Governor Greg Abbott Issues Corona Virus Pandemic Quarantine

Coronavirus Quarantine To Last 14 Days For New York Fliers

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott Thursday afternoon issued an executive order requiring quarantine for anyone flying into Texas from New York, according to Dallas NBC TV affiliate Channel 5. The quarantine order does not apply to people driving into Texas from New York.

Coronavirus Quarantine Requires Registration With Department Of Public Safety

Governor Abbott's order also requires anyone flying into Texas from New York to register with the Texas Department of Public Safety. They must then immediately quarantine themselves at home or in a hotel for 114 days or until they leave the state, which ever happens first.

Quaranatine Includes Fliers From New Orleans

Abbott further said the quarantine also applies to anyone flying in from New Orleans as well as the New York Tri-State area. Abbott, who had an extraordinary career as Texas Attorney General, before being elected governor, said, "During this period, a quarantined person shall not allow visitors into or out of the designated quarantine location, otheer than a physician or healthcare provider, and cannot visit any public spaces. "The New York Tri-State Area and the City of New Orleans have become major centers of this pandemic, and it is vital that we take necessary precautions to prevent additional exposure that could originate from people traveling from these areas to Texas."

Criminal Penalties For Violations Of Coronavirus Quarantine

Abbott is taking the coronavirus invasion seriously. He has directed the DPS to check up on quarantined people under this order. People discovered to have violated the order could face a $1,000 fine or 180 days in jail.

Coronavirus Quarantine In Line With CDC And White House

The 48th governor of the Lone Star State said this most recent executive order is intended to achieve goals set out by the Center For Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention and the White House. This is all part of the war the entire nation is waging against the COVID-19 virus.

Exceptions To Greg Abbott's Coronavirus Order

The governor's order to self-quarantine does not apply to certain situations. Exceptions include people traveling in connection with military service, emergency response, health response, or critical infrastructure functions as may be determined by the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM).

New York Fliers Must Fill Out Forms

Governor Abbott further said, "People flying in from the New York Tri-State area and New Orleans will have to fill out a form provided by DPS to identify where they will quarantine. This is to allow DPS troopers to conduct unannounced visits to the designated quarantine location so compliance may be verified.

Airport Officials Co-operate With Abbott's Coronavirus Order

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport officials in Austin told KVUE recently they are working with airlines to advise passengers of the new mandate. Air traffic controllers will notify the flight crew to make an announcement before anyone gets off the plane.

AUS will continue to prepare to comply with the mandate, beginnig Saturday," the airport said in a statement.

Austin is the capital of Texas. Governor Abbott resides in the Governor's Mansion there.

Greg Abbott Says Connecticut And New Jersey Fliers Included

Governor Abbott further said the Tri-State area includes New Jersey, New York and Connecticut. Also included is New Orleans, La.

Abbott further said, "This is using every possible strategy to reduce the spread. I am proud of Texans. I know it's difficult but I also know that each day we get closer to putting this behind us."

I think it's long past time for governors to stop acting individually and to have some sort of coordinated national policy. I admire your governor for taking tough action, but Texas does not exist in a vacuum and neither does California, where I reside.

      Great article.

I think that’s a great idea for you to write a novel. If you use Calcutta as the setting, I believe a lot of people in the United States will read it. Let me know how your novel goes.

Yes, it’s scary, but the governor had to do this.

The first cases to my city came from travelers from New York via the Dallas airport.

We’ve had 23 cases here in Wichita Falls, but they say it will be worse. I was born in San Francisco, so I am familiar with your area. Seems like everything grows in California. So beautiful out there. Stay safe. Blessings,

It is a scary time. California has been on lockdown quarantine now for 2 weeks and probably will for another 2 weeks. Graduations have been canceled and all church meetings or any other gathering. Here in the San Joaquin Valley, we have had 3 deaths already and some 50 confirmed cases. It could get worse.

      Blessings,

      Denise
