Cindy McCain

Updated on September 17, 2008

The Real Cindy McCain

Not much is said in the media today about Cindy Hensley McCain, and what little that there is put out is usually negative and from dirt digging news reports. All that most people know about her is that she is the wife of Senator and Republican nominee John McCain and that she is the daughter of Jim Hensley, a wealthy Arizona businessman who made his fortune as a beer distributor.

This lens is here to let people know about the real Cindy McCain and what a remarkable woman she is.

Cindy McCain At The RNC

Cindy graduated from Southern Cal with and undergraduate degree in Education and a Master's in Special Education. While attending USC, not only was she a cheerleader, she also participated in pilot programs testing Movement Therapy which later became a standard for working with severely disabled children.

After graduation, she worked as a teacher at Agua Fria High School in Arizona as a special needs teacher working with children with downs syndrome.

Cindy founded a group of Arizona doctors and nurses that traveled to areas of the world to serve those who needed medical assistance. On one trip to Bangladesh, she found a baby that was living at an orphanage run by Mother Theresa. This child needed more medical care than the team could provide on the trip and it looked like the baby may not survive. Cindy took it upon herself to bundle up this orphan to bring home for adoption.

She called John from an airport to let him know that he was about to have another child. Their daughter Bridget is now a young adult and like the rest of the McCain children, she is kept away from the media for their privacy.

Halo Trust

Cindy is a member of the board of trustees for the organization Halo Trust. Their mission is to clear land mines from war torn regions and to provide clean water and food to those in need. She has traveled to many countries to see firsthand the success Halo has had in removing landmines.

Cindy McCain On A Halo Trip

Cindy is on the Board of Directors of CARE, USA which work to fight global poverty, especially for the women of the world. CARE works to help to equip the poor with the proper resources to help the women, their families, and entire communities to escape poverty. They work to improve basic education, prevent the spread of HIV, to increase access to clean water and sanitation, to expand economic opportunity and protect natural resources. Care also delivers emergency aid to survivors of war and natural disasters, and helps people rebuild their lives.

Cindy McCain has an adventurous spirit not only does she love to drive race cars(her company distributes NASCAR which was its official beer for years), she also knows how to fly a plane!

Cindy know that she was going to be doing a lot of flying as part of her husband's 1982 Congressional campaign, so she decided to attend a flight school to help her overcome her fear of flying. In doing so, she received flight training and earned her private certificate.

That was interesting that you trust Palin most of all. She does seem to be authentic, at least that is my view and she is a straight shooter.

Cindy McCain is an incredible woman. When I was watching Sarah Palin talk about John McCain, they camera was on Cindy and you could see the pride she felt for him shine from her eyes. To me, that speaks more words about the next president than anything else.

Thanks for sharing. I had noticed just from news articles and on tv that she had to be quite a bit younger than her hubby, and now I know that she indeed is.

I don't know much about her, but I did read some unsettling stuff about when she met John while he was with his first wife and something not too nice about handling that charity money! I always find out about the candidates wife, as she will be in the white house too!

Great Lens! I really didn't know much about Cindy McCain until the RNC this year. She's certainly lead quite the life, it's nice to see that despite her wealth, she a very down to earth person.

So good to see a lens about Cindy McCain. I recently heard the story about how the McCain's adopted their daughter Bridget. Too bad there aren't more people like Cindy. Squid Angel Blessed.
