obama the first time around. The criminally insane voted for him the second time. The idiots put idiots in office and then wonder what went wrong. I'm off to the Inn! Meet me there.

It's absolutely absurd, bp. They have reduced the pensions for our military and yet they pay subsidies to 28,000+ dead farmers? Are our representatives insane? Or is it us, for having voted for them in the first place? Hard to tell.

      Good Morning Tom,

Once every 17 years is more than enough. I don't know how you humans get up every morning to face all the bad news manufactured by this administration and this do nothing Congress. See you at the Inn.

      Good Morning Old Poolman,

You're right. There could be no other outcome. Who in their right mind would want to serve a country that disrespects them. Meet me at the Inn for a Christmas Eve drink!

      Chiquita,

I can understand why your species only comes around every 17 years. Avoiding this hive of corruption would be a pleasure.

If they keep this kind of crap going, they will soon have to re-institute the draft if we are to have any Military at all. When our own government treats the Miltary folks this poorly, why would anyone want to enlist?

      Dear Gawth,

I am not sure of the status now. I know they were going to close the exchanges during the sequester, but I believe they remained open anyway. In my view, this is just proof positive of this administration's indifference to the military. See you at the Inn. In fact, I am already there.

Adding insult to injury, they are thinking of (not sure if it is finalized or not) closing the Base Exchanges(BX) and Post Exchanges (PX). When I was married and in the Army my wife and I could not have fed our child without using the PX. There are a lot better ways to cut expenses Congress!

      Dear taxlarry,

Thankfully, the vets are making alot of noise. I hope it''s enough to make this right. If they manage to reverse it, it may be the only "right" move in a long time. See you at the Inn. I'm buying.

      Good Afternoon Frog Prince,

First they do the damage, then they scream foul. They are all phonies or I should say dangerous phonies. See you at the Inn.

Chiquita, you can't make enough noise to get the fools and jerks in Washington to get things right. Why not investigate why dead farmers get farm subsidies and dead people vote? It's too out of control.

All of the sudden our "supposed" representatives are alarmed at what this budget agreement costs this nation's veterans? How is that so? Does that mean that once again they passed a bill without reading the damned fine print. The House could have fixed it before it went to the Senate. The Senate, led by the Dems, wanted no part of fixing it. What does that say about the United States Senate? Both of these parties reek of corruption and self-centeredness. Time for a change in big ways.

      Good Morning Pino,

Nice job researching all the waste. There is so much of it that it would be a full-time job. I think it would be a very useful job and I would love to take it on. You would be great at this sort of thing. See you at the Inn and we'll talk about the good old days when waste meant a hammer that cost $200!

What a great idea! I believe you would be doing a public service by mapping this out. People have to be held responsible for their hideous actions. See you at the Inn. I'm buying!

POP: Isn't it a tragedy that we must reduce pension benefits for our military, yet we can save this program, just by limiting the budget for militay bands, which is over $325 billion per year. WHAT????? For marching bands? Yes, it is! Actually, the number is closer to $500 billion per year! So, if they reduced their budget by 10% of the $6 billion they need for pensions, the military pensions benefits would be safe. I think our country would be willing to "sacrifice" a parade or two for our military! I know I would. Now, I am off to the bar. See you there....

It's simple...veterans are the least likely to cause problems so they're the targets.

There are two America's...those inside the DC beltway, and all the rest of us. Those on the inside seem blissfully unaware of the rest of us until it's time to get reelected. Then they promise whatever we want to hear, get reelected, and go back to ignoring us.

Good morning Chiquita, your off and running early today.

This whole thing is just an insult to all of those who have sacrificed so much protecting this once great nation.

I have started a folder where I file lists of those who voted in favor of these insane bills. My memory is not what it used to be and by referring to my folder I will know exactly who not to vote for in the next election. Those who voted in favor of this bill should never, ever, get the vote of anyone who has served in the Military or is currently serving in the Military.

The Washington circus is still putting on a great show, but at the expense of those they are supposed to represent.
